A Family in Pieces

She dropped Samson. “You dare go against your Alpha?” She threatened.

Lio retorted back. “I would never do such a thing, but as an Alpha of a membering pack of the Golden Gate Alliance I have to put the interests of my pack before anything else.” Lio explained.

Quickly he hung up the phone. Frustration filled Selena as she once again grabbed Samson by his scruff. “HOW DID YOU GET FREE?!!?” She roared at him, her fangs slowly growing.

Samson stared back at her with a smile. “Wouldn’t you love to know?” He replied.

With a rage-filled heave, she tossed him outside the office. “Never set foot in this room again, otherwise Lycan or not, I will kill you!” Her bloodlust filled the entire room.

Once again, something snapped in Samson as a coldness settled in his heart. He looked down, glaring at her from the top of eyes. “Many have failed to do that,” Samson pushed himself off the ground and turned to face the hallway, giving Selena one last glare, “Do you really think you’ll be the one to bring me down?” He finished.

Selena returned the gaze, “Anytime… anywhere…” She moved to close the door.

Samson smiled, looking to the roof. “You really are a special one!” He said as a wave of warm goosebumps washed over him.

She watched as something about Samson kept her gaze on him. “Disgusting…” She murmured as she slammed the door shut.

With nothing else to do Samson made his way downstairs, deciding now would be the best time to explore the house. He moved through the hallway, now noticing it had three doors in it leading to what seemed to be multi-purpose rooms. He continued walking until he reached the staircase and decided to go down.

Back on the first floor, Samson moved around the house as life slowly filled it. As he entered the living room he saw Selena's father sitting on the couch, drinking blood-red coffee. He was wearing a simple collared t-shirt and beige pants as he flipped through the news on his tablet.

“Quite the instincts you have,” He said keeping his gaze on the tablet, “Lio tends to keep his bloodlust low even when he’s about to kill someone, and for you to pick it out… impressive.”

Samson made his way to the couch and sat down across from him. “You get used to it after killing so many, you can pick up even the faintest trace of it.” Samson explained.

Selena’s father smirked. “Not what I’d expect a ruthless killing machine to say.” He looked at Samson.

Samson smiled. “And you’re living life too easy for a man who was once feared as ‘The Reaper’.” Samson responded.

A silence settled between the two as they studied each other. After a few moments Selena’s father pushed himself up and started making way towards the front door. “I guess we’re all more than what others think of us to be.” He said before leaving.

After staring at the door Samson’s eyes fell to the phone that sat in the kitchen. He quickly moved to it and grabbed it, deciding it was a good time to report to Lycan.

Selena quickly paced to her chair and aggressively landed onto it, slamming her hands on the table.

“What do I do now…” She asked herself.

You do what you’ve always done, work hard, Penny’s voice resonated in Selena’s head.

“You’re right…” Selena murmured, trying to think of her next move but having Samson’s words replace her thoughts every time, sparking more anger.

Needing a way to let out the frustration, she picked up the phone and called her closest friend. “HALEY!” Selena shouted once she picked up.

“Yes Ma’am what can I do for you today?” Haley said jokingly from the otherside.

With a small smile Selena explained everything that had happened yesterday, the ups, the downs and the uglies.

“So what you’re telling me is you have a hot Alpha in your basement and you're not doing anything about it?” Haley rephrased.

“It’s not like that, he’s literally my worst enemy.” Selena brought her hand to her forehead.

“A little romance with the bad boy, a scandalous escape, taken to a foregin pack with no one to be with but your love!” The excitement kept building in her the more she continued.

Selena let out an exhausted sigh. “Haley…” She murmured.

The tone suddenly shifted. “I know… I heard it all from my sister… but it’s in times like these that you have to laugh it off, more stress won’t do you any good.” She advised.

“Listen,” Haley started, “The group is going out for lunch tomorrow, we might do something else too, join us, take a small breather and clear your mind.”

The idea sounded appealing to Selena, drawing her in but the thought of work and the dilemma she was in kept her from saying yes. “Maybe next time… I have a lot on my plate right now.” Selena said painfully.

“Alright, I’ll let you know next time we do something then.” Haley said before hanging the phone up.

A myriad of emotions washed over Selena as she curled into a ball on her chair, too paralyzed to even think of what to do next.

“Samson, how’s everything going?” Lycan’s raspy voice scratched Samson’s ear.

“Is it too late to cancel the contract?” Samson asked.

“That in over your head are you?” Lycan asked.

Samson scratched his head. “Not so much over my head, just there’s too many problems here.” Samson informed.

“Such as?” There was a danger in Lycan’s voice.

Samson took a deep breath. “Well, for starters the alliance is about to shatter just by me staying here, not to mention there's something else going on…” Samson was unsure of the last one but his strong intuition forced him to say it.

Lycan let out a sigh. “That’s going to be my pack eventually, sort out all the problems there before you get my girl, understand?” Lycan ordered.

Now Samson sighed. “That’s a tall order, I hope the pay is worth it.” Samson replied.

Lycan’s smile could be heard over the phone. “It is, trust me, remember you’re just playing a character, the character of me.” Lycan grumbled.

Samson nodded.

“And get it done in a week.” Lycan added the last part quickly before hanging up.

“Wai- Week?” Samson stuttered, “Hello?!”

Realizing there was no one else on the line Samson put the phone down, now stressing over the deadline. He made his way towards the basement before hearing aggressive voices coming from the smaller kitchen. He quietly made his way over there, eavesdropping on the conversation while hiding behind a wall.

“That’s not enough mom!!” Roared a male voice.

“But what you want to do is going too far!” Selena’s mom pleaded.

“Right now she has too many enemies, no one will be able to tell!” The male voice insisted.

“But your father will kill you!” Selena’s mom desperately tried to convince the man.

“Then I’ll make sure he doesn’t find out.” The man said.

Before Selena’s mother could have a chance to say anything he started walking towards the other entrance of the small kitchen. “I will kill Selena before the dust settles!” Samson heard the last phrase, sending a chill down his spine.

He quickly turned around to leave the kitchen but before he could he was caught. “Whatchu doing?” A high-pitched voice stopped him.

When Samson turned around, a boy no older than twelve was staring at him. He had messy black hair and curious hazel eyes. He wore black joggers and a tank top as he watched Samson.

Samson took a deep breath. “Don’t meddle in my affairs boy.” Samson responded as Lycan would.

The boy continued to stare at him and smiled. “What if I’m the reason why you’re outside the prison cell?” The gleam in the boy's eyes quickly danced to a mischievous one as Samson looked down on him and smiled.
