Another encounter.

Back in my pack, there was once a man we used to call old doe. We would call him that because that was almost all he spoke of. As children, I, Connell, and Darius along with others, would always go to where he always stayed and ask him for stories. Every time, he conceded.

As a little girl, I knew nothing of his personal story. It was not until I was older, long after he passed away that I understood. But as a little girl, every time I visited him more than several times a day, offering gifts or food. Every time he would graciously accept, but there was always a look he always had whenever he met me, no matter if it was once or several times a day.

I didn’t understand the slight furrow of brows, the hint of mist as he darted around my features. But as I grew older I did.

That was the same look that Leo gave me at the moment. It was one of forgetfulness.

It was the look one gave a stranger.

I willed myself to remain calm and unshaken.

“No.” I breathed out.

I couldn’t take it anymore.
