If Mike was looking to throw me off guard, he'd succeeded with the question he'd just asked. I stared into his furious eyes, immobile, dumbfounded, because Mike's words turn out to be one of the few gospel truths anyone has ever told me. 

I really was a hypocrite. 

"So? What have you got to say for yourself?!" Mike thundered while holding his hands open as if gesturing for a hug. "Why do you still want shit to do with me when you know I have killed people; when you know I can kill people, when you know I can kill you and—" 

"Knock it off, Mike! You would never do anything to hurt me!" 

"I have shot at you before, I could do it again. And this time, you might not be so lucky." He kept walking closer as he talked, so that by the time he finished speaking, he was standing right in front of me, with his jaw working like a clock.
