I gasped.
His words are like bombshells and I actually pinched myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.
D- Divorce?
“B- But…” I stammered, suddenly losing the ability to speak.
I don't understand his words.
Maybe I do, but I can't bring myself to digest them.
“I know, our contract is supposed to end in three months,” Raymond continued, his tone dry.
It's as if he couldn't wait to tell me this.
As if he has come right here after waking up to lift this load off his shoulder.
Did I do something wrong?
Did I fail in pleasing him?
Why does he want a divorce all of a sudden?
As I grappled with confusion, Raymond reached out and patted my hair.
It's as if he can read my mind. “You've done a good job. In fact, I'll double your pay. Get ready. We'll meet Grandpa later. Remember our initial plan.”
Our plan is to divorce after the contract ends.
I'll tell his grandfather that I can no longer be with him, and Raymond will happily release me.
No- I can't.
I grabbed his hands, almost instinctively as he's about to stand up.
Raymond stares at me, confusion swirling in his eyes for a second. And then, his expression relaxed.
“I've almost forgotten. You wanted to tell me something.”
I gulped.
He has just proposed a divorce.
How can I have the courage to tell him about my pregnancy?
Will his reaction be anger or disappointment? Or will he take back his words?
I gathered my resolve, not letting the devastation consume me.
Right now, I feel like breaking down. Just hearing the word ‘Divorce’ has my heart sinking in despair.
I can't live without him.
“Raymond, I'm-”
“Good morning, My Love.” Someone barged in, interrupting my words.
Sitting in a wheelchair, the lady entered my room, her face shining with a radiant smile.
It's not the way she addressed Raymond that astonishes me only.
It's the lady herself.
Cassie?
I can't believe my eyes. What's my sister doing here?
Why did she call him ‘My Love’ when-
“How did you get here?” Raymond seemed surprised as well.
His actions were gentle as he carefully held the back of Cassie’s wheelchair.
How did she end up in a wheelchair?
I'm not seeing things, am I?
My sister disappeared three years ago without a trace.
How can she suddenly appear in my home and address my husband as her love?
“The driver brought me,” Cassie answered his question all while staring at me. “I couldn't wait to see you, Ray. Have you told Blair about it?”
Raymond looked hesitant.
What's he supposed to tell me?
“It's okay, I'll do it.” Cassie smiled sweetly. “I've missed my sister anyway. And we have a lot of catch-ups to do.”
“Mm. I'll make breakfast,” Raymond replied.
“Please make my favorite.” Cassie leaned forward and pecked him on the lips, right before my eyes.
I staggered, already on my feet.
What's happening?
Seeing him behaving so intimately with my sister, my heart can't help but break into pieces.
I just hope it's not what I'm thinking.
“I can see all the questions in your eyes…” Cassie wheeled her chair forward after Raymond left the room.
Maintaining eye contact with me, her tone dripped with mockery as she scoffed. “I'll cut to the chase. Raymond married you because I asked him to. I wasn't ready to settle down yet when his grandfather threatened him with the CEO's position. Well now that I'm back, you may leave, Blair.”
Hearing Cassie's revelation, I can't hide my shock.
I shook my head, unable to believe it.
Cassie must be pulling my legs. She loves pranking me after all.
How can she and Raymond be in a relationship without me knowing?
“Oh, you're so naive.” Cassie chuckled. “You actually don't think Raymond will keep you forever, do you?”
But, why?
All these years, I've been thinking Raymond found me on his own.
I thought he proposed the contract marriage purposely.
I thought he had an inkling about my feelings that's why he chose me.
If I'd known that Cassie orchestrated all this, would I have agreed?
“You could have asked him to have a contract marriage with someone else.” Anger built up in my chest, my tone as cold as ice. “Why me? Cassie, you always knew that-”
“You love Ray, I know.” Cassie smiled. “How does it feel to have something valuable snatched from you? I wanted you to experience what it feels like to be with Ray, and then have you lose him. It does hurt, right?”
Right.
It hurt like hell!
Of all the afflictions Cassie has inflicted on me, this is the most painful.
She has known right from the start that I'm in love with Raymond.
How can she be so cruel?
“How can you be so stupid?” Cassie rolled her eyes. “You really think I'll let you have what you want? Remember how you snatched my mother from me.”
Her voice went a pitch higher, her eyes flashing with the same hate she has always had for me. “Raymond will do nothing with a filthy girl like you. Your fantasy ends here, Blair. Start packing up.”
I stood still.
The more I witness this side of my sister, the more confused I become.
How can she be so heartless?
Just because our Mum left her Dad and married my Dad, Cassie has been hating me ever since we first met.
Instead of being my big sister, she made my life hell.
During high school and college, she'd always gang up with her group of friends to bully me.
She hates me to the core, and along the line, I stopped trying to make things work.
“And oh, for your information.” Cassie paused as she turned the wheelchair towards the door. “Haven't you guessed who caused Uncle Greg's accident three years ago?”
Three years ago, my father was hit by a truck on his way back from the construction site.
He fell into a coma and the hospital requested a huge amount of money to keep him on life support.
Coincidentally, not long after that, Raymond approached me with the contract.
No way!
BLAIR’S POVWhat happened at the airport, Raymond thought I wouldn't find out. When I held Asher closer to myself before the plane took off, I perceived the smell of sweat on him even though the nanny sprayed him with her perfume. And when we arrived at our new home, I asked the nanny what had happened that stopped her from returning with Asher in time. She didn't want to tell me, but she later opened up and told me everything. Now it makes sense to me why Raymond was so eager for us to leave the city. His cousins are evil, they went after a little boy instead of going after Raymond. Those fools.Well, that is all in the past now. It’s been a month since we moved here already and I can say I love this city a lot.So far so good, it has been so peaceful for us.Raymond has started going to work, running three companies at once.I don't know how he does it, but he is hardworking.Asher has also started schooling and is doing so well in his academics. He talks a lot about his friends a
“Why aren't they back? Our flight will take off in the next thirty minutes.”I gestured to one of the maids sitting behind us toCome and she did. “Asher and his Nanny went to get ice cream ten minutes ago and they are not back. Go tell them to come in now.”She nodded her head and hurried off.“Asher and ice cream, you shouldn't have let them go.”Raymond sighed.Pfft.If I didn't let them go, Asher would have turned this place into a commotion by now.Whenever he wants something especially ice cream, just give it to him and you will have peace of mind.“They will come back now. I need to use the restroom, Ray.”I get up from the chair.“Do you want me to come with you?”He asked, but I declined.“Keep an eye on Asher when he returns.”If none of us are there to control him when he returns, he will start running around the place recklessly. It took me five minutes inside the restroom and when I returned to the waiting area, Asher and his Nanny weren't back yet.“Where is Asher?”I a
If not for Blair, we would have left the city by now.But she keeps giving the same reason and there is no way I would leave her behind.Even Asher wasn't having it good that I sold the company.“We agreed I would take over the company when I come of age, Daddy, why will you sell it because your cousins are back?”Sighs. How can I explain to Asher in a way that he can understand?“Daddy has three companies where we are moving to, you can choose among them, Asher.”He sniffled and cleaned his face.“Really?”“Yes, baby. You know Daddy can never break his promise.”Finally, Talking to Asher wasn't stressful at all, but Blair?HmmmA WEEK LATERBLAIR’S POVToday, we are moving to the city that Raymond has chosen for us to stay in.Not that I like it, but there is nothing I can do about it.My only worry now is my company, I know it would definitely fall apart as soon as I step out of this place. But Raymond doesn't want to understand my worries, he is only after his mind.Since there w
BLAIR’S POVI can't leave my company and house behind and run to another city to start a new life.Raymond has to have another thought about this, Selling the company and leaving isn't the way forward, he can deal with his cousins in any way. Why doesn't he report them to the cops and have them arrested? After all, what they did was a criminal offense. And if he can get a pregnant woman locked up in prison, then his brothers shouldn't be an exception.“Ray?”He lifted his head.“I can't leave this city.”“Why?”Can't he see the reason?Must I tell him?“My company and houses, I can't leave them behind. There is no one to take care of them while I am gone.”He sighed.“Blair, let's not argue over this, okay? Just do as I said.”Do as he said?He is my husband and he can give me rules to follow, But not this one.Doesn't he even think before saying that?He just wants me to abandon them which I can't.“I can't leave my properties, you should go alone.”I wanted to leave the room, b
Two months later, everything was going so smoothly until I received a few unexpected guests at the company. My cousins,What on earth brought them back to this city?Well, They don't look like they are here to plead for forgiveness,But they are here to make trouble. The three of them look so tattered as if they weren't the ones always bursting with nice expensive clothes they purchased each time they saw me.Now with just a look at them, one would know they are penniless.“What brought you here?”I asked after offering them a seat and a coffee. As usual, Desmond was the one who spoke.“We are here for more money, Raymond.”What money? The audacity.“Which money are you talking about?”They exchanged glances.“The share from this company.”Really?Hahahaha.The company that they sold a long time ago?Do they even have an idea how I was able to retrieve this company? What happened to all the money they left with?Billions of dollars.“Aren't you guys forgetting something?”“What is t
RAYMOND’S POVI was at the meeting when Asher’s message dropped on my phone. At first, I thought he was only testing out his new phone until I saw the content of the message.I had to excuse myself from the hall to clearly read what he had sent me. And my face turned dark the moment I read it.Who could have believed that Lilly was toying with my mind? She made me believe that the baby belongs to me when it is a lie.Lilly had just called upon herself a big trouble she can never get out of.How dare she?And to say she is conspiring with Kenneth, Emily’s husband. These two are going to face my wrath and I swear, nothing will make me go easy on them.“Round up the meeting, I have something important to attend to.”I tried calling Asher, but his line has been busy.He must be speaking on the phone with Blair. And oh, I need to get my documents from home to sort out things.Well, Blair can do that.If I go home now and then go to Lilly's place later, Kenneth would have gone and she will
