The sound of crickets and owls from the surrounding forest at night was as loud as the frogs croaking during rainy days. The moon was hidden behind the clouds, slowly blown by the wind. It was almost midnight, three hours since Zev put Layla to bed. It had been that long for him to endure the soft whimpers coming from her. She would yap and yip some time then suddenly grunt.
