Chapter 2

Author: Thick and Thicker
When the instructor called Matt over, he gave Aurora one more look before he had to leave reluctantly.

Aurora used this chance to ask me, "Wendy, I heard you and Matt went to high school together. Can I get his number?"

Another of our roommates rolled her eyes. "Everyone in class knows Matt is Wendy's boyfriend. You're asking her right to her face? Are you trying to steal him right in front of her?"

Aurora frowned a little as her eyes reddened. "That's not what I'm trying to say. I just heard Matt was the temporary class leader, so I wanted to..."

"I'll send it to you," I said.

Aurora's eyes lit up and she quickly took out her phone.

After I sent her his contact info, she smiled and took my arm. "Thank you, Wendy. You're so nice. We're good friends from now on."

The tickle in my nose made me uncomfortable, and I pulled my arm away on instinct.

Aurora was ready to act like she was hurt again, so I forced down my disgust and called out to Matt, who was walking up behind her. "Matt, let's all have lunch together!"

-

On the way to where we would have our lunch, Matt kept staring at Aurora. He was completely captivated by her, as he looked at the exposed skin that was as smooth as marble, together with that sweet fragrance on her.

I silently moved to the side.

Matt and I had gotten together after the SAT, and only three months had passed.

In my last life, I really was jealous of the attention he gave Aurora. But after living through it once, I finally understood that he was already rotten inside. He and Aurora pretty much deserved each other.

In the cafeteria, Matt got a call from our faculty advisor. After hanging up, he looked at me hesitantly. I knew what he was about to say.

Tomorrow, each class had to choose one representative to give a speech onstage.

In my last life, I had been chosen by the class advisor herself since I was the top scorer. However, Aurora had waited until I went onstage before quietly sobbing and hinting repeatedly that I had stolen her chance.

All the guys had gathered around to comfort her and no one bothered listening to my speech. Even Matt glared viciously at me. After it ended, he dragged me into a corner, and we had the worst fight since we had met.

From then on, no matter what event came up, Aurora became the obvious choice.

Even though I was the top scorer, the scholarships, awards, and even outstanding thesis honors all went to her. I had studied so hard to get into my dream university and my dream major. I never imagined I would lose everything to Aurora.

When I came back to myself, Matt was still trying to figure out how to bring it up.

I coughed. "My throat isn't feeling well lately. I think I'm catching a cold."

He immediately straightened his back and said, "Then you should rest. But there's a speech tomorrow, and the faculty advisor specifically asked for you..."

"I can't go. Let Aurora do it," I said.

Aurora looked delighted. "Really? Thank you!"

I smiled faintly. "Of course. We're best friends, after all. Speaking of which, your sunscreen works really well. Remember to put on more when the time comes. The podium gets a lot of sun."

Aurora's eyes flickered with thought, and she nodded hard. Matt sighed in relief. His eyes swept over me for a second, then turned to Aurora's face again.

-

At the first schoolwide event after freshman boot camp began, Aurora became famous overnight.

From the moment she stepped onto the podium, not one male student looked away from her.

I sat in the crowd, and mention of her name came from every direction.

"Aurora's sunscreen works so well... It's so hot today, and everyone else has gotten tanner, but she's the only one who still looks so fair! She can probably reflect the sunlight!"

"If she can make sunscreen herself, it means Aurora's family must be pretty well off. Is she rich too?"

"No wonder Matt says she's the school's beauty queen! She's perfect from all angles!"

After Aurora finished her speech, she bowed to everyone. The movement made her collar fall open, revealing her ample cleavage.

Last night, while the rest of us slept, she stayed up and modified the fragrance into perfume.

The speech event started at ten. Before then, she had applied sunscreen three times and sprayed half a bottle of perfume all over herself. Even the breeze carried her fragrance through the wind now, and all the guys near the podium were blushing.

Some of them were even reacting to that…

"I promise that as long as you help me, I'll marry you in the future. From now on, the Jackson family will take care of your family's business! Wendy, please!" Matt howled.Meanwhile, I slowly stepped back and gave him a faint smile. "Mr. Jackson, what are you afraid of? That fragrance only causes disfigurement after long-term heavy use and intimate contact. As long as you were never intimate with her, it will heal on its own after a while."Matt grew even more terrified and gasped silently. "No, Wendy! I made a mistake. My mind was clouded for that moment! You can't abandon me! Wendy!"I walked out of the ward as he roared behind me.Aurora was in the neighboring room. When I covered my mouth and nose and pushed open the door, I could see pus was still seeping through her bandages. The nurse taking care of her was in full protective gear, gagging as she wiped it away. "How can a young woman care so much about looking pretty that she has to use something like this? It was only ha

The students all gathered to watch. When the university's leaders all came out with dark expressions on their faces, Aurora's mother held her head high, as if she deserved the compensation. But one of the school leaders simply held up a medical report in front of everyone. "The hospital has finished with the investigation. Your daughter has used homemade sunscreen, and that sunscreen contained a fragrance that turned out to be toxic. She applied too much of it all over her body every day, and it caused large areas of her skin to rot over time."As for the other male students… Well, they were affected to various degrees because their skin came into contact with the sunscreen on her body."Aurora's parents' eyes widened in shock. Before they could react, the other parents grabbed them in fury. "So it was your daughter's sunscreen! You even brought us here to demand compensation! How shameless can you be?""Don't even think about running! Our children suffered so much pain! You'll pa

"Give me the salve! The one in the red bottle in your backpack!"I froze. In my last life, I had used the salve from that red bottle to cure Aurora. How did he know? His grip on my wrist tightened. He roared at me, almost as if he had gone mad. "Why didn't you warn me this time?!"That was it!Matt had been reborn too! But he had only returned at this exact moment!I looked at the rotten sores on his face, and my stomach churned. It took all my strength to push him away. I said, "I don't know what you're talking about!""No, you definitely know! Otherwise, this time… You wouldn't have... The salve! Just hurry up and give me the salve!"The sound of ambulances drew closer. Several medics in full protective gear came over and pulled him away, then asked me with concern. "Are you alright? We're taking them to quarantine at the CDC. Just in case, do you want to come with us too?"I shook my head. "I don't..."Matt cut me off as he struggled and shouted, "I'm not going to any quar

Matt froze mid-scratch. He and the other guys turned around at the same time, and they realized that other guys were rotting too!Even the instructor's eyes had gone red. He gritted his teeth while scratching desperately at the corners of his mouth and his arms!A girl from our class nudged me. "Wendy, you and Aurora are best friends, right? And Matt is your ex-boyfriend? You must know something, right?""Is it a disease or something else? We just started freshman year. We can't die here!""Exactly, Wendy. My boyfriend's hand is rotting too. If you know anything, you have to tell us!"I deliberately sighed. "Actually, I'm not sure either... But I thought something was wrong just now. It seems like all the men whose skin is decaying had contact with Aurora.""Young men who had been in contact with Aurora?""John Smith! Didn't you say you had no interest in Aurora? Then what's this?! You hooked up with another woman behind my back!"John, whose wrist and back of his hand were rot

Whispers came from every direction and the students in our marching formation turned around in confusion. Then they saw Aurora's eyes full of terror as she clawed frantically at her own face. "Ah! Why is my face so itchy? My whole body is so itchy. Matt, save me! Why am I bleeding so much? Help!"Matt's eyes widened in shock. He instinctively walked toward her, but Aurora's face, arms, and legs were all oozing pus and blood. Her skin that could be seen was all rotting! The whispers grew louder. He frowned in disgust, but then his whole body started itching too. When he looked down, he realized he was scratching his own arm violently, and he couldn't control himself at all.It was not just him. Several other guys in our group realized something was wrong too. The skin around their mouths and on their palms had all started to rot!"What is going on with this group? A few of the guys are rotting!""Aurora's face is completely rotten. What is that smell? It stinks!""No, I'm going

"Aurora, will you marry me?" Matt asked Aurora on his knee with the ring extended. "I promise, I'll only love you for the rest of my life!"Aurora trembled with excitement, and sweat seeped through her sunscreen, spreading the fragrance through the air. "Yes!"The whole place went silent.Soon, someone cheered. The others began clapping here and there, their faces full of reluctance. From the corner of my eye, I saw the instructor's face turn pale. There were clear traces of sunscreen on his neck too! This was going to be fun. After a long while, the instructor interrupted them. Probably because he could not stand watching anymore. "Have you chosen the lead for tomorrow's march for your group?""No need for that. Aurora is going to lead, obviously!" Once Matt said that, the other guys immediately agreed. Although they were all jealous that Aurora had accepted Matt's proposal, they were strangely united on this. The instructor nodded in acknowledgment. "Then come with me. I'll go
