Chapter Thirty One

A free chapter to thank you for hanging on ...

As they drove off, she instinctively knew he was angry and with the way he calmly led her to the car, they were not up for argument. But she ignored the frosty atmosphere, “why are you not asking me what I was doing there?” she asked him.

He glanced at her and continued driving, “seriously, are we doing the silent treatment now? Look, Max is my friend, practically the only one who talks to me at school and there was no way I couldn’t have answered him when he called.”

Zach’s hand tightened on the wheel, he really was not in the mood to banter words with her. Clearly, she didn’t know who Max was in this world, he couldn’t stop imagining the tense atmosphere when he stepped into Max’s office.

“I really think Max is innocent, why don’t you investigate properly before suing him, I mean, his company isn’t as big as yours and could easily crumble under your attack, I have lived with my step sisters and I have watched them do things that I later get accused for, so I understand how he must be feeling now.”

Zach suddenly swerved the car to the side of the road and stopped, turning, he glared at Aramina, “you know how it feels? Pray tell me, because I don’t understand. How can you compare Max to you?”

Aramina looked at him nervously, she could tell that he was really angry, his eyeballs were already red and his pupils were black, but then behind them, he could see the hurt twirling in his eyes and an unspoken accusation. “Mina,” Zach continued, “Max is not your regular werewolf. He is the leader of the shadows which means that he is more detailed and meticulous than you think, your friend? Ha!”  He scoffed, “Max is never friends with anyone he can’t use to attain a goal.

He suddenly sighed, “can we quit talking about Max, this situation is exactly what he wants us to do.”

“I am not a child, Zach, stop treating me like one” Aramina said.

Zach was frustrated, can’t she see that he was just trying to protect her from the cruelty of this world of his,

“then stop acting like one Mina, stop pushing me to the limits of shallowness. This world is not your usual black-and-white place, it has shades.”

Aramina was positively hurt, she couldn’t process the rest of what he was saying,

“What did you say?” she said swinging a hurt look at him, “I am acting like a child? Fine, I am, you who is so much of an adult, can you please act like one. Who goes after his own kind just because an employee sabotaged his master? Max has been nothing but nice to me and I won’t stand and watch you slander him or destroy his company.”

Zach looked at her, she couldn’t even do a thing even if she wanted to, but he was not ready to go there with her, his gaze was cold and far off,

“is that why you rushed off from the house the moment he called you to a club this late and as if it was not enough, you were in his private chambers” he threw the words at her even as he realized that it was quite unfair.
