Chapter 2

Author: No Coriander
More and more people gathered around, and he grew impatient. So, he ordered the bodyguards to throw me off the ship.

Just as I stepped onto the deck, steady footsteps sounded behind me. A gentle male voice followed.

“Chloe, why are you here? Why are you soaked?”

I clenched my teeth and looked at Lucas, the man who almost became my husband. Bitterness flooded my chest.

Could it be he still cared about me?

My body, drenched in icy seawater, warmed slightly at his words. I was just about to speak, but what Lucas said next hit me like a slap.

“You think making yourself look like this will get my attention? I feel sick just looking at you. I’ll make sure you understand the consequences of causing a scene at Hannah’s wedding!”

With that, he grabbed my neck and forced my upper body over the railing, leaving me suspended in midair. The suffocating pain spread through me, but I didn’t struggle. Dying like this didn’t seem so bad.

I closed my eyes, ready to accept death calmly, but Lucas was the one who lost his composure. Finally noticing something was wrong, he quickly pulled me back, shock filling his eyes.

“Why aren’t you struggling? Why aren’t you explaining yourself? Do you really want to die?”

If I explained, would he even believe me? I had explained myself too many times, and every time I did, he only drifted farther away from me and closer to Hannah.

A faint, lifeless smile appeared on my lips, and I said flatly, “I have nothing left now. I might as well just die.”

Lucas’s expression changed drastically. He grabbed my wrist tightly, and his eyes seemed to redden.

“You belong to me. You’re not allowed to die!”

After Lucas regained the use of his legs, his family was determined to find him a new match. However, because he refused to give in, he endured punishment from his family more times than anyone could count. When I found out, I ran to the Lindts and took the punishment in his place. As I was beaten half to death, Lucas held me tightly and, in fear, made me a promise. He said that without his permission, I was absolutely not allowed to die.

I didn’t think he’d remember that, but why did it matter now anyway?

Before I could respond, a defiant man rushed over. Finn White was my second target and also my best friend in this world. He looked at me like I was trash and flung a stack of photos into my face.

“Chloe, since you had the nerve to ruin Hannah’s wedding, I have no reason to spare you any dignity!”

In the photos, I was tied up and beaten. I was pinned down, ridden over, my clothes torn to shreds, and my body covered in humiliating words. Finn had taken all of those photos. He knew exactly how to pick the angles, and my face was captured with perfect clarity. He did this because I had once reported Hannah for cheating in a photography competition, and she was humiliated.

Amid the guests’ mocking laughter, Finn sneered and raised his camera, aiming it at my current, miserable state.

On the corner of the camera was engraved the words, “Finn loves Chloe.”

That camera was a gift from me.

Finn lost his mother when he was young, so his father often brought home a group of questionable friends, and their shared amusement was tormenting him. After I became friends with Finn, I tried to protect him from those people. In the process, I was beaten until I temporarily lost my sight.

To keep him from feeling guilty, I gave him that camera. I told him to take pictures of beautiful things so that I could see them when I recovered. After my eyesight returned, he continued the habit of taking photos. However, I realized later that more and more of the photos in his camera were of Hannah.

“If you don’t apologize to Hannah, I’ll upload these nude photos of yours online. I’d like to see how you’ll ever show yourself in public again!”

When I didn’t respond, his voice turned colder. He grabbed my arm roughly and yanked me up. I was dragged down and forced to my knees, a cry of pain escaping my lips.

Seeing this, Lucas tried to step forward to help me, but Finn stopped him.

The aftermath of the car accident left him with lingering complications. The pain was so severe that at times he wished he could simply die.Finn was locked inside that pitch-black basement by his father, holding tightly onto the camera I had once given him. With my departure, the fate of being beaten by his father and those so-called “friends” once again returned to him. Every single day, he lived in torment, but this time, there was no one left to stand in front of him.Leo’s company plummeted after losing my research. In order to keep it afloat, his parents turned their attention to him. They sent him to different male and female executives, trading him for funding to sustain the company. The once-proud Leo had fallen from grace. He woke up countless nights from nightmares, constantly calling out my name, desperately hoping that I would appear. As for Lucas, after I left, his legs quickly relapsed into paralysis. Even after consulting many famous doctors, he was told there was no

As Lucas saw that familiar face, his eyes widened in shock.“Zack!”The man standing beside Hannah was, in fact, Lucas’s older brother, Zack Lindt.“I’ve crashed Lucas’s car. Even if he didn’t die, he’s definitely crippled. Let’s see whether he’s lucky enough to survive. Honestly, dying would be too easy for him. Living as a useless cripple is far more painful!”“Don’t worry, it can’t be traced back to me. Even if they do investigate, someone else will take the blame. After all, that car I drove was a gift from Casey to Chloe.”Lucas’s fingers trembled as he opened an email he had received a few days ago. It contained a video of the car accident scene. In the footage, Hannah’s face was captured clearly. After she returned from abroad, she learned that Zack had been expelled from the Lindt family for angering the family patriarch. So, she shifted her target to Lucas, whom I had healed.Four pairs of furious eyes simultaneously locked onto Hannah. Her face turned deathly pale as sh

“Chloe would never do something like that. I can prove she wasn’t the one driving the car.”“I believe in Chloe, too. I won’t let her get hurt again.”System: [Host, both Casey and Finn’s affection level for you has reached 90%. Are you sure you don’t want to restart the mission?]“No. Are the remaining points enough to exchange for all the truth-revealing videos?”After receiving confirmation from the System, I immediately exchanged my points for the videos.Soon, Lucas and Leo both received the email. Curious, Leo clicked it open. The next second, all the color drained from his face.“This rear-end collision was crafted pretty cleverly. I heard Leo has fallen head over heels for you now. When are you planning to make your move? Don’t tell me you’ve actually fallen for that man?”Hannah leaned into the man’s arms, speaking in a soft, almost coy tone. “Of course not. The only person I love is you. Getting close to him this time is just to help you steal their company’s confident

After obtaining the video, I forwarded it directly to Finn’s phone. Even if I was about to die, I still wanted to clear my name.Finn glanced at his phone impatiently, asking, “What is this now? Are you trying to frame Hannah again? Don’t you get tired of faking this kind of stuff?”However, the moment he tapped on the video, his eyes widened. With his professional background, it didn’t take him long to realize that the video wasn’t fake. In the footage, I was shielding Finn as his father brutally beat him up. Meanwhile, Hannah stood beside his father’s new girlfriend.“Lydia, if you want to deal with Finn, you have to get rid of Chloe first. I have a way to make them completely fall out.”Hannah had hired a group of thugs to humiliate me, but when they went to grab someone, Finn had suddenly gone over to her side to deliver photo prints. That was how she ended up being taken by mistake. Finn stared at Hannah in shock, clearly unable to believe she could do something like that.

“No need.” I refused again.Even a cold, emotionless System could make an exception for me, but the men I gave my heart to? Not one of them believed me. If I had to keep giving for them, I would rather die.“I’ll expose her. I’ll make sure she knows what it means to lose everything.”Casey froze for a second. When he came back to himself, there was a pleading look in his eyes.“In this world, we only have each other. What good will it do you to drive her to death? Don’t be so selfish, okay?”“I’m not selfless enough to treat my mother’s killer like family.”Casey looked at me, confused, as he said, “Hannah may be an illegitimate daughter, but that’s not something she chose. Mom’s death has nothing to do with her. She’s innocent.”While he defended her, I directly sent a video file to his email. I had spent five hundred points to uncover the truth behind Lucas’s car accident. This video was an extra reward from the System. In the footage, a young Hannah stared at our mother, wh

Other than me and Casey, the only person who could have possibly driven that car was her.Hannah suppressed the resentment in her eyes, her body swaying as if she might collapse at any moment.“I don’t know why Casey would help Chloe lie,” she said, “but I’m willing to take the blame for her in his place. Lucas, let me make it up to you.”Then, without warning, she rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a fruit knife, and stabbed it hard into her own leg. Four figures flashed past my eyes as blood splattered everywhere. In their panic, Lucas and the others grabbed the blade with their bare hands.Hannah clutched their arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “How could you hurt yourselves because of me? As long as you’re all okay, I’ll do anything. My only wish is that you don’t hate me. Lucas, I really wasn’t the one driving that day. I don’t know why Chloe insists it was me.”Ignoring his own wounds, Lucas pulled her tightly into his arms, afraid she might do something reckless again.“Hannah,
