Chapter 67: Tell Tales

last update Last Updated: 2025-09-22 14:57:24

It has been three freaking days and I couldn’t get through with Dennise. I’m about to lose my mind and my wolf wasn’t helping at all.

“She’s gone. You have to accept it. You need to-”

“Shut the fuck up! Stop talking! Stop doing anything! Your fucking horniness isn’t helping. You’re not acting like a leader but a damn dog in heat!”

That made him shut up although he growled at me.

The phone in my hand was almost about to be crushed but I still tried to dial Dennise’s number.

The phone rang for the fifth time that night.

But still, no answer and always goes to voicemail.

I gritted my teeth, staring at the glowing screen as if I had the will to connect it to her. I was pacing, restless, snarling at every silence, at every dead second that dragged like a knife.

She was alive. I would have felt it if she wasn’t. That bond wasn’t gone, muted, yes, strained, faint like a candle almost smothered, but still there. And that made the silence even worse.

The sixth call. The seventh. Nothing.

  • To Rule the Tsar Alpha's Heart   Chapter 80: The sad song of Neglect

Hessa’s Point of View Ace has not looked at me in three days and now a week. He stands in rooms I enter and speaks around me as if I am a chair that has been moved too close to the fire, something to be tolerated, not touched. His commands pass over my head and land on others’ shoulders. His aura fills the hallways like winter wind, but none of it is for me. I reach for the bond the way a half-drowned thing reaches for air and feel only frost, a glittering, beautiful, merciless cold. Once, that bond felt like the sun. Now it bites. I whisper his name when I hear his footsteps, a little breath shaped like prayer, and the sound dies against his back as he walks past. He does not snarl. He does not soften. He simply does not stop. It would almost be easier if he raged. Rage is something I can take into my teeth and wrestle. Silence leaks into bone and makes a home there. I did this. I know I did. I put my jaws where his heart lives, and he has not forgiven the intention even if my

The corridors turned colder as we went deeper. Not the kind of cold that lives in air ducts, but the old cold kind of feelings that secrets buried where sunlight can’t make witnesses of anyone have been revealed one by one. As Valentina and I went through some skeptic corridor, the tiles started to lose their shine, the kind of nobody really come here so it was not.made specially like those first floor we have beenThe glass widened, mold made its way there. The doors felt ancient and heavy but Valentina effortlessly it with ease. Every checkpoint required Valentina’s hand, her iris and her voice. The lab tech with the tablet followed at a respectful distance, a shadow with a spreadsheet.“This wing is not on the maps,” Valentina said, conversational, as if discussing weather. “Even our own don’t all know it exists. I prefer collections to be… curated.”“Collections,” I echoed, because sometimes to keep a lie alive you have to feed it back the words it loves. We stepped through a f

Dennise's Point of viewValentina's words were like a rope around my neck. I nod because my face is the only part of me that can obey without betrayal. But every nod is a broken thing inside me. The boy’s hand slides down the glass, a human hand seeking bone, and the lab woman clicks something on her tablet. The monitor above the boy displays EKG lines that flutter in time with his sob. There’s a notation: sample #C17: adaptive gene expression, partial. Another line: neonate sample primer active.I feel sick in a way that is deeper than any of my killings before, colder than fear. A slow, terrible fury spreads through me. This is worse than hunting; this is creation. They are playing God now, they go against the value of nature. This is making weapons out of children and wrapping them in some science produced. “I thought you asked me to eliminate those who threatened your order,” I hear myself say. “Not to help you make more monsters.”Valentina tilts her head, arching an eyebrow lik

My knees feel suddenly out of strength the moment the doors slide open. The clinic smells of metal, but there’s another undercurrent to it, warm, wild, animal and copper. My throat tightens so hard I have to force air down into my lungs.Three figures lie under glass lamps, arranged in an operating bed. The first one makes my breath stop. He’s half-turned toward me, chained to a frame that gleams with silver. One side of him is still a boy, narrow shoulders, ribs visible under thin skin, hair matted with sweat. The other side is… everything I recognize from nightmares: fur bristling along a shoulder, a jaw that would snap and tear if the chain allowed it, an ear tipped in the wrong way. Tubes tunnel into his veins, wires attached into his temples. Machines beep with every breath he takes. He is mid-shift and suffering like a living thing buried under ice. Tears track clean paths down his cheeks. He looks straight at me.No one should ever look at you like that: full of pain, full of

Dennise's Point of ViewValentina’s words still rang in my ears when Maria arrived and served her breakfast and closed the study door behind me. “I’ll tour you later, " Valentina had said. “I’ll show the lab because I trust you. You will learn everything there. And since I can see your loyalty to us, to the Cross. You deserve to know confidential things.”The phrasing snagged at my mind. She had spoken not as if giving permission, but trusting me. Of course I do obey and. I would not disobey.“You will obey us, don’t you, Dennise?” She asked. “Yes of course, V,” I replied. “Perfect!”I swallowed hard. The terrifying part was that, in her presence, my body reacted before my thoughts. As if the strings she pulled were woven into my nerves. So when she said, “We’re leaving,” I didn’t hesitate. The car purred beneath her hands as we drove through the streets just the two of us. She sat behind the wheel with elegance, her profile sculpted and her eyes hidden behind a simple pair of da

Dennise point of ViewThe study smelled like polished wood and old books. Valentina sat in a spill of light at the great desk, hair an arrangement that made paintings jealous, the line of her mouth more delicate than anyone else. “…Make it ready,” she said, each word deliberate. Then, with a small flick of her wrist, she ended the call.Valentina sat behind her grand mahogany desk, her posture perfect, her blonde hair falling loose around her shoulders instead of pinned in one of her elaborate crowns. A faint glow from her laptop screen painted her features as she spoke into the camera. Her gaze lifted to me as she slipped her eyeglasses off. Without them, without the mask of red lipstick and sharp lines of makeup, she looked… young. Younger than me, perhaps. Smooth skin, eyes like glass polished with centuries of patience, lips full and bare. If she had walked down a crowded street like this, men would have fought to kneel at her feet.Yeah maybe, if she was human. But she’s not. Th
