CHAPTER 23: Hide and Seek

"Sir, you have an appointment with Mr. Cuerva this afternoon."

Because I was preoccupied with other things at the time, the words that were spoken to me by my secretary almost did not register in my head. As a result of my distraction, I was unable to hear what she had said.

"Excuse me, sir?"

This time, I was roused from my daydream by a gentle tap on my shoulder.

My thoughts had always been clear and organized when it came to my work, but after I met with Gabby, they became a complete mess.

I eventually made up my mind to do what I needed to do; I didn't believe I would be able to concentrate on work anyhow, so I told my assistant, "Cancel all my meetings for this afternoon."

"But sir..."

She gave the impression that she was going to protest, but she ceased doing so as soon as I gave her a stern gaze.

She apologized on her way out, and I am confident that she will carry out the instruction I gave her.
