Chapter 5: Rejection

You cannot go out with someone else when I have been waiting for you for 2 hours.” He seemed annoyed.

“It was your choice to stay because I already told you in the beginning; to leave.” I calmly replied back and then started shading the designs to give them a final and presentable touch.

“Bell, you’re being unfair towards me.” He stated with irritation but I didn’t care to respond.

Suddenly my chair was being pushed back to a corner and before I knew what was happening, he trapped me between him and the wall behind, along with the chair on which I was seated.

“Alexander, what the fuck do you want from me?” I was exasperated. He leaned in so close that his lips were inches away from mine and our breaths were mixing.

“I want you to quit that childish attitude of yours and behave more maturely.” And I scoffed.

“So now I’m behaving like a child and what about you?” And he looked at me with confusion.

“What about me?” He asked with uncertainty.

“When you left me 4 years ago, was it a very mature thing to do?” I spit out and his head dropped down.

“It was the most logical and right thing to do at that time. I already explained it to you then why do you keep bringing up the same thing every time?!” He pulled back and stood straight.

“Because what you thought was logical and right; had done a great deal of damage to me and you didn’t explain anything to me so don’t give me that bullshit,” I stated while glaring at him and he rubbed his face with a defeated sigh.

“I know I hurt you, I know…. But if you’ll give me a second chance, I promise you’ll never be disappointed again.” He spoke softly while looking down at me. His statement stirred something inside me.

“Alexander!” I called out softly and he leaned down towards me with a tender emotion in his eyes.

“Please, return to where you were hiding all these years because now……. I don’t need, want, desire and even love you!” I said, then stood up, crossed him and went to my desk to wrap up the work I had completed, collected my things and then left without looking back!

“So, who was that devilishly handsome guy in your office, who wanted to eat his lunch with you?” As soon as we placed our bums on the chairs, Saira teased me and I rolled my eyes at her.

“Don’t you dare start with me again. I’m already losing my temper because of that man.”

“Aah by the way, if you’re not interested then I can convince him for Elena. What do you think?” Saira suggested and I choked.

“Pardon?” I looked at her, flabbergasted.

“Yeah yeah. Elena had a crush on him so we can use this opportunity, play matchmaking and overcome your problem without any complications. So, what do you say?” She explained her idiotic idea to me while I was melting from anger, inside.

“I don’t have a say about it as I know very well how to solve my problems without involving a third person.” I spit out and she started laughing uncontrollably.

“I knew it! You’re still madly in love with Mr.Perfect.” And I palmed my face with frustration.

“Saira, don’t test my patience. I have already had enough of this Mr. Handsome, Perfect etc drama. Let’s order, eat and then leave for work because I have to finish another design today before taking my off.”

“Okay, okay. Don’t be offended!” She winked at me while suppressing her teasing smile. I glared at her and then picked up the menu to get over this lunch because I know that Saira will surely eat my ears out by teasing me about it from now on.

When we both arrived back at the office, Elena was nowhere to be found.

“Maybe she left earlier.” Saira suggested and I looked at her.

“What?” Saira asked me.

“Is today is your day of giving idiotic suggestions?!” I asked sarcastically and she glared at me but didn’t reply back. We both crossed the floor together and then Saira left in the direction of her office while I walked into mine, only to find Elena in it, chatting too much friendly with Alexander. The table was filled with different empty boxes, 2 empty plates and 2 empty wine glasses.

Alexander saw me first as Elena had her back at me, I cleared my throat loudly and she jumped in surprise, turned around abruptly then stood up.

“I... I’m sorry Ms.Isabella. I didn’t see you coming.” Her voice and eyes were lowered down in respect.

“Where should I come now if not in my office, Elena?” I asked sarcastically and she turned red from embarrassment.

“I insisted on staying and it’s her kindness that she stayed. We get along very well.” Alexander interjected and I clenched my jaw.

“Elena, you can leave now as I’m back.” I ordered her and she obeyed without any resistance.

After her departure, I turned towards him with blaring eyes.

“So now you’ll defend random women to get my attention, huh?”

“Excuse me!” He acted confused and that was the last stroke…

“ALEXANDER!” I yelled and he stood up, panicked at my outburst.

“Calm down. We are just talking. Why are you behaving like this?” He touched my shoulder but I jerked it away.

“Okay fine.” I took a deep breath to calm my raging nerves. “Go and fuck her brains out like you did it with me last night because it’s the second thing you’re good at!” And then I walked past him towards my seat.

“Isabella.” He called and I stopped in my tracks.

“I came here to talk to you, to ask for your forgiveness, to tell you how much I loved you, to make you understand my reasons for my rejection. But now, I think that it’s not worth it. I’ll never bother you again. Goodbye!” And then I heard the door open and then closed. I turned around after he left, my eyes filled with tears and my chest hurting.
