I ignored what I saw as I grunted and turned sharply, storming across the dungeon chamber. My heart was still thrumming in a rhythm that didn’t feel like mine. The air smelled of blood, metal, and the undeniable scent of him. My hand curled into a fist. I needed to breathe. I needed to forget.

But I couldn't.

Instead, I reached for the small black pouch I always carried. Salt. A reminder of pain. Of purification. Of consequence. I dipped my fingers into the coarse grains, each crystal like a grain of war history, and turned toward him slowly, my boots echoing across the stone floor.

He watched me in silence, chest heaving, sweat glistening down his battered torso. The whip marks along his back were raw and open—each one like a cursed mark I had placed there myself. Because I had. And each one felt heavier than the last.

"Turn around," I said, my voice rougher than I intended.

His brow arched with slow amusement, but he did as I commanded, his chains rattling with the movement. His bod

Vael and Eira went back to his room. The fire was dying low as what happened earlier in the court room seemed to fade off between them.Silence took the room like a second skin. Heavy. Tense. Sacred.Eira walked to the window, still barefoot, the hem of her gown brushing stone. Outside, the full moon cast silver across the dark forest, catching in the trees like shattered glass. Her hands gripped the sill. She didn’t need to turn to know he was still watching her.“He used to love full moons,” she said softly.Vael said nothing.Eira exhaled. “Your brother, I mean. He’d pull me out of bed when we were kids. Said we had to howl. ‘It’s in our blood, Eira,’ he used to say.”Silence. Then,“He’s not the only one with a wolf in his blood.”His voice came from behind her. Closer now.Eira smiled faintly, eyes still on the sky. “Have you ever howled at the moon?”“Only when I’m aching.”His hands came to her waist. Not asking.Claiming.He pressed up behind her, chest against her back, mouth

The room smelled of lavender oil and woodsmoke.Eira stood in front of a mirror, her bandages freshly changed, hair still damp from the basin bath Vael had brought in himself. Candle light streamed in through the narrow windows, catching the gold in her eyes and the bruising at her ribs. She wasn’t dressed yet.Not fully.Just a linen shift, loose at the shoulders, as Vael stood behind her, holding up the deep green gown he’d brought in. His gaze raked down her spine, slow, thorough, far too calm for the fire building behind his eyes.“You’re staring,” she murmured, hiding her smile.“You’re exposed,” he replied, unbothered. “I’m only appreciating the view before I cover it.”Eira turned her head slightly, lips twitching. “You’re getting bold.”He leaned closer, his voice brushing her ear like smoke. “No, sweetheart. I’ve always been bold. You’re just finally letting me show it.”She rolled her eyes, but her breath hitched as his fingers brushed her shoulder, sliding one arm of the dre

Eira sat propped up in the oversized bed, her hair messy and her skin pale against the furs. Vael put bandages across her ribs still pressed tight, and her breathing came shallow. Her body ached, but it was no longer the sharp pain of injury—it was the slow thrum of healing.Vael was kneeling beside the bed, sleeves rolled to his elbows, one hand holding a shallow clay bowl, the other stirring a mixture of crushed herbs into salve. His fingers were deft, steady, and streaked with dried blood that wasn’t his. He worked in silence, except for the occasional hum under his breath.“You’re staring,” he said without looking up, voice warm and smug.Eira flushed and looked away sharply. “I’m not.”He chuckled, low and deep. “Here we go again, you are. And it’s very flattering. Please don’t stop.”She rolled her eyes. “You’re impossible.”He dipped two fingers into the salve and looked up at her with a slow smile, all teeth and charm. “No, love. I’m Vael. But I can be impossible if it keeps y

The forest was darker here. The silence was unnatural,no owls, no rustle of wind. Just the thud of running feet and the ragged breath of the girl fleeing through the undergrowth.Blood soaked her side, warm and wet. Her vision blurred. She barely registered the clearing ahead until her knees gave out.She fell.A gasp escaped her lips as her body struck the cold moss. Her hands scrabbled against the earth, but there was nothing left. Her energy was gone. She was bleeding out.She would die here.Unless—A shadow moved. Then, the trees bent to it. The clearing held its breath. He appeared.A massive wolf, twice the size of any mortal beast, emerged from the woods like the mountain had birthed him. His fur was pitch black, streaked with veins of silver that pulsed faintly under moonlight. Golden eyes locked on her, intelligent and burning.Vael.The Wolf Lord. She barely had time to whisper his name before she collapsed fully. But he was already shifting. In the blink of an eye, the wolf

The cave’s mouth gaped behind her like a warning. Cool morning air clung to my skin as I stepped out, shoulders tight, lips pressed in a line. Every instinct in my body was on edge, humming with something raw and strange. My wolf, Nyxara, was practically vibrating inside me, anxious, thrilled, and territorial.I pressed a hand to my chest as if I could hold myself still.Then—BAM!!.I staggered forward, caught off-guard as someone collided gently into my path. Icy fingers wrapped around my arms to steady me.“Your majesty” Thalira’s voice was amused, but soft. “You never bump into people.”I blinked, pulling my focus into the present.Thalira raised a brow, head tilted. “You must be overwhelmed.”I swallowed hard, nodding slightly. She could still feel it,the echo of the rogue’s presence, how the bond had flared between them like an open flame in the dark. I hadn’t meant to touch him. Hadn’t meant to bleed. And yet…Thalira’s hands lingered a moment too long, still cold. “You’re fr

Raya’s POV.The silence between us pulsed with everything left unsaid.I sat in his lap, the vial of healing oil in my hand, still warm from where I’d held it. His skin, scarred and burned, rose and fell beneath me. My fingers hovered just above it, afraid to press too hard, to hurt him, or maybe... afraid of what I’d feel.“Hold still,” I murmured.“I can’t move,” he said, a low chuckle rumbling through his chest. “You chained me, remember?”I didn’t respond.Mostly because I liked the way that sounded. With slow care, I poured a single drop onto his chest. The oil glistened as it slid over the burned skin. I touched it gently, guiding it across the curve of his ribs, the dip between his collarbones, the mark near his heart. He inhaled sharply.“Sorry,” I whispered, even though I wasn’t sure if it was the pain that made him react—or the way I was touching him. Silly me!!He didn’t answer. He watched me, eyes heavy-lidded, following the path of my fingers like each stroke was a sentence
