Chapter 7
Jeffrey Cooper
After spending almost the whole night checking out the books the head of the editorial team forwarded to me for paid social media ads, I was finally able to select a few that would be put up for paid promotion on social media, of which Aliyah was one of the authors. She has been working hard, and trust me when I say her works are good, they really are very good, and just in three months she signed her recent book, she already hit two million views and made not less than seven thousand dollars with just royalties. I love her hard-working spirit. Everything about her is so perfect.
When I checked the time and realized that it was already 5am, I knew going to bed was as good as allowing my kids to go late to school, and going late to the office too, so I stood up from bed and left for the kitchen.
I took my time to clean the house, and once I was done, I started making breakfast for my kids. By the time I was done making breakfast, I left to wake the kids from sleep and got them ready for school.
"Daddy, didn't you sleep at night?" Ella asked as she held my cheeks in her little palms while observing my eyes which I knew had eyebags now.
"Yeah, I kind of didn't have a good sleep last night. I was busy with work. Come on, let's go to the dining," I held their hands and led them out of the room, heading to the dining room where they started eating while I went back to my room to get ready for work.
"You should get a maid to do all these, Jeff. You are wearing out, can't you see it?" My subconscious mind said to me as I stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom minutes later, ready to take my bath, but fuck it! I won't hire a maid. I prefer to take care of my kids alone. I didn't want someone coming here to bully my kids while I'm away.
After I was done having my bathe, I walked back into the room and took my time to get ready for the office. By the time I was done, it was already 6:45am, so I left my room, not after picking up my phone from the bed where I left it before I went to the bathroom.
"Daddy, you said you are going to change school for us. We want to go to the same school as Nancy," I had no idea why Emily was so keen on leaving her school and going to the same school as Nancy. It's crazy, but I knew that she was going to frustrate me eventually until I was left with the only option of saying yes to her.
"I'm going to think about it, darling," I replied to her as I glanced at them through the rear mirror, and she frowned her face.
"Daddy, I want to go to Nancy's school too," Ella spoke up, and I felt like screaming my lungs out. These kids will eventually make me go crazy.
"Alright, dear. Don't worry, I will take you to Nancy's school next term, ok? Just be patient, and I promise to take you there on your promotion to the next class," I assured them, and they beamed with smiles. Children don't deserve to be yelled at, but you could always talk to them calmly and get them to do what you want
"You have not seen stubborn kids," My subconscious mind reminded me, and I knew it was right. After I watched a few movies where the kids were extremely stubborn, trust me, with my low tolerance for bullshits, I think I would end up taking them to the orphanage to avoid the story that touches the heart later.
"Be a good girl, and don't play around. Listen to your teacher, ok?" I said to them before I finally handed them over to their class teacher, leaving the place afterward.
As I drove to the office minutes later, my phone started ringing and I pulled over at the side of the road before I reached out for the phone. Seeing the caller to be mom, I groaned frustratingly before I swiped the answer button.
"Hey, momma," I said to her in the calmest voice I always use for her, even though I'm frustrated, knowing why she was calling me.
"Baby... How are you doing?" Her sweet voice sounded through the phone.
"I'm fine, momma. How have you been?" I asked her as I rested my head on the headrest.
"I'm fine. When are you planning to get married, Jeff? It's been seven years already, are you planning to stay single forever? You need to get married so your kids can be taken care of..."
"Momma, can we talk about this later? I need to hurry to the office now..."
"I'm sending someone to you today. You may go back home to meet her, so don't be surprised. She is my friend's daughter and a very nice girl..."
"Momma..."
"I'm not asking you to marry her, so don't think about it. I know you will be stressed taking care of the kids all alone, so I sent her to work as their nanny and take care of them. I know how careful you are when it comes to the kids, so don't worry, she is someone I know very well, and she won't try anything stupid," She said to me, and I sighed briefly. It wasn't that I could change her mind, so there was no point arguing with her, so I just said that it was fine. I can always send the girl back if I'm not fine with her being around my kids, right?
I finally dropped the call before I drove to the company.
As I headed to my office, my phone beeped and I checked to see that it was a message via email. It was from Aliyah. Seeing Aliyah as the sender, I got so curious that I stopped in front of the elevator to check the message.
'I accept your offer' Seeing her reply gladdened my heart as if I just won a lottery. Aside from my feelings for her, she's someone that would add to our company positively...
Chapter 8 Aliyah POV I met my phone screen light on when I walked back into the room with Aliyah after is bathe her in the bathroom. Picking up the phone and realizing that it was an email from Jaxon's Empire, I opened it and checked the detail, as the realization dawned on me that my appointment with them was supposed to be in about an hour, and guess what? Today is also the Christmas celebration in Nancy's school. Fuck! What am I going to do? "Is everything alright, Mom?" I guess Nancy saw how I was staring at my phone, and she asked me. It was important for me to be at her school, and also important to be in the company. I can't leave either of them, and I'm hell-as confused right now. "Not really. I just got a call that I need to show up at Jaxon's Empire. I think we are going to close the deal today, and I need to be there. I also need to be with you at school. What should I do?" I whined as I slumped on the bed and ran my fingers through my hair frustratingly.
Chapter 9 Nancy stood in the school compound and stared at the gate that was wide open as many cars kept trooping in. The celebration was soon going to start, and her class was going to be the first present, and here she was all alone, waiting for her mom without any hope of her coming anytime soon. "Mommy, where are you?" She was almost in tears as she muttered those words. "Hey, Nancy," She turned to see one of her classmates, Elizabeth standing and holding hands with a tall man. The man was graced in a black suit, he has a shade of blue eyes, raven hair, curved jawline, and with the slight resemblance between him and the little girl, Nancy didn't need anyone to tell her that the man was her classmate Dad. "Hey," She replied to Elizabeth before she turned to stare at the gate again. "This is my Daddy, Nancy. Isn't he cute?" Hearing this from Elizabeth, she bit her bottom lip before she turned to face them with a smile lingering on her face. "Yes, he is. Good
Chapter 10 Aliyah POV My heart sank into my stomach when I heard Liam's voice from the other end, and I sprang up to my feet as my eyes narrowed in shock. "What do you want?" I asked him angrily. "I found Nancy here all alone, so I thought to keep her company. She is being bullied by her classmates," Hearing his voice made me feel guilty for leaving her, but the guilt soon dissipated into anger and I felt like strangling him. "I'm warning you, Liam. Stay the hell away from my child, now! Get the hell out of there!" I yelled at the top of my voice, not minding that I was in the middle of staffers here in the company. "Since you are not here yet, I'm going to keep her company for now. Don't worry, my lips are sealed. I won't say a word to her," With the way he whispered, I needed no one to tell me that she must be there with him. "Is that Mommy?" I heard her voice, and I gasped sharply as I covered my mouth with my palm. "Yes, it's her. Do you want to sp
Chapter 11 Jeffrey Cooper I couldn't help the excitement that filled my heart, waking up this morning and realizing that Aliyah would be resuming work today. Although we won't be staying in the same office, at least, she would be working in my company, and I'll get to see her whenever I wanted to. All I would have to do is to go see her in the office, then we are good. Since Ella and Emily now have a nanny to take care of them, my workload here has reduced, so I have only been focused on getting myself ready for work, and dropping them off at school before I leave for the office. As said by my mom, she sent the twenty-five years old Sunshine to work as my maid. Well, so far, she wasn't bad, but I haven't trusted her with my kids entirely. I was still being very careful around her, to avoid the story that touches the heart. 'If anything happens to my kids, you are going to see the ugly side of me. You can't touch a strand of their hair, you can't make them cry. If they
Chapter 12 Jeffrey Cooper The rest of my day in the office was boring since I couldn't just stop thinking about Aliyah. Her image kept popping up in my head every damn minute, and I needed not to be told that I was madly in love with her, and would probably lose it anytime soon. As I reclined on the chair while wondering what I was going to do to get her, my phone started ringing and I answered the call immediately, realizing that it was Sunshine. What's she calling me? I asked myself as I held the phone to my ear. "What is it, Sunshine?" I spoke on the phone as soon as I answered the call. "Sir, what should I make for dinner? I forgot to ask you before you left earlier. I already went to pick the kids from the school. They closed earlier than usual today," Her voice sounded from the other end, and I glanced at the wall clock before I rubbed my fingers on my forehead. I was supposed to leave the office in ten minutes to pick the kids up, so how come she went there
Chapter 13 A few days later Aliyah POV "Mommy, your friend came to see me in school today," My heart skipped when Nancy said those words to me, and I froze on the spot. I had just finished making dinner, and dishing out our food when she said that. "My friend? Which of my friends?" Even though I already know who she was talking about, I didn't want to believe that she was talking about him. "What's that his name again? I think Liam. Yes, he mentioned that his name is Liam," She replied to me, and I slowly clenched my fingers tightly around the spoon I was holding, as I gritted my teeth. Waves of anger sparked through me. I have told him to stay the hell away from my child, so why the fuck was he still hanging around her? What right does he think he has over her to think he could go see her whenever he wanted it? "He is a nice person, you know? He took me out on a walk in the school compound, and even got me my favorite candy. He also promised to check up on me
Chapter 14Aliyah POVMy head banged as I forced my eyes open, and the white ceiling of my room welcomed me. My vision was blurred at first, but as seconds passed, it finally became clear, and I managed to sit up on the bed, wondering how I ended up in my room when I was in the living room the last time I could remember."Ugh!" I groaned tiredly as I touched my forehead. My head wasn't hurting so much again, but I felt tired. How come the fever suddenly went away? I know I took some medicines before I passed out, but it couldn't have been the medicine that worked magic on me, right? I asked myself as I managed to stand up from the bed, dragging myself into the bathroom where I washed my face before I walked back into the room, but I stopped when I found Jeff standing in my room and dropping something on the center table."Jeff?" I called, and he quickly turned to face me, while having a smile on his face."You are awake?" He asked as he tucked his hands inside his pockets, and I slowl
Chapter 15Aliyah POVI woke up this morning, feeling lightheaded and full of energy. Sitting up on the bed, a smile laced up my lips as the thought of Jeff crossed my mind. I had no idea why I was suddenly smiling thinking of him, but I believe it was because he saved me from dying yesterday.'Let's go on dates, and get to know each other' As I recalled the words he said to me yesterday, I sighed briefly and ran my fingers through my hair. I have been thinking about what he said to me, but I didn't know if I was ready for this, honestly. I just wanted to take care of my baby and focus on my career even though I was already doing well in my career. I just wanted to explore the small world I created for me and my baby. Just us alone. My phone suddenly beeped, and I lazily reached out for it, unlocking it.'Good morning. Did you sleep well? If you are not fine, I can come and pick Nancy up for school. You don't have to worry, I won't say a word to her' That was a message from Liam that
