The chain snapped.

And Noa fell.

Alessio’s roar shattered through the comm like gunfire. “NOA!”

His boots scraped against the dock as he sprinted back toward the platform, the pressure switch now dangling uselessly, the hook swinging like a noose in the cold night air.

Smoke billowed, the scent of burning oil choking his throat.

“Noa!” Alessio’s lungs burned, his chest caved, his vision pinwheeling. “Answer me, answer me!”

Silence.

Only the echo of his scream, bouncing back like a cruel joke.

Luca’s weak voice crackled in his ear. “Boss”

“Don’t.”

“I’ll get the men”

“I said don’t. Stay with the van.”

Alessio’s body moved like he wasn’t driving it anymore, sprinting to the edge of the lower platform, peering into the swirling black water below.

Nothing.

No ripples. No thrashing. No sign.

His heart detonated in his chest.

He yanked the comm. “Noa. Baby. Angel. Say something.”

Static.

Fury bled through his ribs. He grabbed a flashlight, diving off the dock into the freezing water without

Silence detonated between them, thick and suffocating, like the entire world had stopped breathing. The birth certificate sat on the table like a bomb no one dared to touch.Noa’s pulse rattled through his skull. His mouth was dry, his throat burning, his ribs still ached like hell but none of it hurt like this. She was his mother. She was his mother. And nowShe was Alessio’s too.His handler. His enemy. His brother. His lover.“No,” Alessio’s voice finally cracked out, low and sharp like a blade. “She’s lying.”“She’s not,” Luca’s voice came out small, like he already knew they were sinking.“She forges files.”“She sent the DNA too.” Luca slid another folder onto the table, his hand shaking. “It matches. You and Noa. Full siblings. Same mother. Same blood.”Noa’s knees buckled, his hands curling around the edge of the chair like it was the only thing anchoring him. “This…this is a mistake.”“It’s not.” Alessio’s jaw clenched so hard his temple twitched. “She’s playing us.”“She kne

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: GAME OF MONSTERS

The phone hit the wall, shattering into plastic and wires, but the sickly echo of her voice still clung to Alessio’s skull like a rot he couldn’t claw out.She had Luca. His Luca. His brother. His right hand. His family. The room pulsed around him, heat flooding his chest as he ripped his jacket off, grabbing his weapons with a precision that would’ve scared anyone else.Noa stirred on the couch, groggy, bruised, stitched together but not whole. “What happened?”Alessio didn’t look at him. Couldn’t. His jaw was locked so tight his teeth ached. “She took Luca.”Noa forced himself upright, hissing as his ribs screamed in protest. “She what?”“She has him. She sent me a video.”Noa’s heart slammed against his ribs. “Show me.”“It’s gone. Burned the second it played. Classic ghost play.” Alessio strapped his gun to his thigh, venom curling under his tongue. “But I saw enough. He’s alive. For now.”Noa’s hands fisted the blanket over his lap. “It’s a trap.”“I don’t care.”“She’s using him

The comm screamed in Alessio’s ear. Static. Silence. Nothing else. Noa wasn’t answering. Noa wasn’t breathing. Noa was gone.Alessio shoved past Luca, ignoring the roar of collapsing beams, the spit of flame still crackling through the pit. His lungs burned, his pulse ricocheting through his skull as his boots slammed against the concrete, skidding to a stop just inches from the crumbling edge.“Noa!” His voice ripped out of him, raw, panicked, desperate. The smoke was thick, the pit buried in flaming debris, the ground a spider web of cracks that threatened to split at his feet.Luca’s hand caught his arm, dragging him back. “The floor’s going”Alessio shoved him off, fury snapping through his teeth. “I don’t give a fuck.”“Boss”“I don’t care!”Alessio’s heart thundered, his vision blurring as he dropped to his knees and bellowed into the ash, “Noa! You don’t get to leave me! You hear me? You don’t get to fucking leave me!”A faint cough crackled through the comm.Alessio’s heart jo

  • Monster Can Love Too   CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE: THE MOTHER WHO WOULDN’T DIE

The phone slipped from Alessio’s fingers and hit the floor like the weight of it was too much to hold. Noa couldn’t pull his eyes from the screen. Couldn’t process the impossible. She was alive. The woman he’d gutted. The woman who raised him like a weapon. The woman who’d put a bullet through his ribs like it was just another Tuesday. His handler. His fake mother.Dragging Dominik’s bleeding body out of the burning van like she’d walked straight out of hell. His voice cracked when he finally spoke. “She’s supposed to be dead.”“She’s supposed to be dead,” Luca echoed, his breath still ragged, eyes wide like the ghost on that screen was about to crawl into the room.Alessio dragged his hands through his hair, pacing like the floor was seconds from caving. “We left her to bleed out.”“I stabbed her,” Noa hissed, rage crawling up his spine. “I watched the life drain out of her eyes. I left her.”“She survived,” Luca muttered, picking up the phone, scrubbing through the footage. “And she

The echo of the gunshot slammed through the warehouse like thunder ripping the sky apart. For a heartbeat, everything stopped. No one moved. No one breathed. And then Dominik stumbled. His smirk faltered, confusion flashing across his face like he hadn’t expected the pain blooming in his side. His hand slipped from Noa’s mother’s throat, blood blooming between his fingers as he staggered back.Noa’s chest heaved, his gun still smoking, his arm shaking so bad it felt like it wasn’t even part of him anymore. He didn’t miss. He chose.Alessio’s low gasp cut through the static. “You shot him.”Noa’s voice barely made it past the rubble of his throat. “I shot him.”Dominik’s laugh sputtered, choked and wet, but he still grinned like the bullet didn’t matter. “Atta boy,” he rasped, dropping to one knee. “I taught you well.”Noa’s mother scrambled out of Dominik’s loose grip, collapsing to the ground in a sobbing heap, arms hugging herself like she could still feel the phantom blade against
