Chapter 4

Author: Mariana
Johanna couldn't help but contemplate the situation. The Silverplume pack was undoubtedly the most prominent in the Northern Wolflands. They seemed invincible, but who knew how many dark, unspeakable secrets were hidden behind their strength?

Even the pack Alpha not only betrayed his Luna but even teamed up with the entire pack in an attempt to play her for a fool.

For the sake of their so-called glory and ensuring the survival of the pureblood lineage, they had the audacity to propose having him be the father of the pup instead. They even wanted her, the one who had been betrayed, to raise the offspring produced through his infidelity once the pup was born.

It was nothing short of them cruelly trampling all over her dignity.

Allison was now with pup. There was a unique duality to werewolves—while they were physically formidable and had extraordinary recovery rates, she-wolves were extremely weak when they were carrying a pup and required constant care from the males.

That night, Carlin didn't pretend to be locked away in the ancestral shrine like he had the past few months. Instead, he conjured up an excuse for himself. He told Johanna that since Allison was pregnant, he had to check on her. He was worried something might happen to Allison and Uriel's pup.

Johanna had long since been hurt and disillusioned by him. She no longer felt disappointed. Instead, her gaze was filled with nothing more than exhaustion and indifference.

"Got it. Go ahead. I'm tired. I'm going to sleep," she said.

She was no longer interested in seeing what Carlin and Allison got up to. They had done far too many unforgivable things already. She couldn't be bothered to care whether even more might happen tonight.

It was nearly dawn when Carlin finally returned to their room. Although he hugged her from behind as affectionately as ever, his voice was clearly laced with the huskiness of someone who had just satisfied his physical lust.

"Sorry, Jo. I ended up staying a little longer with Allison. Don't take it the wrong way. She was crying because she missed Uriel, so I had to keep her company. I tried talking to her and comforting her in the hopes of making her feel better."

Johanna could smell Allison's scent on Carlin. Feeling repulsed, she forcefully struggled out of Carlin's arms.

"Why did you come back then? You should just move into Allison's place. Since she's pregnant, she needs you to take care of her the way Uriel would've. I don't need that."

Johanna couldn't keep the anger and disgust out of her eyes.

"Why are you suddenly having a fit? Uriel died saving me, and Allison is carrying his pup. Isn't it my duty to console her in his place when she's upset?" Carlin retorted.

"Jo, do you actually think something is going on between Allison and me? If you insist on thinking that… so be it. I won't ever get involved with Allison's matters anymore. If you want me to stay away from her, I'll do as you wish. I'm going to prove my innocence to you, even if it means bearing the brunt of Mother and the elders' reprimands."

Despite saying that, he took his anger out on Johanna anyway. Shoving her aside roughly, he left in a huff, slamming the door behind him.

"For at least three days, the Alpha of the Silverplume pack won't be returning to his territory. If you're keen, I can provide even more intel, such as a map of the pack's territory and the location of their forces. "Since all three of your packs are sharing this deal together, I'll give you a 20% discount. I'm also agreeable to accepting a deposit first. You can pay off the rest once you've successfully completed everything," Skoll said.He was a bounty hunter, and selling intel was part of his job. Thus, he was able to make all the arrangements. The Silverplume pack had dominated the Northern Wolflands for several decades now. Naturally, that meant they attracted a whole host of enemy packs who lay in wait, biding their time, hoping to one day replace the Silverplume pack.Skoll was no saint. After giving Carlin another thrashing, he leisurely followed Johanna home. He did Johanna's bidding, and she had decided not to kill Carlin.Considering the future that awaited Carlin and

Through it all, Carlin never showed even the slightest hint of reluctance. Once he killed Allison, he coldly instructed his subordinates to deal with the body. His mind was already someplace else.He immediately rushed back to the East Continent. He wanted to pull Johanna into his arms. Thoughts of her consumed him, and it nearly drove him mad.At last, he could finally declare that he had done as she asked, so it was time for her to come back to him.He would hold an even more lavish mate bonding ceremony for her. There wouldn't be anyone else but the two of them. He wanted to leave his mark on her and make her his Luna once more. But why would Johanna agree to that?Carlin made an even more touching promise this time."Jo, I admit that I wronged you in many ways before. I've hurt you deeply," Carlin said, his voice filled with earnestness as he solemnly vowed to Johanna. "However, I've recognized the error in my ways now, and I accept your punishment. Please believe me when I s

"No… Don't… I don't want to die…" Allison sobbed.Gripped by terror over her imminent death, she was crying desperately. Her tears and snot streaked down her nose before mixing with the blood that spilled from her neck. She looked like a pathetic mess. Still, no matter how much she wailed and begged, it did nothing to change her fate.To Carlin, her attempts to break free were no more than a kitten scratching at him. It didn't stop him in any way."Carlin, I carried a pup for ten months for you!" Allison cried at the top of her lungs. "How can you ignore all that? How can you still choose to take my life?"Carlin was unmoved. He looked at Allison with an icy, callous gaze and said, "Allison, I think being on the brink of death has addled your brain. You're Uriel's widow. You only became with pup because the Moon Goddess couldn't bear to let the pureblood lineage of our pack die out. What does it have to do with me?""Why, you!"It was an incredibly shameless thing for Carlin to s

Right from the start, Johanna knew she had to make Carlin suffer a fate worse than death. However, his words reminded her of something. He wasn't the only one who needed to suffer—Allison shouldn't be getting away with it so easily either. After formulating a plan, Johanna exchanged looks with Skoll. He took the hint and set the soup bowl down before backing away from her a little. Meanwhile, she fixed her eyes back on Carlin."Words mean nothing, Carlin. How can I be sure that once you go back to the pack, you'll fulfill your promise and kill Allison so that she can't get in between us ever again?" Johanna asked."No one knows better than I just how alluring she is to male werewolves. What if you manage to trick me into following you back with this promise, but you end up becoming too reluctant to do it when you see her again?"Carlin had been desperately trying to win back Johanna for ages now. This was her first time mentioning the possibility of returning to his side. That was

Johanna assumed that, being the Alpha of the Silverplume pack, Carlin should've been the pinnacle of what a male werewolf could do. She had no idea the advantages of being a half-breed would come up in this particular way.Skoll kept her pinned beneath him the entire night. He barely even gave her time for a breather! As it was, this was his first taste of such pleasures. He had an overwhelming desire to explore every possible position and movement. He proved to be a formidable student. Once Johanna, his "mentor", showed him what to do, he took the initiative to further his education without needing any more guidance from her.In a single night together, Johanna had to keep begging him to take it easy on her. She couldn't handle his fiery passion."Not there, Skoll.""I said not there. Stop! I don't have any strength left in my waist and legs.""Stop pouting. Why are you acting like you're hurt? It's not like I said I won't let you do it anymore…""Just let me rest for a bit… Le

While looking straight at Johanna, Skoll patiently asked with a smile, "Have you ever thought about why I agreed without hesitation to lend a hand when Belinda approached me?""Why?" Johanna asked.Skoll blushed, getting shy before he even answered the question. "It's because I like you, Jo. Both your beauty and your personality are precisely what I like in someone. I know there won't be any she-wolf or dragonkin who accepts me for being a half-breed. Nevertheless, I like you, so I hope I can do things that make you happy. I want to help you get even with those who hurt you before."After saying that, Skoll made a proposal to Johanna. "Don't we have the same goal now, Jo? We both want Carlin to experience the anguish he once inflicted on you and to suffer even more than you did. I promise you, Jo, if you do it with me, I will allow you to experience true pleasure even as you get even with him."Johanna had a conflicted look on her face. Skoll sure was young—only someone young would
