CHAPTER 17: ENCOUNTER AT THE CREEKS.

Just above the ground floor of the Iron Den, Talia caught sight of Lord Xavier and Enock leaving together in the same carriage.

"I wonder what those two are up to," she said, looking keenly at them. She had not yet left the Iron Den despite leaving the throne room earlier than the duo. She was headed to the Luna's quarters.

Talia arrived at the quarters and met some of the royal guards.

"Visitors are not allowed, Lady Talia," one of the guards said as she approached them.

"Well, I'm here on the King's business. I didn't come of my own accord. Except you want me to go tell him that I was unable to accomplish the task because of both of you... But I'm sure you both wouldn't want that, now would you?"

The guards gulped and looked at each other. The other, who didn't speak, nodded at the other, giving the go-ahead.

"Apologies, my Lady," the guard said as he stepped aside, granting her access. With a smile and nod of acknowledgment, Talia walked i

CHAPTER 47: DEALING WITH THE AFTER EFFECT.BARAKAR'S POV. Walking back to my chamber, it felt like my head was in the clouds - as though I was in another dimension. The sensation of Raya's lips intertwined with mine was still strong. I could think of nothing else but her - her touch, her smell, her tender body. I hastened my steps, passing the guards without reciprocating their salutations. I needed to get to my chamber. I felt like I was losing my breath as the memory of that intense moment with Raya, along with the accompanying sensation, reemerged. It was all in my head. The moment I walked into my chamber, I slammed the door shut and lay my back on it, breathing in and out, doing my best to still my tumultuous heart and the raging thoughts.'You're foolish to have left her when she wanted more. You should have finished what you started! What a coward. Now you'll look like a weakling in her eyes.'My thoughts were on rampage, lashing out at me. And yes, I felt guilty. I probabl

CHAPTER 46: DESPITE THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT.RAYA'S POV.Standing by the door that leads to the balcony, I stared at the city once again through the clear glass door. Despite the onslaught the ladies and I encountered, the city wasn't brought to a standstill. It was bustling as before. The activities that moved me to want to go sightseeing continued on. Did I want to continue my tour? Yes! But I couldn't. I knew King Barakar would forbid me from setting foot outside the Iron Den, seeing what happened. Sighing, I casually lifted my hand and munched on the last piece of pastry that Redchild served me a little while ago after I was done freshening up and changing into a different cloth. The pastry was laced with butter and blueberries in the middle. The outside had a brown crust, but the inside was tender and delicious - another delicacy foreign to me.Walking back to my table, I took a sip of hot tea. Just then, I heard a knock on the door. "Come in," I responded. As the door swung

CHAPTER 45: DELIBERATIONS.BARAKAR'S POV."The Black Death's interest in Lady Raya is troubling, Sire. But it's nothing can't handle," Talia said as we walked the hallways of the Iron Den, as we headed to the Hall of Lords. "It's either that someone despises the fact that Raya is set to soon be the Queen, and my Luna, or they just want to get at me. Whatever the reason may be, they will never succeed," I said resolutely. "I don't know if you noticed, but, Enock seemed awfully quiet all the while as we were outside," Talia pointed out, causing me to furrow my brow."I'm not supposing anything though-" "But it seems quite suspicious. I know," I interrupted. "Enock has always been detached after Andrea's death. He may have just been in his normal disposition, especially since it concerned Raya." "Perhaps," Talia shrugged. We soon arrived at the Hall of Lords and the doors swung open for us by the effort of the soldiers who stood guard. We walked in and met the lords all assembled as

CHAPTER 44: ALLY OR FOE?RAYA'S POV.King Barakar and Talia led me to my chamber after I recounted all that happened. The soldiers opened the door as he led me in. Kieran and the maids followed us."I can only imagine how shaken up you must have been. But I'm glad no harm came to you," he said, looking at me with such caring eyes. "Me too," I smiled, blushing. "By the way, how did you fend off the attackers? I forgot to ask," King Barakar inquired. "The guards did their best, but the Black Death was much more powerful for them. But luckily, there were three individuals - commonfolks, who happened to be passing by, and they lent a hand. "They were able to ward off the assassins, and even kill one?" Talia asked."Yes. Surprisingly," I shrugged, "Inasmuch as they didn't even know who we were.""Those were no common folks then," King Barakar concluded, reasoning wisely. "I'd like to personally express my gratitude to them for risking their lives for you even when they had no knowledge

CHAPTER 43: SITUATION ANALYSIS.RAYA'S POV. During my last exchange with Vira, as I stood close to her, looking into her eyes, I recognized the look in those eyes. They were the eyes of someone filled with pain and hurt, from betrayal. I could relate. I've been there before. But what amazed me the most was that she still had the bravery to face her past, to defend a total stranger. Now that's true courage. I admired that a lot about her.I returned to where Kieran and the girls stood. "Is everyone okay?" "Yes, my Lady," Redchild answered. "I am, my Lady," Ayana nodded. "Now you see why I didn't want you to leave the safety of the Iron Den, my Lady? Out here can be dangerous," Kieran said, finally having a justification to air her mind once again. All the while that the attack was on, for some unknown reason I remained calm. I was a bit scared at first as I had never been in such a life-threatening situation like that. But then, I found myself not so agitated. My wolf was usuall

CHAPTER 42: FACING THE PAST AND ENCOUNTERING THE FUTURE (2).Vira pushed away the scarfaced lady, standing between her and Raya, panting. Vira held the blade in her left hand with the sharp double edge facing up in the direction of her thumb and index finger, while the one in her right hand was held horizontally with the sharp edge facing the direction of her little finger. The scar-faced lady paced a bit as she looked around, from Vira to the twins. "So you think you outnumber me, and have me surrounded, huh?" she scoffed and took a fighting stance, creating her blades as well. Rooni and Nooni strung their arrows, taking aim. The atmosphere got tense. She speedily charged toward Raya again, then the twins shut at her. With a swing of her left hand, she deflected the arrows as she shot a ball of fire at the twins. The twins took cover, jumping to the side as the fire raged toward them. The scar-faced lady advanced toward Vira, and Vira advanced toward her as well. She threw her bla
