Life And Death Proposal

In a cold hospital room lies a frail-looking old man, the old man of the McCall household on his sick bed. He’s been battling with a hereditary illness for years and lasting till now has been nothing but a miracle.

Rhett McCall knows it’s been a miracle for his grandfather to last this long but he didn’t want to hope for much regarding his case because it doesn’t scratch out the fact that he might end up like that sooner or later.

Rhett cherishes his grandfather so much and would do anything to make him happy but it’s quite unfortunate that he was helpless in the face of this illness, even his wealth was put to shame.

He had rushed to the hospital last night after receiving a call that his grandfather had a seizure after his second surgery.

He was so worried about spending the night at the hospital.

Finally, he saw his Grandfather open his eyes.

“Did you spend the night here again?” He asked, his frail voice coming out almost as a whisper.

His excitement was short-lived as he began to worry again.

“How are you feeling today?” he asked with a faint smile.

“I feel better trust me so do not fear” he replied.

“I’m glad to see that you’re doing fine… I’ll take my leave now” he informed, eyes heavy with sadness.

“Do you still resent me, Rhett?”His grandfather’s question forced him to stop.

“I have just one question, grandfather” he turned back with a known look.

“Why did you choose Rachel over Ashley?”

“You know the answer to this Rhett. She was adopted by Roland out of pity and to top that, she cheated on you! Someone like that wasn’t worthy to stand by your side as the grandson of the McCall empire” he said without remorse.

The worst pain is not oblivion or being kept in the dark, it’s knowing the truth but still powerless to change the outcome.

Rhett clenched his fists, he’s hurt because his grandfather would not stop lying to him even when he knew the truth behind that decision of his five years ago.

“I have doubled the workers at the mansion to tend to your needs. I will come by before you get discharged” He said in defeat.

“You should put a ring on that girl’s finger! You’ve been engaged for five years Rhett”

“She wanted a ring and I gave her one… the title of the ring is up to me grandfather”

And with that, he walked out of the hospital room.

Over the years, He has worked harder than before and managed to get to the top 3 richest billionaires in the country. With immeasurable success and properties at his disposal, he’s got everything but lacks everything.

He became stricter and cold-hearted. An unapproachable and powerful figure.

With pain-filled eyes, Rhett turned around to take the view of the entire hospital.

“Everyone only knows how to lie… just like she did too,” he said.

“Mr.Rhett, you are to head back to the mansion, for now, Mrs.McCall came visiting,” His assistant said.

“When did I get married to her?” he asked in anger.

“My sincere apologies boss”

A black Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of a luxurious mansion and Rhett stepped out looking exceptional and breathtaking despite his troubled look.

On getting to the main entrance, his assistant stopped following and began assigning tasks to the mansion workers all to ensure that Rhett McCall would have a comfortable stay in the few moments that he was going to spend there.

When he entered the bedroom, Rachel was sitting on the bed with smudged makeup and messy hair. Rhett could care less as he scoffed at her shameful composure and headed for the bathroom door.

“Why are you just returning this morning?! We’ve missed the perfect date again and I don’t know why you despise me so much!” She yelled on top of her voice but Rhett didn’t stop.

“If you don’t want to marry me, at least get me pregnant Rhett!”

And with that, he was forced to halt his steps.

Rhett turned to face her with a calm look, voice steady and neutral “I never tied you down with me Rachel, you’re still young and pretty” he said to her, raising his fingertips to brush the hair from her face.

She shivered under her touch as he had never for once been near her.

Her angry face melted and she cried in defeat “Please Rhett, it’s been years and she’s probably dead by now. Please forget her and focus on me”

Unfortunately, the calm look on his face disappeared and was replaced with disgust. He retreated from her.

“Don’t you ever mention her to me again” he warned sternly.

“Exactly, that’s how it should be. She lied and cheated on you. But I’ve been a faithful woman to you for years so why is it hard for you to open your heart to me?

You always bail out whenever I’m ovulating, can I know why you’re doing this to me? Everyone’s looking down on me because you don’t love me. I was called ugly names and I just can’t do this anymore” she sniffled in her tears and continued.

“I guess I’ll have to talk to Grandfather again. It took years of pleading before you permitted me to visit your home so I don’t mind stressing over this as well” she threatened.

“I can’t live with a woman I’m not married to. How’s that a problem?” Rhett asked her nonchalantly.

“What a joke! It’s always a different case with me. I know you didn’t process the divorce all these years and that’s why you didn’t want to marry me”

“Tell your doctor to choose another date and stop being a nuisance,” Rhett said simply and walked off to the bathroom.

Rachel processed his words late because she was not expecting him to give in that fast to her tantrum.

A few minutes later, Rhett was done preparing for the day and he came out to see Rachel fully dressed too, with a smile as if nothing happened.

She glued herself to Rhett’s side to accompany him to the car all to avoid rumor.

“Any update on the New City project?” Rhett asked his assistant.

“Not yet boss, I don’t know how our competitors heard about the deal and now we have four other companies on the contract” he explained.

“I can’t lose that contract, we must get to them first. I’ve been trying to reach out to them but it’s just not possible

“Are you worried about the Gu contract? I heard about it from the rich women’s meeting.” Rachel joined in the conversation.

“Since when did you start having an interest in business talks?”

“Hear me out, I’m very confident that I can pull this off. I’ve managed to get in touch with a friend who works in the blue house. They will have no choice but to side with us” Rachel said with a smirk.

“It’s a life or death proposal, ma’am, I don’t think…” The assistant was saying out of concern when Rachel yelled at him from the back seat.

“If I can’t make this work then I’ll give up on being your Fiancée,” Rachel said confidently.

Rhett raised his brows in confusion “Then It’s worth giving a try” he complied.

“And if this works out, you must marry me immediately” Rachel added with a sly smile.
