Aria Blake ~•~ Why did Julian say I ruined the marriage? What the hell did I do to warrant such an accusation from him? The only thing I’d done in the past weeks was to fight for us. But what did I get in return? Divorce papers with a baseless accusation. I ran a hand through my hair. “What exactly did I do, Julian? And don’t say it’s nothing because if you can accuse me, you might as well say what I did.” Julian looked at me for a few quiet seconds as though he was studying my face. I held his gaze, waiting in anticipation to hear what he had to say. Before he could respond, the buzzing of his phone interrupted us. From the expression on his face, I could tell that he was relieved that the call came right at that moment. My eyebrows furrowed as he reached for his phone. “We are having a conversation right now, you don’t have to answer the call right now.” He dismissed what I said and stood up immediately. While I was still talking, he walked out of the room to take the phone call. He probably didn’t want me to overhear the conversation. I didn’t need anybody to tell me that it was his ex-girlfriend on the phone. A part of me wanted to run after him, but I chose to wait for him until he was done with his call. When the bedroom door clicked shut, panic tightened my chest. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to lose my marriage. But it seemed like I didn’t have a choice anymore. I waited a few minutes, but Julian didn’t return. Then I reached out for my phone and dialed my best friend’s number. She was the only one I could talk to about what was happening. I needed to talk to someone or I was going to lose my mind. Harper answered on the third ring. “Hey… how’s everything?” she asked curiously. A sharp breath left my lips. “Not good.” Harper hesitated for a while before she continued. “I saw the news, I was on my way to work, but I planned on calling you after.” I closed my eyes tightly for a few moments. It was a public humiliation. Everyone had seen it. “Aria, are you still there?” Harper asked gently when I’d remained silent. “I’m so sorry about everything.” I bit my lower lip. “You don’t have to apologize. It’s not your fault,” I said, letting out a sigh. “I just want to be there for you, Aria.” There was silence for a few seconds. “H—he said that I ruined everything… he’s blaming me for everything,” I finally said, my voice trembling. “He said he doesn’t love me anymore.” Harper gasped. “What? Why?” I shrugged my shoulders. “I have no idea,” I said with a sniffle. “I just don’t understand what has gotten into him. Why would he mess around with his ex, give me divorce papers, and blame me for everything?” “What?” Harper exclaimed. “He gave you divorce papers?” I nodded shamefully. “Yes, he gave them to me… this morning,” I replied softly even though my throat was sore. “Wow,” Harper murmured. I didn’t say anything. The only thing I could think about was why he would switch on me like that. So all our years of marriage meant nothing to him? “Is it because we don’t have a child together?” I asked, tears streaming down my cheeks. “No, no, don’t say that,” Harper replied without hesitation. “That’s not the reason and you know it.” I didn’t know anything anymore. Even the man I thought was my soulmate had turned out to be a different person whom I couldn’t recognize anymore. “Then what is the reason? What if he had been having an affair with his girlfriend and she’s finally pregnant? What if he doesn’t know how to tell me the truth?” Harper let out a breath. “You’re thinking too far right now. I need you to be calm and tell me about everything that happened when he came back.” Harper’s voice was gentle, and it made me feel a little bit relaxed. Just a little bit. It did nothing to reduce the excruciating pain that was lingering in my chest. I explained everything to her while trying so hard not to cry. When I was done, she took a while before she finally said something. “Do you think there’s a chance… even just a little chance that it has something to do with the time when you had lunch with—,” “No!” I cut her off before she could even finish her sentence. “Don’t say that. It doesn’t have anything to do with it and there’s no way that Julian could have found out about that harmless meeting.” Honestly, I hadn’t thought about it earlier. I met up with my ex a few months ago. We ran into each other while I was getting lunch. So we decided to eat together at the restaurant. But it was nothing more. We didn’t even exchange contacts. And it had been a long time. That couldn’t be the reason why Julian would give me divorce papers or even accuse me of ruining our marriage. There was something more. In fact, there was nothing. It wasn’t my fault. He was just tired of me and wanted to get back to his ex, so he decided to make it seem like everything was my fault because he didn’t want to be the bad guy at the end. “Are you sure?” Harper asked carefully. I shook my head. “Yes.” “So what are you going to do now?” “When he comes back and still doesn’t want to be honest with me, I’ll have no choice but to sign the papers.” “Aria, is that what you really want?” I shook my head. “No, but what else can I do?” Before she could say anything else, the door creaked open. Julian walked in with an unreadable expression on his face. “Have you signed the papers?” he asked when he came closer to the bed. “No.” “Good. Don’t sign it yet.” Yet? What was going on? Why didn’t he want me to sign it anymore?Chapter 119Aria Blake ~•~ “Samuel, can we do this later?” I groaned. “I’m going to pick up the kids and I don’t want to argue in front of them.” Samuel scoffed from the other end of the line. “It’s always one thing or the other. I don’t even know what’s wrong with you.”My lips parted and I blinked. I sat frozen in the driver’s seat, staring at the dashboard in complete disbelief. Was he serious? After the traumatic week I had, he had the guts to say he had no idea what was wrong with me? Did he even have an ounce of empathy left in his body? The only thing I wanted from him was patience, but he couldn’t help but act weird. A low breath escaped my lips and I held the phone tighter. “I’ve been trying my best to keep you in the loop. A lot is going on over here,” I said with a sigh. “But it’s just as if you want us to be on the phone all the time.” “I just want to talk to my girlfriend. You don’t even have time for me anymore,” he continued, ignoring everything I had just said.
Chapter 118Julian Cross ~•~ When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a hospital. I looked around and saw Aria and Cole sitting on the couch. They were discussing but I couldn’t quite hear or understand what they were saying. How did I end up in the hospital? The last thing I remembered was being at the abandoned warehouse with Daniel when he threatened to kill both of us. Or was I dead? I slapped my leg to check if I could feel pain. The sound made Cole and Aria look in my direction. “You’re awake.” Aria was the first to speak, and she looked as if a heavy weight had been lifted off her shoulders. “Finally.” Both of them stood up at the same time and moved closer to the bed. “Am I dead?” I asked, blinking multiple times. Cole laughed. “You’re being so dramatic. I’m so glad to have you back,” he answered, placing a hand on my forehead. “How do you feel?” “Weird,” I answered without hesitation. “What happened?” “It’s a long story.” I tilted my head. “Tell me, I have time
Chapter 117Julian Cross ~•~ I spent about thirty minutes making the recording Daniel wanted. He even had a written script that he wanted me to follow. For the sake of peace, I did exactly as he asked. When I was done, I let out a sharp exhale. A part of me didn’t even blame Daniel for what he was doing. If I were in his shoes, I would have wanted revenge. But he had put me through so much and I expected him to let me go. However, However, Daniel didn’t plan to let me leave the warehouse.I begged him, and even offered to give him whatever he wanted. He refused and told me that money wasn’t the answer to everything. “Okay, can I call Aria and ask her if she has picked up the kids yet?” Daniel scoffed bitterly, his voice echoing through the quiet place. “You don’t trust me? You think everyone is a liar like you?” I rubbed my temple. “I just want to be sure.” It took a while before I was able to convince him to call her. He dialed her number with his phone because he had confi
Chapter 116Aria Blake ~•~ Claire’s calls had been making my phone buzz nonstop, so I had to go to a quiet corner to answer her. We had already talked a while ago and I filled her in on everything that was happening. But since Harper confessed, we hadn’t spoken. “What’s going on, Aria,” she asked with a concerned voice. But she also sounded anxious at the same time. “Is everything okay now?”“No…” My voice broke. “It has gotten even more complicated. Harper claims not to know where the kids are. She said she was only following instructions.” I still hadn’t processed the fact that she only got close to me because she had a mission. Harper was sick and I shouldn’t have gotten involved with her. But thinking about that part at the moment would be like crying over spilled milk. I decided not to bring it up.“Do you believe that she doesn’t know where the kids are?” Claire asked, her voice low. “I mean, did she sound genuine?” I sighed. “The last thing I would do is give Harper th
Chapter 115Julian Cross ~•~ Daniel asked me to follow him into an abandoned warehouse in the deserted area. For a moment, I hesitated because I was scared of what he might do. At the same time, my kids would be there. Before I could make a decision, he grabbed my arm and forcefully dragged me in the opposite direction. I yanked his hand away. “Stop… you don’t have to use force.” He glared at me. “Don’t you understand what is happening right now? You’re my captive and you would do whatever I say,” he said in a cold tone. “If you don’t listen to me, you’ll only be endangering the lives of your kids.” I took a slow breath. “Fine. I’ll follow you.” He stood beside me, his gun placed on the back of my head as he directed me to walk forward. “And I want you to know that if you lied about the police, I’ll kill you and your kids.” If I had known I was walking into a trap, I would have made better decisions. I wouldn’t have shown up at the location alone. In no time, we got into t
Chapter 114Julian Cross ~•~ My palms grew moist and slick as I looked around. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the location. I was at the place where they’d asked me to meet, but I couldn’t see anybody. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I dialed the number. I gritted my teeth in annoyance when the call was unreachable. My mind started racing with different thoughts. What if someone was just playing a sick prank on me? But I saw a picture of the twins. Or did I waste too much time and they decided to change their minds? God. I was exhausted and scared at the same time. The place was a deserted area. There was nobody I could even ask questions to. After a while, I decided to text the number. [ I am at the location. Where are my kids?] I stared at my phone for a few minutes, but I didn’t get any response. It took everything in me to hold myself back from punching my car’s steering wheel. A few moments later, my phone started buzzing. I hoped it was the kidnappers, b
Chapter 4Julian Cross ~•~ As I stood there looking at her, I couldn’t help but wonder how we got to this point. Everything was perfect between us. I loved her genuinely and I thought she felt the same way about me but I was wrong. Aria was talking like she was innocent. Of course, she would pa
Chapter 3Aria Blake ~•~ “Divorce papers… they’re divorce papers,” Julian replied as he took off his tie. “This isn’t working anymore and it’s best that we go our separate ways.” My eyelids twitched. “This isn’t working anymore?” I repeated with a hint of amusement and confusion in my voice. “Is
Chapter 2Aria Blake ~•~ Tears rolled down my face as I scrolled away and dialed his number. This time it didn’t go to voicemail, the phone was ringing. But Julian was ignoring me intentionally. My chest was tight. After everything we had been through, I couldn’t believe that he would do somet
Chapter 1 Aria Blake ~•~ “He’s not coming back… should I just refrigerate the food for you?” The maid’s voice dragged me out of my thoughts. It was two days after my husband and I’s wedding anniversary. We had been married for three years. Initially, things were going great between us, but all
