I barely recognized myself when I looked into the mirror the next morning.

My eyes were swollen from crying, and no amount of cold water had managed to completely erase the evidence of what had happened in my kitchen the night before. There were faint shadows beneath my eyes, and my face looked exhausted despite the expensive skincare products covering my bathroom counter.

I hated looking weak.

Weakness invited questions, and questions were the last thing I needed.
