Leo did not push further. When he saw they were nearing the main road, he gently suggested, “Do you want to grab a coffee? It might help you unwind.”

Miranda checked the time and shook her head. “I still have work to finish. Another time.”

Leo nodded without pressing her.

They drove down a tree-lined street, sunlight filtering through the leaves across the windshield. Leo glanced at Miranda. She was looking out the window, lost in thought.

“What’s on your mind?” he asked quietly. He genuinely wanted to know what mattered to her, what she cared about.

Miranda blinked out of her thoughts and gave a small smile. “Nothing. Just spacing out.”

He dropped her off at her gate. Miranda turned back with a grateful smile. “Thanks.”

Leo watched her walk inside, and a faint hint of disappointment crossed his expression.
