Chapter 22

Inside the cubicle of a bar.

Etan sat with his legs crossed as he gently swirled a glass of wine in his hand. His face lacked emotion as he watched on his phone the video of Jean insulted by onlookers.

Jason was swapping his finger across the phone screen with light bouncing off his face.

He dialed a number and told others, “Be quiet. I am making a call.”

“Who is it?” The husky voice of a woman responded.

Etan looked over.

Jason crossed and shook his leg. “You must be very desperate now, Jean. Beg me, and maybe I can help you.”

There was a two-second silence on the other end before the reply came. “I will think about it if you want to be my son.”

Etan smirked.

Jason felt insulted. “D*mn you! Don’t you know how deep the sh*t you are in now? No one can help you except me. Your reputation is gone. Yet you still—”

The line went dead before Jason could finish speaking.

That enraged him even more. He tried to call again but found that she had blocked his number.

“This woman doesn’t know her place. Doesn’t she know who I am?”

His confidence was shaken for the first time.

All this while, women flocked to please him en masse. But Jean was different.

Then he made another call.

“It is me. Jean has caused so much damage to your company. Ending her contract and banning her will be too easy on her. Send her a demand letter tonight and claim ten times the damages from her.”

The person on the other end of the phone readily obliged.

Jason hung up and was still fit to be tied. “I shall see how long she can last. How dare she challenge me! I will let her see who the boss is.”

Etan furrowed his brows. “That’s enough. You have wasted too much energy on her.”

Jason couldn’t care less. “Bro, it is just for fun. I wouldn’t have given her a damn if not for her provoking me yesterday. After I get her and have enough fun, I will kick her away. Her future is practically over. She will kneel and beg me. Bro, let’s make a bet: she will climb into my bed on her own in a week.”

Etan threw a card out.

“Let’s bet.”

After Jean hung up, she threw the phone on the sofa, tears flowing. She covered her face with her hands. She just could not stop crying.

She felt as if she had fallen into an abyss, and everyone was trampling her underfoot. Why? Why?

Just then, the doorbell rang.

She wiped away her tears. As she peeked through the peephole, her heart sank. Did those people who had bullied her during the day come again?

The doorbell kept ringing. It seemed that it was not going to stop unless she opened the door.

She gritted her teeth. When she opened the door, she was surprised. It was her dad.

“How do you know I live here?” she asked.

She thought of the videos circulating on the Internet and let out a self-deprecating smile. She realized she was dumb to ask. Information about her had long been exposed online.

Her dad, Robert, had a sullen face. “I have arranged for you to leave the country tonight. Don’t come back again.”
