Chapter 23

“Why should I leave?”

Robert lost his patience. “Don’t you know what situation you are in right now? How am I going to face the public if people know you are my daughter?”

“All you care about is your reputation. You don’t give a damn if those accusations are false.”

“What is the point of talking about it now? If it wasn’t for you to run away from home and to want to become an actress, this thing would not have happened. Just leave now.”

“I am not going to leave!”

She never had the habit of running away before the fight even began.

She would not go anywhere until she found out who the perpetrator was.

“Don’t you have any shame? Just look at what people say about you online. How can you still live your life here?” Robert roared.

She clenched his fists. “I learned all that from you. When my mom was sick, you hooked up with that woman. If you two have any shame, you two wouldn’t have come to her bed and agitated her on purpose.”

“Alana just wanted to apologize to her. She was in good faith.”

“In good faith? Heck! More like she wanted to see Mom dead. My mom would not have killed herself if not for her. You and she are murderers. I should have killed her when I was still a minor.”

Slap!

Robert was furious and slapped Jean.

“She is your stepmom now, for God’s sake!”

Jean’s ear was ringing. She felt dizzy.

She snickered as she raised her head slowly and then wiped off the blood from the corners of her lips.

“I really don’t know if you are really blind or pretending to be blind. You treat that old tart like a queen.”

Robert looked at her red and swollen face and was stunned for a second. But he was still angry when her words came to mind. “Fine, fine. I will leave you alone. But from now on, the Mitchell family will have nothing to do with you.”

“From the moment my mom died, I already have nothing to do with you!” she snapped.

“You had better not regret it!” Robert left and slammed the door shut behind him.

Jean leaned against the wall and slowly slumped to the floor. She curled up into a ball, biting her fingers as tears flowed uncontrollably. But she made not a sound.

Everything had changed. She and her dad could no longer return to the old days ever since Alana came into the picture.

Less than ten minutes after Robert left, someone knocked on the door.

Jean dragged herself up to her feet. Peeking through the peephole, she saw a sea of people outside. Those were paparazzi with cameras in their hands. By the looks of things, they seemed to want to force through her door.

She was terrified and took a step back. How did the paparazzi find her?

Was this the reason Robert warned her not to regret it?
