What's Mine. Lyla Atelo "I'm one of the solicitors for the Oakwood Corporations, you can call me Taylor Ranch." Sage's butler/driver stepped forward and brought stretched out his hand. "You have a nice home." I wondered if Michael recognised him from that night as the man who drove my car back to the house. Stealing a glance at Michael's face, I could tell he couldn't recognise the elderly man. Three other men stood behind Mr. Taylor in well tailored suits. I squinted my eyes and tried to look behind to see... if he had come. "Come inside, please." Michael's voice was pleasant as we stepped out of the way to allow them to enter. When we were all settled into the living room, Michael was the first to strike a conversation. "Well, Mr. Taylor... I'm extremely honoured to be graced by your presence. To be honest, I was still— I still am— dazed by the news that I am the only person selected to have my company invested in by your boss." Maybe it was a trick of the sunlight, but Taylor seemed to grimace after Michael had stated that. "Well... Before we go into such a serious business, can we have dinner while discussing? Fill our bellies while—" Michael nudged me and sent me a warning glance. I could tell that it meant I should behave myself. I cleared my throat in apology and plastered back my fake smile. If he wanted me to play the obedient, I might as well do that. I wouldn't like it if he accused me of being the reason why his business partners disrespect him. "My apologies," He began to clear the air. "My wife and I spent all day preparing dinner and she just can't wait for you all to taste what we have for you. We can talk business and eat later. I'm a man who values my company and—" "All that won't be necessary, Mr. Atelo." Taylor began, shifting forward in his seat. "We have all evening to talk about the contracts and everything. Mrs. Atelo," Taylor turned to me with an easy smile, "We will take your offer to have dinner while we discuss." After grunts, we all proceeded to the dinning table where I proceeded to dish out the different kinds of meals I prepared. "Er erm..." Taylor cleared his throat while signalling to one of his partners who produced a thick booklet. "Mr. Atelo... About the contract and investments in your company. You can go through this document and tell us what you like or don't like." If someone's eyes could shine as bright as the sun, Michael's eyes did that. One look at him and you could easily tell that he was floating in the ninth heavens. He stretched out his hand and collected the document. "I don't need to read through anything, I will just sign it. I trust in your company. I believe..." "Are you sure, Mr. Atelo? You might want to read through that contract." Mr. Taylor said a little too sweetly. It was then I began to worry. I wanted to kick Michael's leg under the table, but it wasn't going to bode well for him. If Mr. Taylor was here to do something concerning my husband, he was likely sent by Sage. And Sage... I didn't know what was on his mind. He was cold, hard and unreadable. What did he want to do to Michael? Why were they suddenly interested in the company? "Mr. Taylor..." I cleared my throat, ignoring the pointed stare that Michael gave me. "What made my husband stand out? Why was he graced with this contract?" Mr. Taylor smiled lightly. "Actually, your husband got granted this opportunity because of you. In all the women that were in attendance, you were the only woman who showed a lot of elegance and grace. You embodied what it meant to be a wife and a mother. That's the reason why." Oh really? I eyed Mr. Taylor who winked at me. Winked? Have I gone blind? "Here it is, Mr. Taylor. I have signed on all places that needed to be signed." Michael stretched the document across the table towards Mr. Taylor. Mr. Taylor collected it, flipping through the pages while nodding in contentment. He gave the document to his nearest companion. "Make sure you give Mr. Atelo his copy of the contract." The man nodded and pushed his seat away from the table, disappearing out of the house and reappearing after five minutes to deliver the documents to Michael. Michael happily collected it. By this time, Mr. Taylor and his partners were done with their meal when they stood up. Michael stood up as well, stretching his hand out for a handshake. "It's really nice doing business with your company." Mr. Taylor laughed heartily. "Thank you, Mr. Atelo. The workmen will be there at 8am to demolish the building. Once everything is done, two million dollars will be transferred to your account." There was a pindrop silence in the room. My entire body went still. Demolish? "Demolish?" Michael was more dumbfounded than the rest of us. "Yes, Mr. Atelo. We will be demolishing your building and destroying everything as stated in that contract, in return, you will be compensated with two million dollars." Mr. Taylor pushed his spectacles over the bridge of his nose. "I had asked you to read it over and over again, but you weren't listening." "B...but... You said you were going to invest in the company over the phone. You said—" "We said that because your wife stood out during dinner last night. But, after reviewing our security footage, we found that it was you who had an uncouth behaviour. Not only that, we dug deeper into your company and we realized that you mismanage a lot of funds. Your company was already on the brink of collapsing, we are just completing it for you. You should be happy... Two million dollars is a great sum of money... And my boss did that for the sake of your wife. He wishes you the best of luck." With that, they were out of the house. An hour later and Michael had not moved from where he stood, clutching the document in his hands. Cold sweat poured from his forehead. He was still shocked. It was at that moment that my phone pinged with a message from an unsaved number. "No One Will Hurt What's Mine And Go Scott Free! Not Even Michael Atelo."Chapter 50The Twist.Lyla Atelo.“I'm not…”“…wealthy enough to purchase this? Of course I know that. Sage gifted this to you, right?” Her eyes were beaming in joy. She didn't look disgusted at all about anything.“What other things did he get for you?” She peered into the box that sat in front of us, trying to rummage through it.“You know I can't accept this, right?” Right now, I needed her support for me to turn down these gifts. It was too much. I couldn't handle something this big.“Why not?” Ivy paused and lifted her head to stare at me with a frown.“It's not right, and you know that.” I tried to stress out, but Ivy didn't seem to be following. “He is… you know, he's my student. I'm his teacher. This kind of thing isn't supposed to be going on between us.”Ivy's eyebrows rose further up and she rolled her eyes. “Take it as a simple gift from a student.”“Simple? You call this simple?” I pointed to the document that still lay on the table. “It's a freaking Jewellery store. Not
Chapter 49A Brand New Owner.Lyla Atelo.Sage wasn't in school for the rest of the week, and today was Friday. I had texted him over and over again, but he never responded. I was tempted to go over to his house, but I didn't want a repeat of the last time.I was currently sitting in my office when the door was forcefully pushed open, and my least favourite person walked into the office.“Hello, Sara.” I folded my hands on my table and sat up to face her squarely. She gave me a once-over before taking in my office as if she had never been here before.“Will Sage be coming for Camp?” She asked outrightly.“Excuse me?”“You heard me right. Or are you dumb?”I choose to ignore her choice of words. “I heard you loud and clear, but what I don't understand is why you're asking me.”“Aren't you the one he's fucking?” She said calmly, not at all fazed by the vulgarity of what she was saying.“If you were remanded in court and asked to prove those allegations, would you be able to?”“Don't you
Chapter 48Naughty Little Slut.Lyla Atelo.I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”“Coordinator?” I
Chapter 47Coming To Camp?Lyla Atelo.I came home with a stupid smile on my face. Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. He wore an apron which suggested that he was cooking.I frowned slightly at the sight of that, while waiting for him to complain that I had come home late.“I'm back, yes.” I smiled a little at him.“And in high spirits as well.” He noted that part, “I hope you had a great day at work.”“I did. How about you?” I shrugged off my shoulder bag which was beginning to get heavy and set it on the table, taking in a deep breath of what he was cooking.“I made dinner. Would you like some?” He noted the actions of my nose before asking, but I shook my head immediately.I knew my husband by now. I could guess what he wanted from me, but I waited for him to say it. Michael never did any nice things for me unless he wanted something in return, and this wasn't
Chapter 46Take Me Home.Lyla Atelo.Sage did not say anything until the car came to a stop in a luxurious shopping mall where he went back to driving mode, parking the car at the exclusive parking lot. He stepped out to open the car for me, taking my arm in his."What are you doing? Where are we going? Why are we here?" I asked him even if I could guess what exactly it was that we were doing here."Shopping." He shrugged. "I saw on the internet that you should take a woman shopping when she is angry. It— ""But I'm not angry. Why would I be?"He gave me a quick look before shutting the car. "Yeah, right, you aren't. But I'm here to apologise anyway."Amidst my protests, Sage had his arms hooked around mine until we reached one of the most expensive jewellery stores in the city."Pick anything you'd like. Diamonds. Gold. Silver. Precious stones. Anything." He said as he signalled one of the sales assistants to come over. The girl gave me a once-over, and she did not hide her displeasu
Chapter 45In The Car.Lyla Atelo."Get In the car, Lyla." Sage's voice came in a little stronger this time as he looked over my shoulders. "Unless you want your colleagues to keep speculating that something is going on between us."Our eyes met when he said that, and I paused to think. Did he also have in mind the same question I had? I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
