Chapter 48

Naughty Little Slut.

Lyla Atelo.

I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and optimistic for some unknown reason. I turned to my side, watching Michael sleep peacefully beside me. I rolled my eyes and began to prepare for school.

“You're quite late today. That's so unlike you.” Dominic, one of my male colleagues, pointed out as we walked side by side down the corridor.

I shrugged. “I slept late, and I woke up late.”

His mouth curved into a small smile, “Your husband kept you up all night, aye?” He teased slightly, and it took all of me not wince at his words.

I forced a smile on my face with a little ‘heh heh’ to avoid the question. “So, are you prepared for the camping experience?”

He understood my discomfort and immediately changed the subject. “I wasn't picked. There are only two male teachers coming while the rest are females. Aren't you aware of this?” He squinted as if trying to remember something. “Seeing that you're the coordinator of the camp?”

“Coordinator?” I backed up in shock. “You must be mistaken. That's Cecelia not me.”

Dominic shook his head with all manner of certainty in his eyes. “I got the memo this morning. Or aren't you aware that Cecelia was switched out? She has even lost her job. I thought you'd know about that. Seeing that…” he trailed off.

“Seeing that what?” I egged him to speak.

“Nevermind.” It was like he saw something scary coming and he bade me goodbye as he began walking away from me.

I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that Sage Dominic had just arrived and was heading towards me. Now, what Dominic, my colleague, had been saying began to make sense. Sage was the one who reportedly had teachers fired, and Cecelia just got fired…

I didn't wait for him to speak before I spun around and threw a question at him. “Did you have Cecelia fired?”

He paused to think for a few seconds. From the corner of my eyes, I could see a few students stopping to watch our interaction. It never got old, and I was both enthralled and uncomfortable by the attention.

“Who is Cecelia?” He asked slowly.

“The teacher you fired yesterday?”

“I don't fire teachers. The principal does.”

“But you give her the orders to do so!”

“I don't. I just tell her that someone is bothering me, and she goes the extra mile to take them out of school. I never ask her to fire them.” He said simply, earning gasps from the students around us.

The corridor was thrown into a low murmur, and I was sure that this news had already reached their group chats.

“Then, was Cecelia bothering you yesterday? Is that why she is gone? Don't you know she is your colleague's favourite teacher? Why would you…?”

“I have never spoken to Mrs. Cecelia before. Never had her classes, nor come across her before. If anything has happened to your teacher friend, speak with Michelle. She handles all of that.”

“Are you guys talking about Mrs. Cecelia?” A fake nasal voice reached my ears and I recognized it instantly as Sara's voice.

Come to think of it. When was the last time I saw her? She was scarce these days. I first looked at the scar on her head, grateful that it was healing.

Sage only raised a brow and didn't answer, but Sara continued speaking anyway.

“I heard she tried to scam a student out of her father's money to pay for the camping trip, and the student saw through her scheme and quickly reported to the principal. She wanted to pocket the money she would siphon from the girl, tricking her into extorting her parents.”

I took a deep breath, knowing the real truth deep within me. Sage knew too, but he chose not to say anything.

“I'll be on my way then. Have a good day, everyone.” I said immediately and turned to head towards my office.

“Sage… hey. I barely see you in school. Would you like to hang out with me later on? I'm having some issues with Elijah. He's your best friend, right? I could use some help from you. He's not in his right mind.”

I could picture her at the back of my mind, pouting and blinking her long eyelashes coquettishly at him. I tried so hard to ignore the aching feeling between my chest. I hated that I felt jealous over a student having a crush on her fellow student… just because I was attracted to that same student.

“Fix your issues yourself.” Sage's voice was cold and clear as day. “Mrs. Lyla, I would like to speak with you privately.”

*

When we were in my office, with the door safely closed behind us, I folded my arms across my chest and stared at Sage whose eyes were intensely focused on me. No matter how much I tried to cover myself from him, his eyes seemed to be peeling every layer off me.

“So… um…” I tried to start the conversation so that things wouldn't get awkward. “Why wouldn't you be coming for the camp? It's a great way to, you know,” I shrugged, trying to come up with the right words, “make bonds, and—”

“I won't be able to keep my hands off you.” He stated simply, his eyes still holding mine.

I gulped at the heat that his eyes carried. The weight of his words was too thick to bear. I felt a trickle of sweat run down my nape.

“What?” I said immediately, almost breathlessly.

The corners of his lips lifted into a small soft smile, but his eyes remained cold. He repeated himself. “I won't be able to keep my hands off you, Lyla. Right now, I want to rip your dress out of you and just… look at you.”

“I…” I was at a loss for words because he kept knocking them out of me. I was breathless. My chest heaving as if I had run out of air, but it was just his words that I was reacting to. “Sage…”

“You know you want it too.” He stood up from where he sat and made his way towards my desk. “I know you want me to do more than what I usually do to your body, Lyla. You're a sweet little thing, but your eyes tell me you want to be more than that. You want to be more than a little thing…”

“What's that?” I was entirely winded as if I had been running a marathon. I could feel my body reacting in some kind of way to the sound of his voice. The way they teased my ears. The way I yearned to know what next came out of those sensual lips of his, and nothing prepared me for it.

“My naughty little slut.” He said, and pulled away immediately.

I instantly missed our proximity, especially the way his cologne wrapped around me like a cloud of comforting smoke. But it was his words that shook me the most. They sounded dirty… but dirty in a good way. I wanted it.

“I want you bent in every way possible, Lyla. But you're not ready for it. And I have to keep my distance until you're ready—”

“Sage, I'm married. I have a husband.” I didn't know what prompted me to blurt that out, but I could see the subtle change of expression on his face.

From the minute he stared across at me till the minute he walked out of the door, I was hitting berating myself at why I had said that. It was stupid. It spoiled the mood and chemistry we were having.

Fuck!

Sage had made my entire evening and I was just smiling like a fool.“You're back," my husband appeared from the corner of the doorway leading to the kitchen. I wanted to ask if there was actually something going on between us, but I didn't dare voice my question out. I didn't want to sound desperate, but still... something that Michelle said earlier egged me at the back of my mind."What do you think about Ivy?" I averted my gaze from his face and looked down to the tarred road. I looked everywhere else but at him. "Is it true you're into older women, and I'm just one of your conquest?"I suddenly felt the cold night wind hit my skin, and I looked up in alarm to see Sage backing away from him. He stared at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher before spinning his car key between his thumb and index finger.
