Chapter 26 — Ofiura's POV

"Tell me you found something concrete this time."

Nikolai's office felt different at night, quieter, the city lights spread out below the window like something neither of us had the attention to appreciate properly. Dante stood near the desk with a folder in hand, his usual composure sitting a little tighter than normal.

"Concrete enough." Dante set the folder down and opened it, sliding a photograph across the desk. "This is one of Damon's palace guards. Theo Marsh. S

Chapter 32 — Ofiura's POV"There's more. Near the back. I think this is where it ends."I said it quietly, Nikolai still beside me on the floor, the candles burned lower now, the night having slipped past us both without either of us noticing. I turned the last several pages carefully, the paper thinner here, my grandmother's handwriting almost frantic in places, like she'd known she was running out of time to say everything she needed to say."'I am sealing her tomorrow,'" I read, my voice unsteady. "'I have delayed as long as I can justify delaying. The vision returns every time I close my eyes now the blood, the wolves, the pack torn apart around a woman who does not yet know her own name. I still cannot see which side of it she stands on. I have asked the Goddess for clarity more times than I can count, and the only answer I have ever received is silence.'"Nikolai's hand found mine, steady, grounding me against the weight of the words."'So I will seal her, and I will pray that

Chapter 31 — Ofiura's POV"Read it out loud. I want to understand this with you, not just hear about it after."Nikolai sat across from me on my living room floor, the journal open between us, candles lit because the overhead light had felt too harsh for something this fragile. I'd put off reading it properly for weeks, some instinctive part of me afraid of what I might find, but after Patricia's room, after the baby settling strange and familiar against my chest, I couldn't justify the delay any longer."Some of it's hard to read. Her handwriting gets worse the more frightened she was.""Take your time."I turned past the first entry, the one about the vision, and found the next readable passage several pages later, the handwriting steadier here, more deliberate."'I have decided,'" I read slowly, "'that the sealing must happen before her fourth birthday. I have tested the binding on myself first, to be certain it will not harm her, though the testing has cost me more than I expecte

  • My Alpha Husband Chose His Mistress,I Became His Rival'sLuna   Chapter 30 — Ofiura's POV

Chapter 30 — Ofiura's POV"What do you two want?"Patricia opened the door to her room only partway, the baby's cries audible somewhere behind her, her face pale and drawn in a way the hospital lighting hadn't fully shown me weeks ago. She looked between Nikolai and me with open suspicion, no trace of the smug confidence she'd worn at that first banquet."We wanted to see how you're settling in," Nikolai said smoothly, the particular diplomatic tone he used for negotiations. "And to see the baby, if you're willing.""Why would either of you care about the baby?""Because he's innocent in whatever's happening around him." I kept my voice gentle, deliberately so, watching her reaction carefully. "Regardless of anything else, he didn't choose any of this."Something flickered across her face—surprise, maybe, that I'd say something kind instead of using the opportunity to twist the knife the way she'd once twisted hers at me. She hesitated, then stepped back, letting us into a room that

  • My Alpha Husband Chose His Mistress,I Became His Rival'sLuna   Chapter 29 — Damon's POV

Chapter 29 — Damon's POV"You're going to inherit everything I built, and you're going to do it right."My father said it to me the week before my wedding, standing in his study with a glass of something expensive in his hand, the particular pride in his voice that I'd spent my whole life chasing and rarely earning. "Ofiura's family brings stability. Her father's business, her bloodline, her discretion. You've chosen well, Damon. For once."I remember believing him completely. I remember standing at the altar three years ago thinking I'd finally done something right, something that would make the Blackthorn name mean more than it had under my father's careful, calculating leadership. I remember Ofiura in white, steady and composed even then, already managing the wedding logistics better than the planner we'd paid a fortune to hire.I didn't appreciate her. I understand that now, somewhere in the wreckage of everything I've lost since. I didn't appreciate her the way a man appreciates

  • My Alpha Husband Chose His Mistress,I Became His Rival'sLuna   Chapter 28 — Ofiura's POV

Chapter 28 — Ofiura's POV"He's drinking before noon now. Every day."Rowan said it quietly, catching me in the Ashwood lobby on his third day as a new hire, his voice carrying none of the satisfaction I might have expected from a man watching his old boss fall apart. Just tired concern, the particular weariness of someone who'd spent six years invested in a man he no longer recognized."I'm not sure why you're telling me this.""Because I think you're the only person who'd actually care, underneath everything." He shifted uncomfortably. "Helena's barely holding the household together. The baby cries constantly colic, apparently, though half the staff whispers it's because something's wrong that none of them can name. Patricia barely leaves her room. And Damon just sits in his study most days, staring at nothing."I felt an unexpected pull of something almost like pity, quickly suppressed. "That's not my responsibility anymore.""I know. I'm not asking you to fix it." Rowan held up h

  • My Alpha Husband Chose His Mistress,I Became His Rival'sLuna   Chapter 27 — Ofiura's POV

Chapter 27 — Ofiura's POV"It's a dead end."Dante said it with the particular frustration of a man who didn't enjoy admitting defeat, setting a thinner folder on Nikolai's desk than the one from two nights ago. "The account that paid Theo Marsh routes through three shell companies before it disappears entirely into an offshore structure. Whoever set this up knew exactly what they were doing. This isn't a jealous woman hiding a few payments from her husband. This is professional.""How professional?" I asked, leaning forward."The kind of professional that costs real money to set up and real expertise to maintain." Dante's jaw tightened. "I've traced plenty of hidden accounts in my time. I've never hit a wall this clean this fast."Nikolai studied the folder in silence for a long moment, something calculating behind his eyes. "Keep at it. Slowly, carefully. Whoever built this expects people to stop looking once they hit the first wall. We won't.""Understood." Dante gathered the folde
