Chapter 3

I didn’t wake up until midnight. My stomach felt so empty. Probably because I hadn’t eaten anything all day.

I went to the kitchen to find something to eat.

I was surprised when I found Alex at home too.

Ever since he has bought that apartment for Victoria, he merely lived at home anymore.

I knew they lived there together.

Sometimes, Victoria would ask him to say the night or. they would invite friends over to that apartment. And lately, he had been staying away longer and longer.

I had the empty mansion to myself.

He had his good time in that apartment with Victoria.

Looking at Alex, I felt like it was a bit strange to see him here.

He leaned against the sofa.

When he saw me, he sat up instantly.

I had no intention of talking to him, especially after what happened in the company today.

But as I walked to the kitchen, he suddenly grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer.

He touched my arms and said, “Kate, have you been losing weight lately? How did you get so thin?”

I looked into his eyes.

He hadn’t spoken to me in such a gentle tone in a long time.

I knew this was all fake.

His heart was with Victoria. I could feel our mate bond weakening.

I pulled my hand back.

“Alex, stop pretending!”

He was a bit shocked at my reaction.

I could feel that he became angrier by the second.

I walked over to the dining table. I saw a cake with candles on it.

He remembered as well.

That was the Frostpaw Snow Cake. Just like the one we shared years ago.

I suddenly realized the call earlier form Alex hadn’t been a dream.

It was really Alex.

Somehow, I felt a little nervous.

He hasn’t been this way with me for years.

I mentioned I wanted the cake. And there was it.

What did this even mean?

Did he want to make up with me?

But I was dying from the wolf venom in me. I didn’t even know how much longer I have to live. What I need now wasn’t this piece of cake, I need him to truly love me and take the risk for me to get the antidote.

Of course, that was impossible.

Then I touched my belly. Maybe it was the effect from the herb earlier, I could almost feel the little pup moving inside me.

I thought about how I might not make it to give birth to our pup. I felt so depressed.

I grabbed the cake with my hands and threw it into the trash can.

Alex looked furious.

He knocked me down and pressed me to the ground.

“Kate, are you messing with me? Do you find this funny?”

I laughed loudly on purpose.

“What’s wrong, Alex? Can’t I do this to you? I said I wanted the cake, and you went to buy it for me. You are just like who you were years ago, like a little dog to me, wagging your tail to please me! I guess you still do whatever I say, don’t you?”

I said all these awful words just to hurt him.

I even saw a red glow flashed in his pupils.

Alex picked me up and teleported us into the bedroom.

He threw me onto our king-size bed.

I felt a pain at the back of my head. Alex must have been drive mad with anger. He tore off his shirt.

He leaned down and kissed my lips roughly.

I could feel his fangs cutting my lip.

“That hurts!”

I pushed him away with all my strength.

To my surprise, I was still strong enough to do that. He crashed into the TV behind him. It shattered.

“Alex, don’t you touch me! You are with Victoria now! I don’t want your dirty paws anywhere near me!”

Alex got closer to me again.

He quickly put his fangs around my artery. I took a deep breath.

He didn’t bite down on me. But I became nervous.

Alex whispered in my ear, “I just want to be good to me, that’s all. Can’t you be?”

He went on, “Did you know why I brought all of those lovers home? I wanted you to show me that you cared. Did you know how happy I was? When I heard you say you wanted the cake? That cafe closed ages ago. I tracked down the baker to have him make it for you, specially. And you just played me?”

Alex lifted his head to look at me.

I saw his eyes turn red. There were tears in them.

I almost left my tears down too.

There, we looked into each other’s eyes.

Neither of us spoke. Neither of us moved.

After a while, Alex’s lips moved closer to mine. Our breaths grew heavier.

Suddenly, his cellphone rang. It was his dear Victoria.

I looked at Alex, almost silently begging him not to answer.

He still picked up the phone. I heard Victoria’s voice right away.

Victoria was crying and said, “Alex, are you going to break up with me for Kate? You said you liked me, remember? I don’t even know where I am! I had a feel wolf cocktail. I feel so dizzy. There are some werewolves from other packs around me.”

“Alex, please come and find me. I don’t even know who they are. Someone just hit on me.”

“Alex, please! Can you come and pick me up? I am lost. I can’t find my way home!”

Alex didn’t say a word.

He just stared at me.

Then he pulled the phone away from his ear and asked me, “Kate, be honest with me, do you want me to stay? If you do, beg me. Just beg me to stay, and I will.”

Alex seemed to have forgotten. A long time ago, after he chose me to be his Luna Queen, I once put aside all my pride and begged him too.

I asked, “Alex, what exactly happened to us?”

“Alex, can’t we talk? Could you stop all the drama?”

“Alex, can’t we just be together? Will you be nice to me again?”

I remembered that day. Too clearly.

Alex had a she-wolf in his arms and smiled.

“Kate. Don’t be silly. Go home. You don’t deserve to talk about these to me.”

I still remembered those cold words out of his mouth.

So today, I wanted to give them back to him.

I grabbed his shoulder. We were so close.

“Alex, go back to your own home. Don’t be silly. You don’t deserve to talk about these to me either.”

Alex lowered his head and let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh.

He took the phone back to his ear.

“Victoria, wait for me. I am coming to get you right away. We are going home.”

Alex teleported out, slamming the door as he left.

He didn’t even look at me again.
