Chapter 4

Author: Grace Heal
Dylan looked at Joanna firmly.

“I told you, we wouldn’t rush into having pups! This is Ella’s choice. You can’t force her.”

In that moment, I even felt he was protecting me.

But it was all too late.

My wound split open. Blood soaked through my dress.

I had lost too much blood. My vision started to blur, then I fainted.

The last thing I saw was Dylan’s burred figure. He held me tightly and called my name.

“Ella, I love you. Don’t you leave me…”

When I woke up, I found myself in the Wind Ripping pack’s healer’s home. Tanya was an old friend of my mother-wolf’s once.

She told Dylan, “You did the right thing taking her here. The wounds on her back are deep.”

Dylan signed, “Please the best herbs you have. I will pay you no matter how much it costs.”

Dylan turned around and noticed I was awake. To my surprise, he looked worried.

“Are you feeling okay?”

I tried to move, but I could feel a burning pain on my back.

“Why are you even here? I’m sure someone else needs you more.”

I thought he would turn around and leave, but he didn’t. I could also tell that he looked at me with complicated emotions.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were hurt this badly?”

“You were busy with Eleanor. If I had called you, would you have come immediately?”

“Of course I would,” he said.

His answer wasn’t what I had expected.

“Ella, trust me this time. I will stay here and take care of you tonight.”

For once, Dylan actually kept his word. He didn’t leave.

He carefully changed my bandages, prepared my meals and rushed to find Tanya for more pain-relieving herbs when I had the backache.

At night, he lied down gently beside me to keep me company. It almost felt like the best time we had ever shared.

But I knew in my heart this wouldn’t last.

Tanya’s treatment worked well, and I felt much better the next morning.

When Dylan helped change the bandages, I showed him how much better my wounds looked.

Dylan’s hands ran over my back, then suddenly froze. When our eyes met, I could see that his eyes were filled with lust. He hadn’t looked at me like that for quite a long time.

Dylan leaned down to me.

He slowly pressed me back onto the bed. Just as his lips were about to meet mine, I heard a crash.

I turned to see Eleanor standing by the door.

She looked so disappointed. The bowl of werewolf’s stew she had been holding had fallen to the floor. The bowl shattered into pieces. The werewolf’s stew splashed everywhere.

Eleanor stood there, as if she were the Luna and I was the one cheated with Dylan.

"I'm sorry. Am I disturbing something? Ella, Dylan had already spent so much time taking care of you! I needed him as well. How could you do this to us?!”

Joanna saw me and she fell to her knees. She cried and said, “I’m so sorry, Ella! I was blind to trust Eleanor. Please come back to us!”I shook my head and showed her the scar on my wrist.“Don’t you remember? You did this to me. You also said I was not good enough for Dylan, that I could only be his tool. Now I want to give those words back to you.”“It is all Eleanor’s fault! She ruined us!” she screamed.I asked, “Do you really think it is all her fault? Was Dylan not the one trusting her? You all knew what was happening, you just let it happen. I have paid for your treatment. I came because

He smiled at me and said, “Hello. I’m Pamela’s brother, James. I was a lawyer specializing in protecting women’s rights abroad and just returned home.”James held out his hand, I shook it.His large palm felt warm when he grasped mine.“I heard about your healing methods even overseas,” he continued. “You’ve helped so many werewolves. Especially your new therapy, it has truly changed how we address harm to she-wolves during pregnancy.”I looked at him.Someone actually noticed these small adjustments I made.I was so surprised.“Do you have an interest in herbalism and healing too, James?” I asked.“I just think herbs are beautiful, and the healing process is too,” he said. “They can make so many wounds recover again, though some never fully heal.”He was looking at a scar on my wrist, left by Dylan’s mother, Joanna.I subtly pulled my hand back.Over the next few months, James often asked me out for tea. When my company’s products faced negative news, he acted as our legal counsel to

“The Alpha and the Luna? Don’t be silly. You said our mate bond was just a business arrangement. Why are you taking it so seriously now? Your problems are yours, not mine.”Security dragged him out.Pamela ordered them to stop him from entering ever again. My company’s herbal potion sold extremely well after its launch, with sales exceeding $1 billion in no time. Not only that, I also established a herbal medicine foundation to help she-wolves who wanted to start their own herbal businesses independently, including former housewives, achieve financial freedom and independence.I heard that Dylan’s family had nowhere to live. He also tried to move back to my father-wolf's mansion.I had already changed all the locks. I didn’t know how he got in, but my bodyguards throw him out.Everything belonging to Dylan’s family was auctioned off. He was no longer the Alpha of the pack. Some werewolf told me the Dylan could barely afford to pay the electricity and water bills. He could only do part-

I had never treated him like this before.Dylan stared at me in shock, a red mark appearing on his cheek. My palm also hurt, but I didn’t regret it.My friend spoke up for me, but he thought we were lying and framing Eleanor? He was truly insane.Dylan’s eyes turned red and said, “How could you do this to me? Eleanor is different, she only has me now. Why can’t you just understand?”Pamela pulled out her cellphone, showing Dylan several photos.“She told you her parents passed away. That’s all a lie. Her parents have been living well abroad these years. She told you she was all alone. Also, a lie. She has hopped between Alphas of various packs. She stole all their assets, just like what she did to you. She only came back to you because those werewolves are after her. Your money is going to pay off her debts. Wake up!”Dylan held the phone, staring at Eleanor in shock. “This isn’t true.”Pamela said, “Check for yourself if it’s true. Stop making a fool of yourself here.”Dylan slowly tu

He wore the black tuxedo I had bought him.He had never worn the same tuxedo twice in public before. His financial troubles must be worse than I thought. He hadn’t noticed me yet. Next to him was Eleanor, in a pale blue dress. They both looked so proud. But when they saw me, they froze.Dylan suddenly shook off Eleanor’s arm and walked toward me.“Ella? What are you doing here?”I was confident. “Long time no see, Dylan. Why couldn’t I be here?”“I called you so many times. Why didn’t you answer? Are you still avoiding me?”I smiled, picking up a glass of champagne from a waiter’s tray.“Our mate bond ended months ago. Why would I avoid you? I just don’t want to see you anymore.”Eleanor hurried over, clinging to Dylan’s arm again.“Well, Ella. It is you! How did you get in here? This isn’t the place you should be. You don’t belong here, do you?”“I was invited. Not sure how you got in, though.”Eleanor smirked and said, “Let me guess. You have no money after leaving Dylan. So, you are

I knew he was talking about me, but I didn’t admit it.“Is that why you called?”He scoffed and said, “Forget it. I thought maybe this star healer was you, apparently, she’s pretty good. Guess I was overthinking. It can’t be you.”“Why are you calling me?”“My company is in trouble. The herbal potion production line I funded for Eleanor is now $1.2 billion in debt. The bank just told me they’re freezing our liquidity.”I had heard about this from the elders in Dylan’s pack. After I left, Eleanor kept bragging about her “unique talent” for herbal potion-making and pushed Dylan to launch her own brand.Dylan said yes without a second thought. But Eleanor’s so-called “talent” was just stolen formulas. She had no idea those formulas needed countless experiments and experience to get the ratios right. No wonder her potions tanked in the market. After that, investors wanted to pull out, and Dylan’s cash flow dried up.“I’m going to mortgage our assets to get through this. I need your signatu
