Drake's POV

I stopped right in front of him.

Maxwell did not flinch. He did not even look startled.

That already irritated me.

For a brief second, I stared at him, my expression steely, my wolf still restless under my skin from the abrupt change.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice low but under control.

Maxwell put his hands into his pockets, his posture loose like he wasn't standing in front of someone obviously anxious.

“I came to visit someone,” he said quietly.

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 150

Betsy’s POVThe instant Peter left me, I saw the little relief his presence had offered start to evaporate.I gathered my things to settle down before the professor arrived and I moved toward my desk.Matteo.I had grown more powerful. I was aware of that. But Matteo still had a knack for making the air around him feel tense. He began walking toward me deliberately, his eyes locked on me as though he had all the time in the world.I stood where I was.I decided not to step back.He angled his head a little when he stopped in front of me and eyed me as though he had arrived for a calm conversation, which only made me doubt him more.“So,” Matteo said to me, “I waited for you to come and say thank you.”I frowned at him.“Thanks for what?” I asked, though I already understood his intention. He gave a little grin that didn't spread to his eyes.“For helping you,” he responded. You wouldn't be here now if I weren’t involved. My fingertips gripped the margin of my notepad somewhat tighter.

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 149

Betsy's POVPeter was standing at the far end of the class, grinning at me.I moved very fast to where he stood and wrapped my arms around him and clung to him closely. Peter laughed quietly, but I could feel the astonishment in the way his body tensed for one second before he let go and embraced me back.“Wow, I go for a short time, and all of a sudden I welcome hugs like these ." I backed off a bit and gazed at him.“When did you return?” I asked swiftly. “And why have you returned? I thought you were still with your mother.”“I arrived not too long ago,” he answered. “Drake told me everything that happened.”My smile drifted somewhat at that.Everything.That word weighed too much.Given that Peter's own softened somewhat, he must have seen the shift in my expression.“He told me enough, enough for me to realize I had to come back and meet you myself.”Not knowing what to say, I stared at him for a while. There was something soothing in seeing him again. Peter had integrated hims

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 148

Betsy's POVAt first, returning entirely to school following everything that had happened to me felt odd, but after a few days, life slowly started to seem regular once more.I was in class that day, seated quietly with my notebook open in front of me. The room buzzed with the typical subdued chatter of students, and the lecturer had not yet arrived. Some were laughing over something on the phone. Some were working on note revisions. Others were biding their time.Though my head wasn't completely there, I was trying my hardest to concentrate on the material at hand. Twice I had written the same sentence unaware. That was the moment I detected someone stopping close to my table.I looked up.It was Vivian.“I have to confess; you have made great headway.” Grabbing three guys to your side all at once is not a trivial accomplishment. I'm astounded.I stared at her for one second.Next, I glanced again at my notebook.I wasn't going to grant her that contentment.I then turned a page in

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 147

Betsy's POVDrake.I flung my arms around him and pushed myself up more quickly than I should have, before he could even approach the bed or speak.I hugged him very closely, so firmly I almost lost awareness of my ongoing frailty.“I missed you so much.” “I thought I wouldn't see you once more.”He held me back right away, one arm tight around me as if he was worried I would vanish if he loosened his grip. Before he even said anything, I could feel the rigidity in his body.“I apologize,” he whispered. “I am truly sorry, Betsy. Perhaps none of this would have happened if I had not pushed you away that day.I pulled back just enough to see him. His guilt-laden expression alone made my chest clench. Though he was someone who easily let others see his frailty, it was there today, raw and open in his eyes.I shook my head at him at once.“No,” I replied. “Do not treat yourself like that.”His eyebrows came together.“But….” “No,” I replied, softer this time. “You shouldn't feel responsi

  • My Alpha, My Mate, My Ruin.   Chapter 146

Betsy's POVThough it was challenging at first, I gradually opened my eyes. I could not see clearly, and my lids felt heavy. I blinked once, then once more, struggling to correct my vision. For a few seconds, I couldn’t see anything clearly. My head felt heavy as well, and my body was feeble in a manner I had never experienced before, as though all the strength in me had been pulled away. The first face I saw as my eyesight gradually cleared was Nick's.“Betsy,” Nick said to me, his tone muted but filled with concern. “You're awake."I opened my mouth to respond, but my throat was parched. Even speaking seemed weird. I turned my eyes away from him and gently glanced across the room. That's when I realized Nick wasn't the only one at the scene.Maxwell was standing by one corner of the space. My gaze changed once again, this time seeing Matteo as well.I slightly frowned and tried to get up.“Don't do that,” Nick said to me at once. “You should rest.”Still, what he was saying hardly
