Chapter 2

Author: Asteria
I felt Oliver's tense muscles relax the instant the words left my mouth.

He held my gaze, then leaned in.

I reached up, wrapped my arms around the back of his neck, and kissed him first.

The hall erupted with whistles and cheers.

These wolves might have seen Julian hook up with plenty of she-wolves before, but they had never expected me to be the one boldly kissing another male wolf, especially not Oliver, the cold, untouchable Alpha of the powerful Frostmoon pack.

Yet the cheers gradually died down. I couldn't afford to wonder why, because Oliver was kissing me with surprising intensity.

His hand gripped my waist, pulling me closer as the kiss deepened, growing hotter and more demanding with every second. I could barely breathe by the time the thirty seconds ended.

When I finally pulled back, the entire room had fallen strangely silent.

Julian's face was thunderous.

Oliver gently wiped the moisture from the corner of my lips with his thumb.

"What's going on with everyone?" I asked, feigning confusion as I looked around. "Didn't I finish the penalty?"

Violet recovered first and forced a smile.

"Looks like amnesia didn’t kill your craving for your boyfriend."

Julian's expression darkened even further.

I pretended not to notice and excused myself to the restroom.

As I reached the turn in the staircase, I overheard voices from below.

"Oliver, I told you not to touch her," Julian said coldly. "You went too far just now."

Oliver leaned casually against the railing, his tone relaxed.

"It was only a game. Besides, was she supposed to ignore her so-called boyfriend and kiss you while you had another she-wolf in your arms? That would've looked even stranger. And don't forget, you're the one who asked me to play her boyfriend."

Julian was quiet for a few seconds.

"Fine. Just be more careful next time. I don't think you'd actually be interested in her, let alone sleep with her, but try to avoid anything too intimate."

"After all..." Julian gave a soft, mocking laugh. "You've always hated her, right? Asking you to stay by her side like this is already unfair. I feel bad about putting you through it."

Oliver let out a low chuckle.

"Heh. You know me too well."

Back at the villa, I had just turned toward my room when Oliver suddenly pulled me close and kissed me.

"Mmm..."

I instinctively tried to pull away, but his arm wrapped firmly around my waist, holding me in place.

When he finally drew back, his long fingers gently brushed my cheek. His voice was low and deep.

"Today, we feel a little more familiar than yesterday, don't we?"

Once again, his actions completely contradicted what Julian had told him.

I stared at him, more confused than ever. I couldn't figure Oliver out anymore.

From the moment Julian introduced me to his circle of young masters and Alphas from the most prestigious packs, everyone could tell Oliver disliked me.

He had never approved of my relationship with Julian, probably because I was just an ordinary she-wolf from a declining pack. Every time we crossed paths, he would throw cold, sarcastic remarks my way. So I had always avoided him whenever possible.

But now, after Julian used my "amnesia" as an excuse to push me into Oliver's care, Oliver kept crossing lines he never should have.

What was he trying to do?

Was this his way of getting revenge for Julian forcing me on him?

After graduating with a design degree, I worked as a freelance designer. Most days, I stayed in the villa working on my sketches.

Oliver knocked lightly on the study door and invited me to a fireworks show by the lake tonight.

"Enough work for today. Come get some fresh air with me."

By the time we reached the lakeside, night had fallen and the shore was crowded with wolves. The best viewing spot was already occupied by two familiar figures.

Julian and Violet.

They stood side by side under the colorful bursts of fireworks.

Violet suddenly rose onto her toes and kissed Julian on the lips, beaming like a kid who had just received candy.

Julian looked down at her with gentle eyes and playfully tapped the tip of her nose.

Then he turned his head and saw us.

Behind us came Julian's heart-wrenching cry."Isabella!"In that moment, he finally understood that he had truly lost me forever. There would never be another chance.Back at the villa, Oliver immediately checked me for any injuries.I let him. Only after confirming I was completely unharmed did he finally relax, pulling me close and pressing a kiss to my lips."Isabella. I love you.""No matter what kind of Isabella you are, I love you.""I won't ask you to give me all your feelings right away.""Even if you can never love me the way you once loved Julian, I will still be content.""I will be loyal and clean. I will give you everything I have.""Will you become my Luna?"He dropped to one knee and took out a ring. An ancient moonstone had been carved into the shape of a full moon, glowing with soft light.Inside the band were the words: Forever My Mate.I stared at him."That day in the cherry orchard...you heard my conversation with Violet?"He nodded.I smiled. So the mantis stalks

Julian's body swayed violently. The last shred of hope shattered."Isabella..."Beside me, Oliver simply lowered his eyes, as if he had expected this all along.Violet watched Julian's expression and laughed until tears streamed down her face.I looked at Julian again."Actually, if you had waited just one more second that day, I would have laughed and told you I was only joking with you.""But you couldn't even wait one second. You were so eager to deny our relationship and push Oliver toward me yourself."Julian stumbled backward, shaking his head frantically."No...Isabella...it's not like that...""I still gave you chances afterward. If you had realized your mistake in time, I would have let it go.""But what did you do? You made another male wolf my boyfriend, then kissed Violet right in front of me and lit up the entire night sky with fireworks for her, just as you once did for me."With every word I had kept buried, my heart finally settled into peace."So, Julian...""I finally

"Ah!"I startled and scrambled backward. But Violet seemed to have lost all reason, swinging the knife at me again and again."Violet! Have you lost your mind?""Is throwing away the rest of your life for a male wolf really worth it?"I raised my arm to block, only to find that the blade retracted the moment it touched my skin.It was a retractable prop knife. In that same instant, two panicked voices rang out at once."Isabella!""Isabella!"Oliver and Julian rushed over to me.Oliver was faster. He pulled me into his arms and shielded me with his own body.Julian kicked Violet hard, sending her sprawling."Ah!"She crashed to the ground, the knife flying far away.Once Julian confirmed I was unharmed, a terrifying rage surged through him. He lifted his foot, ready to kick her again."Julian, stop! It was a prop knife, it didn't hurt me!" I shouted quickly.Julian froze mid-motion.Oliver held me tightly, checking every inch of me for injuries. Only when he was certain I was completel

"Oliver, you bastard!"Julian clenched his fists and strode forward, his rage barely under control.Oliver shielded me behind him, his voice full of warning."Julian, do you think losing control will get you what you want?""The only reason you can still appear in front of Isabella is because she still doesn't know what kind of wolf you really are.""If you keep harassing her, she'll only grow more afraid of you. And I will make sure you never get another chance to approach her.""I don't mind ending our friendship, or cutting ties with the entire circle, if it comes to that."Julian was stunned. He understood. If he revealed the truth today, I would likely despise him completely. If he pushed any further and the situation became unmanageable, Oliver would truly destroy every relationship involved. At that point, even seeing me once would become impossible.Julian's eyes turned bloodshot as he watched Oliver take my hand and lead me into the car.I turned to look at the male wolf drivi

Lately, Julian spent most of his time at the hospital. Violet posted many photos showing him bringing her flowers, food, and carefully looking after her, each one radiating happiness.I had once loved Julian, so seeing the male wolf who pushed me into Oliver's arms still affected my mood from time to time.Still, I was glad he had something new to occupy him. It meant I didn't have to see him.My own life had been going well. My interior design work had just won an international award. On the day of the ceremony, I stood at the center of the stage and accepted my trophy under the bright lights and thunderous applause. When I first submitted the piece, I had told Julian, "If I ever win an award, I want to share the moment with you first."He had answered casually, "One of my friends has a birthday that day. We'll talk about it then."Yet today, he actually came.Trophy in hand, I walked down from the stage and ran toward him.Julian's eyes lit up. He hurried forward excitedly. But I pas

Violet and I walked out of the cherry orchard carrying baskets full of cherries.Oliver strode toward me and naturally took the basket from my hands."What took you so long? I couldn't help coming to look for you."As he spoke, he casually slipped an arm around my shoulders and led me back toward the villa.I could feel Violet's gaze fixed on us the entire time, more specifically, on Oliver. She was probably wondering why that famously cold and distant Alpha was being so gentle with me.Julian hurried over as well.He didn't even glance at Violet. His dark eyes were locked solely on Oliver, full of suppressed anger.I looked at him with confusion, as if I had no idea what was going on.Suddenly, Julian stepped in front of me."Isabella, there's a riding club nearby. You used to say you wanted to go horseback riding. Let me take you later."I turned to Oliver."Did I really say that before? Then take me."Oliver looked down at me, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly."Alright. But
