تسجيل الدخولOne dare. Sierra Jones is the good girl; quiet and obedient, always following the rules. Until one drunken dare at a bar throws her into the arms of a stranger she was never supposed to see again. She doesn’t get his name, and she doesn’t think she needs it because it was only a one night stand. Until she finds out she’s pregnant. And the stranger turns out to be Nathaniel Sterling, her ruthless, filthy rich CEO, already engaged to a woman as dangerous as she is jealous. He wants the problem gone but she refuses to get rid of the child. So he buys her silence instead, offering money for her baby’s existence and a signature that erases him as a father, sealing a hush-hush deal that’s supposed to end it all. Years later, Sierra has rebuilt everything on her own terms; she’s done with billionaires, heartbreak, and men who choose ambition over her. Then she meets Richard who is older and powerful, devastatingly charming in a way that makes her forget every rule she swore to live by. There’s just one problem. He’s Nathaniel’s father. What starts as forbidden slowly becomes a realization: she is not the good girl she always thought she was. What should end in scandal becomes something neither of them can walk away from. Even as Nathaniel’s jealous brother circles like a shark, looking for any secret that could destroy Nathaniel, even as the friend Sierra trusted most quietly sharpens the knife meant for her back, Sierra sits pretty in the middle of it all. The secret won’t stay buried forever, and when it finally explodes, it won’t just expose Sierra. It’ll bring an empire to its knees.

“Oh my God, this party is so boring.”
I sipped from my champagne flute as I looked around the room. Soft pop music played in the background as Mark from HR tried to get everyone’s attention.
“Urgh, we need to get out of here,” Monica grumbled beside me again.
I haven’t been to many parties so I couldn’t tell a good one from a bad one; either way, I had a plan of my own. I had been working as a Junior Brand Executive for almost five years at Sterling Group and I just knew it was time for a promotion.
I mean, just last month, Gina, the brand exec, dumped her project on me on short notice but I was able to do it on time. I heard the board loved it and Gina was looking good for a promotion.
Meaning this was my chance to level up and aim for Brand Executive. I didn’t care if I had to do Gina’s work for her as long as I got to move up the ladder.
To do this, I had to warm up to Gina and Mark, see if they could put in a good word or two for me.
“Hey, Sierra.”
“Huh?”
“I just spoke to Catherine and the girls in Accounting; we’re going to ditch this place in ten. You’re coming with us.”
“But I need to talk to Gina and Mark.”
“You can talk to Gina and Mark some other time, what you truly need is to go have fun. I mean, you just won best employee of the year in our department, that’s something to celebrate, right?”
I guess it was.
“Oh…it’s happening right now,” Monica gasped excitedly, “Catherine is giving me the signal, let’s go!”
I barely had time to grab my purse and drop the champagne flute on the table before Monica snatched me up and we made our way out of the hall.
Outside, the cool air hit my face and I wrapped my arms around myself. The coat was hardly keeping the cold away.
“Taxi!”
“Where are we going?” I asked Monica as she stopped a cab. There were three other girls with Catherine that I vaguely recognized.
“There’s this bar at Monet?” Catherine was saying, “I heard it’s a bar slash strip club!”
The girls hooted excitedly. “And that is where we will be headed to!” Monica said to me, then to the cab driver.
A strip club that was also a bar? What in the world was that? I’d lived in Meridian City for a while and I’d never heard of that before.
“Get in, get in!”
We all piled into the cab and I didn’t mind that there were five of us all mushed up at the back; the warmth was inviting.
“Hey, ladies! Anybody have some candy?” Catherine called from the passenger seat.
“You know I do!” Monica announced.
“Pass them around, girl.”
I watched as Monica pulled out a tiny white plastic bag and dropped little blue pills in everyone’s hands. She turned to me and gave me one.
“Uh…no, I don’t think—”
“Come on, don’t be a party pooper. Look, it’s okay, see?” She dropped one on her tongue and it disappeared into her mouth. “That’s all. It’s nothing strong, I promise.”
Everything in me told me not to take it, but then again I didn’t want to be a party pooper. Monica was right; I barely ever had any fun.
I took a pill from her hand before I could convince myself to stop, then I swallowed.
“Whoooo! Let’s get this party started!”
The girls whooped along and I smiled slightly. How could they be so carefree? Sometimes I wished I could be that way, but I was always too self-conscious.
But maybe this was my chance. Today, I could try to be someone else; someone different from myself.
I mean, I just popped a pill; that had to count as the first step.
We arrived at our destination and as we spilled out of the car, I came face to face with a tall building. It didn’t look like a bar.
Maybe it was a private bar?
“Are you sure this is the place?” Monica asked Catherine after paying the cab man.
Catherine started to walk. “Trust me, ladies. Come on.”
Monica held my arm as if she could read my thoughts on how I wanted to run after the taxi that brought us here and beg the driver to take me home.
Inside the, lights were low with flashes of green and blue. You know the kind that makes everyone look so sexy you just want to put them on the table and rip their clothes off?
Wait. Hold on. Were the pills working already?
I turned to Monica and I’m sure I was wide eyed because she had a look of concern.
“What? Are you alright?”
I wanted to say that I thought I was tripping, instead I heard myself say, “Monica, I think I need to get laid, like…in like the bathroom.”
Monica started to laugh. “That sounds like candy talking and I love it!” She laughed again and led me towards a table where all the girls were.
I was suddenly feeling so hot. I peeled the coat off my body, sighing.
“Hey girls,” Monica said, “Sierra’s candy just kicked in.”
I heard them giggle and I joined them, not even sure why.
“Oh, this is gonna be so fun!”
“Let’s play dare, I can feel mine kicking in too!”
We were all literally just giggling like schoolgirls. Catherine returned to the table with drinks I didn’t even notice when she left to order.
“Bottoms up!”
“Hey, Catherine, we’re about to play dare.”
“Already? You girls are here to party, aren’t you?”
“Hell yeah. And since Sierra’s candy kicked in first, she’ll go first.”
I was still in awe of the lights but the mention of my name drew my attention back to the table.
“Huh?”
I had this urge to dance.
“We’re giving you a dare.”
I heard myself say, “Okay, shoot.” Then I took a tot glass and took a shot.
“Mehn, I love her!” I heard someone say…was it Melanie that was her name? Couldn’t remember.
“So,” Monica started, “I dare you to find a man, buy him a drink—” the girls were squealing now and Monica laughed.
“Wait, hold on now, find him, buy him a drink, then make out.”
I laughed. “Are you serious?”
“Lethally.”
“Okay.” I stood up. Time to find my man.
NathanielI was on the phone with legal about the Hartwell acquisition when the door to my office burst open without the courtesy of a knock. My secretary’s voice came half a second behind the commotion. "Sir, I'm so sorry, she just—"“Do you remember me now, asshole?!”I'd spent the last sixteen hours trying very hard not to think about the text message I received yesterday and now it had materialized into my worst nightmare, namely the girl from the bar."I'll call you back," I said into the phone, and hung up.She stood before me, and her chest was rising and falling fast. Her hands were balled into fists at her sides, and I wondered what she thought she could do with those small hands.I waved the secretary out and said nothing until she was gone. "So," I said, leaning back in my chair. "She's a stalker as well as whatever else this is.""I work here!" she spat. "I've worked here for two years. I was shocked to see you standing in that boardroom yesterday.”"Sit down," I said, but
By lunchtime, Monica had it.She slid into the seat across from me in the break room, holding her phone like it was the holy grail. “Okay. Don’t ask me how, because you’ll just worry, but I have something for you.”I stared at the string of digits on the screen she was holding up. “Monica.”“Mark owed me a favor. Don’t look at me like that, it’s fine, he thinks it’s for a delivery thing.” Monica pushed the phone closer to my face. “Write it down before I have to explain myself further.”I copied the number into my own phone, not sure if my hands were trembling because I was excited or scared. “Okay. Okay, I have it.”“You have it.” Monica studied me. “So are you calling him?”“I don’t know.”“Texting?”“I don’t know, Monica.” I pressed my palms flat against the table, willing them to stop shaking. “I can’t do it right now, it will have to be after work hours.”“Okay.” Monica held up both hands, backing off. “After work, then.”I put my phone face-down like that would somehow make the
The office smelled like burnt coffee and I can’t believe how much I missed it. I shrugged out of my coat and hung it on the back of my chair.I just had one new year resolution and it was to make sure I became Brand Executive. I already had so many ideas; home fragrance and self care was a rising sector that everyone seemed to be ignoring. I started to log into my laptop when I heard the sharp click of heels headed my way. “There she is!” Monica dropped into the chair at the next desk to mine. Sunglasses pushed up into her hair even though it was the dead of winter and there hadn’t been a ray of sunshine in days. “I missed you so much, oh my God.”I managed a smile. “We were only gone a month.”“A month too long. France was…” Monica pressed a hand to her chest like she was recovering from something. “Sierra, it was everything. The wine, the little bakery near the hotel. I gained actual weight and I don’t even care.”“Sounds amazing.” I meant it, mostly. I couldn’t keep up with the
Greenmoss was just a few kilometers outside of Meridian City and a wave of nostalgia hit me whenever I made the trip back home. I had lived here all my life; this quiet, suburban town but I knew that I couldn’t remain here forever. My dad wanted me to be an art teacher for the high school, but thank God for my mom; she was horrified that he would even think that. “We didn’t send her off to college and pay all that money for her to become an art teacher.” Then they bickered on and on while I munched on a cookie and watched TV. The relief was palpable when I got a job at Sterling Group right after college. I did not see myself spending one more year in my parents’ house. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both to pieces and I would do anything for them, but they can be suffocating sometimes. The bus slowed down at my stop and I stood to my feet with my duffel bag and walked towards the double doors as they hissed open. The road had been paved clean. “Sierra!” I stepped do
