Chapter 33

I suddenly heard the phone ring, but I didn't move. I'm too exhausted to budge and perhaps even squint my eyes. I felt Elliot move as I was wrapped in his arms. I immediately felt the loss of his warmth when he pulled his arms away from around my waist.

The phone continued to ring, and I could feel him reaching for it. Then I heard him answer it in a matter of seconds, "What?" He asks softly, but his tone of voice indicates his displeasure.

He doesn't answer after that initial greeting, so whoever is calling him may be giving him a hard time. He just keeps listening to the other person on the line. "What time is it, hmm?" he queried once again. I continue to pretend to be asleep, but I am actually eavesdropping on his conversation.

I don't want him to leave immediately today, and since it's the weekend, I'm planning to ask him to stay with me so we can spend the day together. "I'm already awake, asshole. I told you, I didn't plan to spend the night here, but I'm just too exhausted.
