The first thing Elias felt when she woke up was the softness of the mattress, far too soft to be what she was used to sleeping on. The sheets covering her from the neck down had a familiar smoky scent to them, making her eyes flutter open. But everything was too blurry for her to see. Habitually, she reached out to the bedside drawer and her hand touched a pair of glasses sitting there, and she put them on. Her eyes adjusted to the dim, chandelier light hanging from the ceiling, and she saw the Intricate details of the ceiling. Her eyes widened. Where the hell was she? Elias pushed herself up slightly, taking in the view of the room she was in. It was so much bigger than her apartment, and the walls were painted with deep charcoal, and there were different banners glued on the wall. Even the sheets were black. A leather Jacket was slung over a chair, and large boots were tossed carelessly by the door. The faint scent of the cologne she was obsessed with wafted into her nostrils,
The bass from Amanda’s party thumped so hard it rattled the streetlights. Kaelen and his friends walked down the lawn, and he could already catch the smell of alcohol and cheap cologne wafting from the house. It was a scene he had walked into a hundred times before, and he already hated it.“You know what your problem is?” Ryder smirked, lighting a cigarette as they headed up the walk, “You brood too much. No wonder you’re obsessing,”“Obsessing?” Kaelen arched a brow, shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his leather jacket, “That's what we’re calling it now?”“Don’t play dumb,” Jaxon nudged him in the ribs, then threw his arms around his shoulders, “We haven’t seen you touch another girl since that book got out, Kael. You’re acting like a damn monk!”Kaelen gave a humourless chuckle, shaking his head, “Or maybe I just got tired of shallow distractions,”“Uh-huh,” Ryder drawled, puffing out smoke, “And maybe it has something to do with your… little challenge,”That earned Ryder
Elias was blind without her glasses. Everything was blurred around her, and she frantically tapped her hands all over the floor, hoping to find them. But then, those annoying heels clicked on the floor and the next thing she heard was a bitter crunch of breaking glass, making her pause her movements. Her breath caught, knowing someone had just crushed them up. Anger rose up her neck, "Amanda, what the hell do you think you're doing?"A figure approached, one that resembled the very devil herself and a palm came hard across Elias's cheek, making her face turn sharply to the other side. Pain seared through her face, and she tasted blood in her mouth. Then, Amanda grabbed her hair and pulled it back roughly, looking straight into her eye, "You know what's funny? I thought you would have known better than to come here. How can someone be so dumb?"Brooke snickered somewhere in the background, "She only knows how to write, Amanda. She has no idea how to use her brain,"Elias's chest bur
Elias almost turned around three times on her way to Amanda's house. She could have easily stayed home tonight, but she didn't want to seem weak to Amanda and give her the leverage to have more against her. And maybe, just maybe, she was going because she hoped Kaelen would be there just as Amanda had mentioned. The music's bass was already rattling the pavement half a block away, with laughter spilling from inside and outside the house, the closer she got. As she approached the front door, she subconsciously stared down at herself, wondering for the umpteenth time if what she was wearing was college party worthy. It was her first time being invited to a party. She had gone with a T-shirt and Dark jeans tonight, instead of her regular sweatshirts. But then again, she wasn't here to blend in. She would spend an hour max here, and leave immediately. Red cups littered the front steps of the house, and the mansion loomed beautiful. People were around the yard, most of them half-drunk
Elias's vision blurred for a second, and she kept reading it over and over again, but the words didn't change. She's always believed someone leaked her book, but she didn't know how, nor did she have any leads. But now...Slowly, she looked up and glanced around the class hoping to catch someone suspicious who might be staring back at her right now. But all she saw was Kaelen, who had been watching her intently. He had caught the unease covering her face, and the twitch in her eyes, "What does it say?" Kaelen asked, looking straight at her. Elias quickly squeezed the paper inside her palm, "Nothing," She replied too quickly in a whisper. "Liar," He drawled, leaning even closer, "Your hands are trembling. It's not nothing," "It is!" She retorted with a slight frown, "Not let me focus on my lecture. You're very distracting,"Kaelen smirked, and Elias instantly knew she had said the wrong thing, "It's nothing new, Elias. I've always distracted you in every way,"She swallowed hard, n
Elias walked into class the next day, nervous as usual. The gossip about the leaked book was still the hottest topic on campus, and the teasing and stares from people weren't getting any less. Especially not when many people had seen her walking next to Kaelen last night. The lecture hall buzzed with the usual chatter as she walked in, but her eyes were instantly drawn to him. Elias blinked, wondering if she was hallucinating. What was he doing here in her lecture room?Kaelen was seated in one of the back seats with that lazy confidence he always carried around. His broad shoulders relaxed, and his broad legs stretched out before him. And of course, that long dark hair was tousled just enough to look reckless but intentional. Beside him was Amanda, a longing flirty smile on her face as she chatted away. As if he felt her presence walk into the class, he turned and her breath caught as those grey eyes pierced into hers. And suddenly, all she could see was last night. His hands a
