Brielle's POV

"Plus she'd probably defend him," Finn added darkly. "People like Richard Moretti are good at making themselves look respectable. Good fathers, good businessmen, good citizens. It's all a mask."

I picked at my pancakes without eating them, my appetite completely gone. The conversation shifted eventually to safer topics—Cassandra's upcoming case, Finn's latest dating disaster—but the weight of my situation never quite left the table. Even as we laughed at Finn's impression of his Tinder date who'd brought his emotional support peacock to dinner, I felt the shadow of Dante Moretti hanging over everything.

When we finally left the restaurant, Finn pulled me aside while Cassandra went to get her car.

"I mean it, Bri. Be careful." His hands gripped my shoulders, his blue eyes deadly serious in a way I'd rarely seen. "If things get weird, if he does anything that makes you uncomfortable, you call me immediately. Okay?"

"Okay."

"I'm serious. Day or night. I don't care if it's

Brielle's POV Friday night found me three drinks deep and finally feeling like I could breathe again.Cassandra had dragged me to a trendy bar downtown. I'd protested at first, but the vodka had smoothed my edges, and her stories about her latest string of dating disasters actually made me laugh for the first time in days. The whole thing was getting to me and it was disturbing."So he shows up to the date wearing Crocs," Cassandra said, gesturing wildly with her martini glass. "Crocs, Bri. On a first date. To a steakhouse.""Maybe he's just confident." I took another sip of my drink, enjoying the pleasant buzz humming through my veins."Confidence is one thing. Crocs are a war crime." She paused mid-sip, her expression shifting. The amusement drained from her face as her eyes focused on something behind my shoulder. "You've got to be kidding me.""What?" I twisted in my seat.My stomach dropped.Across the room, leaning against the bar with the casual arrogance of someone who owned

The delivery guy showed up at my desk around two in the afternoon, wheeling a cart with a box so large it drew immediate attention from everyone in the open concept office."Brielle Rivera?""That's me." I signed for the package, confused. I hadn't ordered anything. The box was pristine white with a luxury tech brand logo embossed on the side in silver foil.My stomach dropped."Oh my God, what is that?" Chelsea from accounting materialized at my shoulder, her voice pitched high with excitement. Within seconds, half the design team had abandoned their workstations to crowd around my desk. Always sticking their noses as always."I don't know." My hands felt numb as I pulled the packaging tape loose, dread building with each tearing sound. The box opened to reveal exactly what I feared. A Wacom Cintiq Pro, top of the line, the kind of digital drawing tablet I'd been lusting after for months but could never justify spending thousands of dollars on. The kind I'd bookmarked and researched

  • My Biker Stepbrother For Christmas   7. Forget about everything

Brielle's POVI didn't make it far.Dante blocked the hallway before I reached the front door, his broad frame filling the narrow space like an impenetrable wall. The scent of him hit me first—that cologne, dark and expensive and utterly masculine, with notes of cedarwood and something spicier that I couldn't quite name. It wrapped around me like smoke, curling into my lungs, making my head spin and my thoughts scatter like leaves in a storm."Move," I said, keeping my eyes fixed somewhere over his left shoulder, not meeting his gaze."We need to talk.""No, we don't.""Brielle." My name on his lips sounded dangerous, weighted with intention and something darker that made my skin prickle with awareness. "You can't just walk away from this.""Watch me."I tried stepping around him, angling my body to squeeze past, but he shifted smoothly, blocking my path again with an ease that suggested he'd anticipated my movement before I'd even made it. The hallway felt impossibly small with him i

Brielle's POVI wanted to yank my hand away, but his grip held firm for just a second too long. Enough to send a message. Enough to remind me that he hadn't forgotten a single second of what happened in that hotel room."Please, sit, everyone!" My mother gestured toward the dining table like she was hosting royalty. I'd have rolled my eyes, but, well, I was too tensed to do that. I slid into my chair, trying to steady my breathing. Dante took the seat directly across from me. Of course he did. His eyes found mine again, and the corner of his mouth twitched."So, Dante," my mother began as she poured wine, "what is it you do?""I help manage the family businesses," he said smoothly. "Hotels, primarily."My stomach dropped. Hotels? What the fuck was he trying to do?"How interesting!" my mother cooed. "Brielle loves traveling. Don't you, sweetheart?""Sure, Mom.""She's being modest," my mother continued. "She's very adventurous. Always trying new things."Dante's gaze slid to me, dark
