Dante

The sun streaking in from the drawn curtains pulls me from deep, restful sleep. The first thing I do is reach over, hoping to come across a warm, soft body.

But the bed is empty.

I open my eyes to see for myself, sighing when I find that the woman I was with—brunette, pale pink lips with a stunning figure is no longer in my bed.

Cradling a flicker of hope that she might have decided to stick around, I drag myself from the bed, naked, and walk to the door. I open it and step into the living room, but she's nowhere to be found. Glancing over my shoulder, I realize her clothes aren't in the bedroom either.

She's gone.

"Oh well," I murmur.

It's not the first time a woman has left me alone in a hotel room, but this one made a particular impression on me. I caught her as she walked into the bar last night—her dark hair falling down her shoulders, the careful strides, like she was aware of her every move.

It was different from the others who walked in, laughing with their partners or friends. I could tell she didn't want to be there, but there was something else about her that I could place my finger on.

Until I kissed her.

A firestorm.

The kind you don't expect until it hits you, consuming you while. Her skin…soft under my hands, her moans needy and without a care in the world.

I wouldn't have minded having another night.

My phone's shrill ringtone fills the air, and I break out of my reverie, picking up my pants and digging it out. It's my assistant, Giorgio.

"What do you have for me?" I ask.

"The investors have agreed to your demands," he says, and my lips curl into a satisfied smile. "I set up a meeting with them in an hour. Your favorite restaurant."

"Good," I respond, walking to the closet and throwing the door open. I pick out a tie and toss it on the bed. "Make reservations for dinner too. Something with fish."

"Yes, sir."

Giorgio goes silent, but I sense he's not telling me everything. "What's the matter?" I ask.

He clears his throat hesitantly. "Ah..it's Miss Monroe. She says she's been trying to reach you? I wasn't going to bring it up, but she said something about signing an agreement about a property that comes to her in the event of your breakup."

I roll my eyes as my lips thin out. "Tell her that she's not getting her hands on anything, and she should be grateful that I haven't taken back what she stole from me. Impress on her," I add as I select a shirt, "the trouble she'll be in if it turns into a legal issue."

"But the publicity?" He asks, sounding concerned. I pick out a pair of pants and take it to the bed, staring at my choice of outfit.

Looks good.

"Sir?"

I run my fingers through my hair, exhaling impatiently. "I'm sure you know how to keep from exposing your bluff at this point, Giorgio. You've been working for me for three years."

"Yes, sir."

I end the call after, tossing my phone on the bed. Emilia Monroe. I knew she was going to return, the sly minx. After cheating on me with a fellow model for two years out of our three-year relationship, stealing from my home safe, and a lot of other petty crimes, she's lucky I didn't press charges.

Not that I would have gone that route, though.

There's a reason why I chose to keep the relationship secret from the public.

Thirty minutes later, in a black suit with a blue undershirt and dress shoes, I head out of the hotel and into my sports car. As I turn on the ignition, I reach into my suit pocket, taking out a pair of red lace panties.

"Jenna Martins," I murmur as my lips curl into a smirk.

It’s a shame she left before we could go a second time, though.

I glance at my phone as I pull out of the VIP parking lot, contemplating calling my assistant for a few seconds. Her smell fills my car and my thoughts stray back to last night…her soft skin, and the red lace slipping down luscious thighs, joining cotton jumpsuits on the floor.

I close my eyes briefly, savoring the thrill that races down my throat, settling below my belt as I picture her hands wrapped around me.

I don’t hear the sound of the other car coming, ignoring the red light at the intersection. Neither do I see it head directly for my car, not until it’s too late.

I try to veer away, but my car spins out of control, the sound of tires screeching and metal scraping piercing my eardrums. The car flips over—in slow motion, suspended in air one moment and landing on the asphalt in the next.

Glass implodes and I feel a sharp pain race through my body. I try to move, but I can’t feel my limbs.

I can’t feel anything either, except for the slow trickle from the side of my head. It smells like copper…like blood and fuel.

“Help,” I whisper hoarsely. “Help please.”

My vision blurs with dark spots as my head swims, the darkness dragging me under.

JennaDante turned around at the front door, pulling his jacket straight. He looked exhausted, like he had the weight of the whole world sitting right on his shoulders."I have to go, Jenna," he said, staring at me with those serious eyes. "Work just came up. I really don't have a choice right now."I gave a tiny nod and tried to give him a reassuring smile. I didn't want him worrying about us while he was out there doing whatever it was that suddenly needed his presence. "Just take care of yourself while I'm gone," he added, his voice dropping low as he took a step closer. "Please.""We'll be fine," I told him softly, holding the door frame while struggling not to roll my eyes. "Don't worry about us. Just do what you need to do and be careful out there."He gave me one last long look, nodded once, and then walked down the hallway toward the stairs. I watched his back until he turned the corner and disappeared from view.I shut the door and locked it tight. The moment the latch click

JennaWarm, wet lips pressed against my neck, pulling me right out of my deep sleep.I stirred slowly on the soft mattress, blinking my eyes open into the dim morning light filtering through the curtains."Dante..." I mumbled out, my voice thick and raspy from sleep. He didn't answer me with words. Instead, his mouth moved up my jawline, peppering my skin with soft, trailing kisses that made my whole body shiver. Before my brain could even process what was happening, he pulled me back against his broad chest, rolling me over slightly onto my side. His hands were warm as they slid under my shirt, moving over my waist and pulling me tight against his body. He slowly took me from behind, his touch deliberate and overwhelming.I gasped out, burying my face into the soft pillow beneath me. My mind was screaming at me to push him off, to scream at him, to tell him to get out of my bed.I was supposed to stay far away from him. I was supposed to keep a boundary between us after everything

JennaThe door clicked shut behind me, sealing me into the dim quiet of the guest room that no longer felt temporary. Three days.Only three days under the same roof, and Dante had already changed everything we've ever known. Maria’s soft voice still echoed in my head, ‘I want him to be my daddy’, and the way he’d answered without hesitation, as if the title were already his by right. My stomach twisted because she really was hiis daughter. The secret sat on my tongue like a blade I kept swallowing.I pressed my fingertips to my lips. The ghost of his mouth lingered there, the same way it had every night since I’d arrived. He would come in after midnight, silent as a shadow, lean over the bed, and claim a slow kiss while I pretended to be lost in sleep. I never understood why I kept my eyes closed, why I let the lie stretch between us. Maybe because the truth was heavier. Maybe because part of me needed those stolen moments more than air.Tonight I did the same. I lay still, breat

I needed to get this out before everything exploded in our faces."Listen to me very carefully, Jenna," I said, grabbing her upper arms to hold her still. "We don't have much time."She looked up at me with pale cheeks, her eyes wide. "Dante, what's going on? You're scaring me.""It's about Daniel and Barbara," I said, my voice barely above a harsh whisper. "They've been working together this time."Jenna blinked, utter shock washing over her features. "What? Daniel and Barbara? How?""I got files from Jamie earlier," I explained, leaning closer. "They have history going back years. And Barbara just called me a few hours ago trying to frame you.""Frame me for what?" she gasped out, her hands flying to her mouth."She claimed you were the one who caused my car accident back in Italy three years ago," I said, keeping my eyes fixed on hers. "She tried to tell me you set the whole thing up to take

DanteI sat in the small, white room while the nurse tied a rubber band around my arm. The room smelled like alcohol, and the lights overhead were giving me a headache."Just a quick prick, sir," the nurse said, sliding the needle straight into my vein.I didn't even flinch. I just stared at the small glass vials filling up with my blood, my brain spinning out of control."How long will the results take?" I asked, looking up at the doctor standing near the door."Since this is an emergency, we are rushing the blood panel straight through our main lab," the doctor explained, holding a clip board. "We should have the preliminary match report in under an hour.""Make it thirty minutes," I said, my voice leaving no room for debate. "I'll pay whatever fee you need to rush it."The doctor nodded quickly and walked out with the nurse. I stood up, rolled my sleeve back down, and walked back out into the waiting hallway.Jenna was sitting on one of the plastic chairs with her knees pulled up t
