Tom could not breathe!

For close to thirty minutes now after sharing his story and ordeals with Martha, she had refused to say a word, despite his eagerness for her understanding.

He had told himself he was not expecting her sympathies and forgiveness for his misdemeanours, but now that he was done explaining about his childhood, he found he was disappointed with her attitude.

The silence was not what he was expecting!

But despite his prompts, she just kept staring into space, unable or probably not interested in saying a word.

Maybe his story had shocked her beyond belief and the poor girl was in a mental state of distress.

‘Or maybe she was judging him? Unfavourably?’ Tom did not understand, but he found the more she was quiet, the more he wanted to crawl to a hole and hide.

He never thought he cared for her opinion of him but obviously, he did.
