Chapter 31 — Follow Up

Beth

I stared at my reflection in the elevator doors.

Hair curled, check. Mascara layered but not clumpy, check. Lip gloss? Subtle.

I looked… normal. Like a girl going in for a normal check-up. Not like someone who’d been spiraling for two weeks straight over whether or not her doctor has been flirting with her.

God.

The doors opened with a muted ding, and I stepped into the now-too-familiar waiting room. It was almost surreal how calm everything looked. As if the couch I sat on two weeks ago hadn’t been the scene of a full-blown internal panic attack. As if Dr. Cole hadn’t handed me a little white pill with clinical detachment while I tried not to cry.

I arrived at exactly 11:28, just early enough to seem responsible but not so early that it looked like I was anxious.

Even though I kind of was.

Not because of the thought of repeating an invasive exam—okay, maybe like five percent because of that—but mostly because this was my first time seeing Dr. Cole again since I… texted him. On

  • My Boyfriend’s Dad Is My Gynecologist    Chapter 121 – The Room

BethThe room was dim, but not dark.A single bulb swung overhead, casting shadows that shifted with every breath I took. My wrists were bound behind the back of a chair—tight enough to bite into skin, not tight enough to make me bleed. Ankles strapped to the legs with zip ties. My mouth was dry, but I wasn’t gagged. That would’ve made it too easy for them to forget I was still a person.I wasn’t sure how long I’d been here.Time felt slippery.I remembered the sidewalk. The bench. Levi’s voice in my head telling me to wait there. And then—The car. The hands. The missing shoe. A voice shouting. Asphalt scraping my knee. My phone—gone. Now this. Now them.Three men.Two near the door, flanking it like discount bouncers. The third—older, rougher, with a voice decayed from cigarette smoke and a suit that didn’t quite fit—was pacing with a phone to his ear.I didn’t know his name at first. But then he said it.“Mick.”My stomach turned.Whoever he was talking to… I didn’t have to guess.

StacyThe market had barely opened when I started gutting my portfolio.Blue chips. Index funds. Long-term dividends. All of it—sold. Not because I couldn’t afford the price tag.Because I didn’t have time to wait for polite transfers and slow-moving banks. The bastard gave me forty-eight hours. And if I wanted Beth breathing at the end of it, I had to move faster than the system was built to allow.I sat at the kitchen table with my laptop, two phones, and a black leather binder I hadn’t opened in years—the emergency playbook. Asset breakdowns, contact lists, contingency codes for vault access and off-site safes. I’d built this plan for things like nuclear meltdowns, not hostage situations. But at this point, what was the difference?Click.Another trade executed.Another chunk of safety turned to usable capital. The numbers on the screen weren’t the problem—I had enough. More than enough. Between the properties, the trust fund my parents left me, and the practice itself, I could buy

  • My Boyfriend’s Dad Is My Gynecologist    Chapter 119 – The Offer

StacyThe sharp ring of my phone nearly sent me out of the chair.I jolted upright, heart hammering, breath ragged. My head throbbed like a drumline was marching behind my eyes, and for a second, I couldn’t even place where I was.Kitchen.The table beneath my arms was sticky with sweat and condensation from a glass that had tipped on its side. Beside it, the bottle—whiskey. Nearly gone. A faint amber halo still swirled at the bottom like it was mocking me.I didn’t remember pouring the glass.Hell, I didn’t remember finishing the bottle. But there it was. Evidence of a night I’d spent trying to drink away panic. And failing. The phone buzzed again, closer now. I fumbled for it, still blinking the bleariness from my vision. I didn’t even look at the screen before answering. My mouth was dry, lips cracked.“Yeah?”A pause.

StacyThe call came in just after six. I was halfway through organizing a patient’s test results when Levi’s name flashed across my phone. The minute I saw his name, I knew something was wrong. He never called me during work hours—he texted. Sent check-ins. Confirmations. Quiet updates. Not calls.I answered instantly. “Talk.”“She’s gone.”The words hit me like a punch to the ribs.“What do you mean&mda

Beth“That was Levi,” I said, waving vaguely toward the door as it clicked shut. “He’s… uh, my bodyguard.”Rachel’s eyebrows shot up. “Your what now?”“Bodyguard,” I repeated, biting back a laugh at her expression. “Stacy hired him after Tommy totaled my car. He didn’t like the idea of me being without protection.”“Oh my God,” Rachel whispered, leaning in like I’d just confessed to harboring a mafia secret. “He’s your own personal Jason Statham?”“More like if Jason Statham shopped at REI and drank protein shakes with kale,” I said, grabbing my drink.“And you’re okay with that?”“Yeah. At first we were both kind of on edge. Levi was intense—always scanning rooftops and watching everyone who walked within a ten-foot radius of me. But lately&h

BethRachel knocked once before bursting into my office, two paper bags in her arms and a grin like she’d just won a game show.“Lunch delivery for the overworked goddess,” she sang.I looked up from my screen, blinking out of the spreadsheet coma I’d been in for the last four hours. “Oh my God. You brought food? Actual food? I was about to eat a cough drop and pretend it was a protein bar.”“I had a feeling.” She kicked the door shut behind her and dropped into the guest chair. “You’ve been dodging me for two weeks.
