SIDE STORY**Torren bursts out of the tent, his enraged roar splitting through the air.Just a few distances away, the lifeless body of the Alpha lies sprawled in the dirt, his lips blackened, his eyes frozen wide in a silent scream. Poison.Panic ripples through the village as Warriors rush between huts, shouting and grabbing weapons, as they search for one person, but Torren already knows it. His prisoner has escaped, and his rage burns hotter than fire.He storms up to the second warrior, the one assigned to guard Javier. The male's face is pale as Torren shoves him hard. “How did he escape?” His voice cracks like a whip. “They fooled us! You were supposed to watch him!”The warrior stumbles backwards, his hands raised in surrender “H-he cut himself deep. I thought he was going to die, so he begged me to get bandages…”Torren’s snarl is low and cruel. His hand flashes out.“You couldn’t see through such a pathetic trick?” His fingers lock around the warrior’s throat. “You fail
SIDE STORYThe sound of horse hooves grows more distant. Fainter, until it vanishes completely.Luca was gone.Javier releases the breath he’s been holding. Outside the tent, he can see the shadows of warriors standing with their weapons crossed, blocking any hope of exit or entrance. Two Alphas. Torren isn’t taking chances, but Javier has no intention of staying here, rather than becoming a tool to control Luca, there must be something he can do. Adrenaline pumps through Javier’s blood as he paces the large tent for what feels like hours but is really only seconds. The thought is already forming as his gaze catches on the supplies he and Luca had gathered before arriving at this camp. Javier grabs the small sack containing a few clothes, ointment. . . The stainless dagger hidden among the fabric catches his eye, its sharp gleam reflecting his own hard expression.Sorry, Luca.I cannot listen to you. There was no way he would sit by and watch Luca face an impossible choice. It's
SIDE STORY * * Javier doesn't speak but Luca can see the questions burning in his eyes. “Get back inside,” Luca says quietly, but Javier has already seen too much. The omega’s gaze darts between Torren and the armed men, understanding dawning in his eyes. Everything is wrong. Has Torren discovered it all? What is Torren planning to do with Luca? Both anger and anxiety spread through him, thinking Luca is in possible danger, but acting impulsively will only get him in more trouble, so for now, Javier unwillingly retreats into the tent. Luca let out the breath he'd been holding. At least Javier hadn't made an outburst that would put them in the spot. He turns to Torren who is still watching, “I’ll get back to you with my response,” “Don't make me wait for too long, you have only until the sun goes down,” Half a day? How close was Torren to implementing his plan? Luca storms back to his tent, his heart pounding with the dread his expression hadn't been able to give away. “
SIDE STORY * * Dawn approaches, and Luca can already feel the striking bolt of tension in the air, even before he steps into the war meeting tent where five other chiefs…rough men with hardened faces, each a leader of the clans that now follow Torren, are already waiting. He enters with a confident grace that only a Beta of his strength could possess in the presence of pure Alphas. All pairs of gazes are directed at him, the rigidity of the air tells him that they had already been discussing. And it had been about him. Torren clears his throat, breaking the uncomfortable silence. “Welcome, Luca Greyfang!” Torren is the only Chief who seems excited; he approaches Luca with a grin, and the murmurs from the other Chiefs grow louder. They clearly do not like the idea of someone who used to be an acquaintance of Lyrien working with them. Luca is brooding inwardly, too; he wants to get this over with as fast as possible. The further they stay in the enemy's camp, the more dange
“You are making my mate uncomfortable,” Luca nudges the female away, the servant’s face flushed with embarrassment and anger, but she doesn’t argue with the dismissal. She looks at Javier with a glare, only for her face to turn chalk white with dread. An omega, yet he looks even more coldly terrifying than the Beta right now. The murderous gleam in his eyes as he slices a piece of meat from the neck of the roasted lamb sends a shudder through her. She scurries away, but Javier's eyes still follow her, seeming almost disappointed that she had given up on Luca too easily. “Erase that thought from your mind,” Luca leans to whisper in his ears, but Javier shifts his chair away slightly, he's very much annoyed with Luca too, but as he tries to create more distance, a familiar ache bolts down his pelvis to his leg where Luca marked him a few days ago, rough and claiming, until his voice had broken from screaming out his name. Luca marked their bond and then proceeded to knot him, and th
SIDE STORY **A few days later, Luca and Javier were escorted from the isolation of the cave by Torren and his men. Torren's clan is further south and it takes two days to arrive. A large feast is already awaiting. This further proves Luca's suspicion, the Alpha has prepared this in advance, knowing he would succeed in bringing them; he never intended to take a refusal for an answer.Since Torren had to go this far to look for him, did this mean the attack on Lyrien would be soon? The air smells of roasted meat and wine. Torren has put together quite a feast, and the air buzzes with voices of his warriors and the clinking of cups.Torren sits at the head of the large table, grinning broadly.“Welcome to my clan, I hope you are enjoying the celebration? We want you as comfortable as possible” The Alpha says smoothly, holding a toast in the air. It takes Luca only a few seconds to notice the Chiefs of smaller clans who had formed an alliance with Torren. They have all gathered toge
