Chapter 3

Author: Shaylune
Willa covered her face. Her eyes were filled with disbelief.

"You're a grown man. How could you hit me?" Willa asked.

I was trembling with rage, but I forced myself to stay calm as I argued.

"You brought over a dozen people to occupy my property and refused to leave. On top of that, you led wave after wave of verbal abuse against me and even encouraged others to lay their hands on me. I had no choice but to defend myself."

Sebastian's expression turned furious when he heard this. He lifted his foot and tried to kick me.

"Ryan, how dare you hurt my woman? You have a death wish!"

Since I dodged quickly, he missed and crashed hard onto the ground. He screamed in pain.

That completely set things off.

Meredith led her group of relatives and chased after me while trying to hit me.

"You filthy man! We're nobodies if we don't beat you to death today!"

To avoid getting cornered and outnumbered, I sprinted down the stairs as fast as I could while shouting in panic.

"Fire! Someone help! There's a fire!"

It worked. People who were out walking in the neighborhood quickly gathered around.

I immediately changed what I was saying.

"No, someone's trying to kill me! They're trying to take over my house and kill me!"

Right then, Meredith and the others came running down with kitchen knives and mops in hand. When they saw me hiding behind a group of neighbors, they grew even more furious.

"You filthy man! In the blink of an eye, you've already found more women to protect you? If you've got guts, come over here!"

The neighbors, both men and women, instantly got involved. They argued back and confronted them.

I lowered my voice and said, "Please call the police. They smashed my phone."

Just as I finished speaking, Willa arrived. She was supporting Sebastian. Seeing the situation, she immediately put on the act of a victim and explained to the neighbors, "Everyone, here's what happened. He owes me 290 grand. He used this house, worth 220 grand, to settle part of the debt. Now he's shamelessly trying to take it back.

"I have a written transfer agreement with his name, Ryan Harris, clearly on it."

With that, she pulled out a stack of documents and showed them to the crowd.

The neighbors stepped closer. After reading, they turned to me.

"Are you Ryan?"

A bad feeling crept over me.

"That agreement is definitely fake. I never signed anything."

The moment I said that, the way they looked at me changed. They seemed more wary of me.

Sebastian then shouted indignantly.

"He's a liar through and through. Stay away from him. Next thing you know, he'll seduce your wives.

"If I hadn't been home today, he would've stripped naked and thrown himself at my girlfriend. He's truly shameless!

"When that didn't work, he tried to set the house on fire to threaten us. Tell me, doesn't someone like him deserve a beating?"

Under his shameless slander, the neighbors instantly turned against me. They began hurling insults.

"We almost got fooled into defending the wrong person. He's despicable!"

One of Sebastian's relatives blended into the crowd and shouted, "Exactly! People like him need a good beating so he learns his lesson and never dares to seduce someone else's wife again!"

That single sentence stirred the crowd. With their fists clenched, they looked ready to attack me.

I quickly tried to explain, but before I could, Sebastian suddenly attacked me from behind with a kick.

"You were the one who tried starting a fire earlier. What if it actually happened? Do you have any idea how much property damage that would cause? It's not your stuff, so you don't care, do you?"

His tone sounded righteous. It was convincing to those who didn't know the truth, but the smugness in his eyes gave him away.

Willa chimed in, "My boyfriend is absolutely right. I've known this man since we were kids. He's a compulsive liar and addicted to gambling. For money, who knows how many old women he's been with. Everyone, you'd better watch out for losers like him."

She even put on a look of pain and disappointment, and that made me seem all the more disgusting.

Pain shot through me. Sweat formed on my forehead as I clutched my stomach and struggled to stand.

"Willa, you are legally responsible for everything you say.

"Someone please call property management. I've never made any ownership transfer. One check will prove everything."

Willa smiled when she heard this.

"Go ahead and make the call. I'm not scared. Only liars feel guilty," she said.

By the time the police arrived, Sebastian and the others had beaten up Willa so badly that she nearly died. Melanie tried to stop them but ended up getting slapped twice herself and fainted on the spot.In the end, the entire group was arrested.Flynn was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, he was fine.He had never worried about me his entire life, yet today, because I had carelessly given Willa the house's passcode, everything spiraled out of control and triggered his heart condition. I couldn't help but feel guilty. But to him and my mom, none of that mattered. What mattered most was whether I was badly hurt. They kept urging me to get a checkup."Willa is awful. We treated her like our own daughter, yet she schemed to take our son's property and even had him beaten like this. She deserves to rot in hell.""Not just her. Her mother too."The two of them kept cursing nonstop.Honestly, that was probably for the best. Letting it out was better than bottling it up. After all, o

Sebastian immediately lost it and started arguing loudly with the crowd."You're all talking nonsense! That property deed was brought by Ryan's mom. How could it be fake? If anyone forged it, it was his mom!"Willa didn't even think before echoing him."Exactly! If there's a problem with the deed, it's Mrs. Harris' fault. It has nothing to do with my mom."She had clearly slipped up in her panic. She contradicted herself just to keep her mother out of it.I snorted."Willa, let's not talk about who forged the deed for now. Where did you get that property transfer agreement? I never signed anything."Do you dare go with me to have the signature authenticated? We can even bring everyone along to watch so neither of us can bribe the authorities."I could say that confidently, but she couldn't. Sweat instantly formed on her forehead. She began stuttering."W-What authentication? I-It's your signature. I-It can't be fake."While speaking, her eyes darted around nervously. It was a

I ignored Melanie completely. I pulled the SIM card out of my smashed phone and raised my voice to the crowd."The transfer agreement and even the property deed can be forged, but without my consent, the ownership details registered at the Land Records Office can never be changed."Since you think I'm working with that couple, I'm offering a reward of 15 grand to whoever helps me verify my identity on the Land Records Office website. Check whether Unit 601 in Block 10-2 is under my name."As soon as I finished, Sebastian snorted."Wow, a 15 grand reward. Big talk. What if it turns out it's not yours? Are you going to back out? Or are you planning to pay with your body instead? Either way, as a man, you don't lose anything."He sounded awfully sarcastic.Meredith and the others burst into laughter."He's acting up again. He probably can't wait anymore."I forced down my rage and replied word by word, "Everything you've said about me constitutes defamation. I will hold you legall

As a lawyer, I'd seen plenty of people who were unreasonable and made baseless accusations, but facing this myself still made me tremble with rage. The rage in my chest surged uncontrollably.I turned directly to the neighbors who didn't know the truth and dropped to my knees. I pleaded through tears, "Most of you must have elderly family members, or at least know someone with heart disease. How could my dad be faking something like this? Even if there are doubts about my situation today, my dad is innocent. Please, help me call an ambulance."I'll stay here and face them if I have to, but his life comes first. Someone here must understand that no one would joke about their own dad's life."I had no other choice. The crowd had been completely misled by Willa and Sebastian. Their anger toward me had reached its peak. This was the only way I might get a sliver of hope. But the Judd family, led by the two of them, still burst into laughter."Haha! Why aren't you threatening us with

I snatched the property deed and, the moment I saw the name on it, my eyes widened in shock."How is this possible? How could it be in Willa's name?""Why not?"Sebastian crossed his arms and sneered."Ryan, you already used the house to settle your debt with Willa. Now you're shamelessly refusing to accept the ownership transfer? Fits you perfectly, a kept man through and through. You have nothing but a stubborn mouth."As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd burst into laughter.Only then did my parents realize it was me. Their faces instantly turned pale."Ryan! H-How did you end up like this?"They looked sad, and their voices were trembling."Who did this to you?"I didn't answer them directly. Instead, my mind raced while I tried to figure out where things had gone wrong."Mom, are you sure you took this deed from my room?"My mother, Madelyn Harris, spoke in a shaky voice as her tears fell."Yes, it was in the cabinet where you always keep your documents. The property manager soon arrived.Seeing more than thirty people surrounding me, he immediately realized how serious the situation was and quickly asked what had happened."The registered owner of this unit is Ms. Willa Scott."The property manager looked me up and down."I think I've seen you more than once. You were going in and out with different female owners."That single sentence set the crowd into an uproar. The neighbors, who were influenced by constant embellishment from several of the Judd family relatives, all started seeing me as some disgraceful homewrecker."Shameless jerk. No wonder he ran straight into the group of women earlier. He's clearly a repeat offender.""Exactly. This is outrageous. As residents, we should stick together and deal with jerks like him."The insults and curses came wave after wave. The crowd grew more and more agitated. The situation was on the verge of spiraling out of control. No matter how hard I tried to explain, no one would listen
