Natalie POV
"Congratulations, Luna!" The words hit me the moment I stepped into Dr. Martinez's office, followed by his warm, beaming smile. I stood frozen in the doorway, my purse still clutched against my chest. "Congratulations for what?" The question tumbled out before I could stop it. His smile widened as he gestured for me to sit. "Luna, you're pregnant. About six weeks along, from what the tests show." The world seemed to tilt sideways. "There has to be some mistake." "No mistake." His voice carried gentle certainty as he slid the test results across his desk. "The blood work confirms it." I stared at the paper, the numbers and medical terms blurring together. Pregnant. The word echoed in my mind like a stone dropped into still water, creating ripples that spread outward, touching everything. My chest constricted, making each breath feel forced. How was I supposed to tell Darren? We'd been together for two years, but we'd never talked about children, never planned for this. He hardly even touched me. "Thank you, Dr. Martinez," I managed, my voice steadier than I felt. I folded the results carefully and tucked them into my purse, as if handling them gently might somehow make the situation more manageable. He wanted to say more but I really did not want to hear anything else about the baby. I was finding it hard to hold my marriage, I cannot have a child as well. I must find a way out of this. I will….I…I placed my hand on my stomach taking a deep breath. A baby. I was having a baby inside of me. Shame this isn't going to end well. Walking toward the hospital exit, my mind raced with half-formed conversations and imagined reactions. That's when I saw him. Darren,my mate , the alpha of the moonlight pack stood near the main entrance, his familiar silhouette unmistakable even from a distance. But he wasn't alone. A woman with glossy auburn hair was nestled against his side, her hand resting on his chest in a gesture so intimate it made my stomach lurch. I fumbled for my sunglasses with trembling fingers, hoping to become invisible in the crowd of patients and visitors streaming past. "Sorry I'm late, sweetheart," I heard him say, his voice carrying that tender tone I thought was reserved for me. "Close your eyes," he murmured to her, producing a bouquet of white roses from behind his back—the same flowers he'd brought me on our first anniversary. She accepted them with a radiant smile, inhaling their fragrance. "Thank you, my Alpha" Alpha? The word slammed into me with physical force. I watched, paralyzed, as they walked past me toward the parking garage, her engagement ring catching the fluorescent light, a ring I'd never seen before, on a hand that wasn't mine, we had an argument recently and I had thrown the ring at him. And he…he gave it to someone else? The pregnancy results felt heavy in my purse, suddenly meaningless. Around me, I caught fragments of whispered conversations from other visitors: "Such a devoted husband... she's so lucky... they look so happy together..." I stood there until they disappeared from view, tears streaming down my face beneath my dark lenses. Tears streamed down my face watching their public affair. I couldn't believe he would do this to me. I watched as he used his fingers to trace her lips, leaning down to kiss her softly. That shattered my broken heart into tiny bits. “Alpha Darren,” I called, my voice cracking as they turned. His smile dropped like a mask slipping. “What are you doing here?” he asked, eyes flicking from me to the test results crumpled in my fist. I took a step forward. “Do I need permission now, husband?” The woman clutched his arm tighter. I pursed my lips. "What's wrong with you Darren?! What did I ever do to you?” I questioned with tears brimming in my eyes. "Or have you forgotten tha t we are mated?"I gasped out with the words tasting like metal in my mouth. "Mated to who?" Alpha Darren snarled. "You? Oh please don't make me laugh." He said with a mocking glance, his cruel words cutting through me like I was nothing. “ He is our mate” my wolf cried in agony. “Argh “my wolf ,Selene whimpered in pain ,my body ached badly as I dropped to my knees as the mate bond between us tightened against me violently but he didn't cast a glance at me. The world I knew froze at that moment " You can never be the Luna of the crescent moon pack as you are just a worthless omega I picked from the slum” he spat out his growl holding an irritation to me. “ Please stop this if this is a joke “ I begged with heavy sobs escaping my throat . He let out a cold laugh loud and clear ,my breath hoarse which cut through the thick layer of my skin. My head rolled back registering the words with my arms trembling with all eyes glaring at me. His eyes darkened turning deep brown as they flashed at me sending a shrill crawling down my spine. I took a step back in shock. " My heart only belongs to Morgan," he said, kissing her knuckles ,her cheeks flushed upon mentioning her name, his glare hot in my face. My eyes widened,my jaw dropped as fear coursed through my body with murmurs rippling through the crowd. " No this can't be true!" I screamed, crying my heart out . “ Stop acting like a victim Natalie we both know you never loved me” he barked accusing me sternly which left me on edge. My body heated up , silence creeping in with a confused frown creasing my eyebrows. “ What do you mean Darren?” I stammered trying to wrap my head around the words taken aback by the sudden statement. Darren stepped closer , brought his lips towards my ear and whispered. “ You can never match up to Morgan “ he said coldly, cutting me short which struck me like lethal poison. Something stirred in my chest crumbling like ashes drifting into nothing. My hands curled into fists with rage peeking into my soul as a wicked grin stretched across his face. “ Alpha Darren” Morgan called softly with hatred sizzling in her eyes as she looked at me. He held her hands affectionately with his gaze resting on her. And with that,he turned exiting the corridor followed by cheers erupting behind them. Just like that,my world collapsed.Natalie POVThe profound, intoxicating sweetness of the healed bond rippled through my veins like liquid gold, driving the last remnants of the subterranean chill from my bones. Our fur remained pressed together, a stark contrast of midnight black and moonlight silver under the blinding dawn sun. Richard’s heavy, rhythmic breaths vibrated against my ribs, his massive beast completely subdued by the ancient, undeniable pull of the primal lineage. But the peace was a fragile illusion, a momentary pause in a court surrounded by executioners.“Natalie,” Selene whispered, her emerald gaze sharp within my mind as she monitored the environment. “The vanguard is recovering. Their fear is turning into strategic positioning. We cannot stay shifted in the open.”A sharp, defensive click from the upper terrace shattered the spell.Beta Marcus stood by the stone railing, his silver broadsword raised, his face twisted into a mask of pure, calculated desperation. "Archers, level weapons! The Alpha i
Natalie POVThe blinding glare of the dawn sun struck my eyes like a physical blow as Marcus shoved me out onto the stone observation terrace. The crisp, biting mountain air rushed into my lungs, cold as shaved ice, instantly cutting through the lingering stench of the subterranean cells.Below the terrace, the grand courtyard of the Blackwood estate had been transformed into a sea of absolute silver.Three full battalions of the elite vanguard stood in rigid, flawless formations, their polished breastplates and raised spears catching the first golden rays of the morning sun. In the dead center of the courtyard stood the gallows—a massive, skeletal structure of dark oak, its thick hemp noose swaying gently in the freezing mountain wind.Darren was dragged to the base of the wooden steps by two towering vards. His knees gave out entirely, his boots dragging uselessly through the light dusting of snow on the stone. He looked up at the noose, his face turning an asymmetric shade of gray
Natalie POVThe heavy iron door of the isolation block remained closed after they dragged Richard’s bleeding, broken form up the stone stairs. The suffocating heat of the crucible slowly faded, leaving behind the familiar, creeping chill of the bedrock and the stench of burnt silk.I lay on my side in the corner of the cell, my bound hands tucked tightly against my lower abdomen. The physical burn from the extraction iron was a sharp, localized sting against my skin, but the spiritual ache from the fractured contract was a hollow, echoing void that vibrated through my entire skeleton. Every time my heart beat, the snapped ends of the golden bond frayed a little more, sending cold tremors down my spine.“We survived,” Selene whispered, her voice a fragile, trembling thread in the back of my mind. “The little spark... it is still holding on, Natalie. But the Blackwood link is bleeding out.”"I know," I breathed silently into the dark, my fingers pressing through the torn velvet of my dr
Natalie POVThe heavy oak door of my cell didn't just swing open; it shrieked against the stone floor like a dying animal.Richard stepped over the threshold, the glowing, red-hot extraction iron held firmly in his right hand. The white-hot silver tip cast long, terrifying shadows across the damp walls, painting the narrow room in the colors of an active furnace. The intense, metallic scent of heated silver combined with his suffocating cinnamon and chocolate aroma, making my throat tighten in a violent spasm of morning sickness."Step back, Richard," I breathed, my back pressing hard against the rough bedrock of the rear wall. My hands, bound tightly in the heavy silver cuffs, instinctively dropped over my lower abdomen, shielding the fragile six-week-old heartbeat with my own flesh.“He is going to do it, Natalie,” Selene whispered, her inner wolf voice cracking with a primitive, absolute despair.“The contract... it’s completely unspooling. It’s turning into ice.”"There is nowhere
Natalie POVThe three hours passed not in minutes, but in the slow, agonizing drip of water against the subterranean stone. Every second felt like a heavy weight pressing down on my chest, compressing the air in my lungs until each breath was a ragged chore. The silver cuffs around my wrists had stopped stinging; my skin had gone completely numb, the cold metal binding my spiritual energy so tightly that I could barely feel Selene’s presence inside my mind. She was huddled deep in the dark, wrapped around the tiny, fragile spark of life in my womb, shivering like a dying flame in a winter gale.“They are coming, Natalie,” she whispered, her voice barely a vibration against my consciousness. “The iron... I can smell the furnace from here.”I didn't answer her. I couldn't. I sat rigidly in the corner of the stone cell, my torn emerald silk gown pooled around me like spilled blood, my eyes fixed entirely on the heavy iron door at the end of the corridor.Suddenly, the massive iron locks
Natalie POV The subterranean isolation cells were stripped of all comfort, carved out of the raw bedrock beneath the mansion where the light of the sun never penetrated. The air was heavy with the choking stench of rust, stale copper, and the damp chill of mountain water seeping through the cracked stone walls.I was violently shoved through the iron-reinforced door, my hands bound before me in heavy silver cuffs that hissed against my skin, sending a constant, dull wave of burning heat through my veins. I collapsed onto the freezing stone floor, the wet velvet of my gown tearing further as I rolled onto my side, gasping for breath. The iron door slammed shut behind me with a deafening, metallic echo that reverberated through the narrow corridor. The heavy deadbolts clicked into place, sealing me into the dark.I lay in the dirt for a long moment, my chest heaving as a violent, hot surge of morning sickness tore through my throat. With my hands bound in silver, I couldn't channel eno
