We were just about finished eating when I suddenly remembered the flyer I had stuffed into my bag. The edges were a bit crumpled from being shoved in between notebooks, but those neon letters still stood out, obnoxiously bright. I pulled it out and slid it across the blanket toward Frank, noticing his eyebrows raise as he read it.

"Carlisle’s party?" he repeated slowly, almost as if the paper might explode. "You... got invited?"

"Looks like it," I replied, making a face. "Still trying to figure

Frank swallowed hard, the shock mixing with a familiar knot of anger and helplessness. He hated the tone Logan used, as if reminding him of every flimsy excuse for power he thought he had."I didn’t do anything wrong," Frank said quietly, though he felt his voice crack and hoped Logan didn’t notice. "It’s just a party. I’ll be home before midnight.""No," Logan repeated coldly, his lips curling into a sneer. "You kids think life’s one big joke. Your father put me in charge of this house, and I’m not letting you embarrass the company again."Frank tensed...again was the word his used.Frank forced his expression to stay neutral, even as his stomach twisted."This isn’t about the dealership," he said quietly. "You’re just trying to control me. I’m not a kid anymore."Logan took a slow, heavy step closer until less than a foot separated them."You’ll leave this house when I say you can leave," Logan hissed. "And tonight, yo

  • My Enemy [BL]   One Fifty Five

Third Person POV Frank stood in front of his mirror, the soft lamplight spilling across his bedroom and casting a warm glow on the mess scattered across the floor — discarded shirts, belts, one lone shoe he still couldn’t find the pair to. He normally didn’t care about parties like this. In fact, he hated them. Carlisle’s parties were always filled with self-entitled jerks, cliques that fed on gossip, and people who treated popularity like a currency. But tonight felt different, because Atlas would be there. He tugged the hem of his black sweater into place, smoothing out the creases. He’d chosen it after cycling through almost everything he owned. Not too flashy. Not too plain. Something that would make Atlas’s eyes linger on him the way he sometimes did before looking away shyly. He muttered to himself as he tried fixing his hair again, "Why am I even trying this hard? It’s Carlisle’s stupid party." Then he

For a few moments, I just stared at the name on the page, almost like it was glowing. My heart raced, and my mind was already racing ahead, imagining all the things Rachel might share with us, picturing who L.S. really was, and pondering why Carla had ended up dead. It felt like the ground had shifted beneath me."We could go there now," Rowan suddenly suggested.I snapped my head up. "Now?"He shrugged, but his casual demeanor didn’t match the intensity in his eyes, which were sharp and almost eager for answers. "Yeah. She’s only thirty minutes away. If we leave now, we’ll be there before dinner."And deep down, a part of me kind of wanted to agree. I was buzzing with adrenaline. This whole investigation had been filled with dead ends and shadows, and suddenly we had something concrete. Something tangible. But just as I was about to say, ’let’s go,’ reality hit me hard.Carlisle’s party. The whole annoying drama of bein

For a moment, I thought about Frank’s eyes when he told me he loved me...warm, open and sincere.Rowan’s stare wasn’t like that at all. It felt sharper, heavier, as if he was holding back something that might tear him apart. But then he blinked, and just like that, the intensity faded behind a mask of calm."...Yeah," he said quietly. "There’s nothing else."A tiny smile tugged at my lips before I could help it, humor creeping into my voice. "You’re lying."That made him actually smile...a small, reluctant one that he never let anyone else see. The kind that softened his eyes just a bit and told me he knew I’d caught him, even if he’d never admit it."Then prove it," he challenged softly. "Come on, hamster. Let’s see what you’ve got."I laughed, really laughed this time and some of the weight between us lifted. "Oh, I will," I grinned, crossing my arms and trying not to look like a total dork. "Just give me a little time

For what felt like an eternity, we just stood there, locked in a stare across the hallway. Neither of us moved, and that silence was so tense, it felt like a thin sheet of glass separating us. Finally, Rowan broke the spell, his voice low and uncertain."Hey."I was so taken aback that I almost forgot how to respond."Hi," I managed to mumble, my eyes darting everywhere but his, focused on the wall, the banister, the chandelier, even the carpet fibers. The moment I glanced in his direction, my mind betrayed me, dragging up that ridiculous daydream from the day before. You know, the one where he had me pinned against the wall like a scene from a K-drama, whispering in my ear like he owned every ounce of me.I swallowed hard, mentally shoving that whole scenario away and locking it up tight.Rowan shifted his weight and rubbed the back of his neck in that awkward way he rarely did, only when he was feeling nervous, guilty, or attem

I ended up crashing at Millie’s that night, curled up on her ridiculously comfy couch, surviving two painfully cheesy romance flicks and a show about a hapless kid getting sucked into another dimension by creepy shadow monsters. There was also a bald girl who could toss vans with her mind, which honestly kept me awake longer than I wanted to admit. But come episode five, my eyelids gave up the fight, and I drifted off to Millie cursing the screen because her favorite character made a dumb choice. When I woke up the next morning, sunlight was streaming through Millie’s pale blue curtains, and she was already up, munching on cereal and humming like it was the most peaceful Saturday ever. It took me a moment to remember it was Saturday, the day of Carlisle’s party. The party I still had no clue why I was invited to.As I wrestled with my crazy bed head, Millie leaned against the kitchen counter, giving me wardrobe advice like she was some overworked

Frank and I strolled down the quiet hallway during free period, our footsteps echoing softly against the tiled floor. I still couldn’t believe it—I was actually paired up with him. Of all people, the universe decided to throw me together with Frank Carrington. He was animatedly sharing stories abou

By the time I got home, I couldn’t shake this huge smile off my face—it felt like it was there to stay. Honestly, I didn’t even try to wipe it away. My cheeks hurt, my chest felt light, and it was totally ridiculous. But I didn’t care at all. Frank Carrington had actually asked me out. On a date.C

By four in the afternoon the next day, I was still pacing my room like a total bundle of nerves, trying to convince myself this wasn’t a date. It was just two friends going to the carnival, right? But deep down, I knew it was a date. No matter how much I tried to downplay it to ease my nerves, my h

Millie’s voice rang through the hallway like a siren. "Wait—what?! You’re just now telling me you’re working with Frank Carrington? Frank freaking Carrington?"I almost dropped the books I was holding. "Can you not yell that out for the whole school to hear?" I whispered, glancing around as a coupl
