Chapter 3

I must have a plan B to slow down Linda. Something or someone that Linda can't run over. The last time I used the wrong person was Coen, the innocent-looking boy back in elementary. I thought she would stop to say "excuse me" to the nice human boy but no. She totally ran him over and chased me leaving him on the floor confused about why he was overpowered by the shortest girl in elementary.

Then I remember Riley. He has the same class as Linda next and he always waits for her beside the door. If that doesn't work, then just hope I can run fast.

I stared at the clock, not paying attention to the teacher. Just 5 more seconds and I'll be out of this class then go to my next class without Linda glaring at me from time to time.

The bell rang.

I got up, picked up my things, and quickly rushed out of the classroom. I quickly grab the familiar dark brown hair boy leaning on the lockers as usual. "Hey, Riley!" I said. He looked at me then smiled.

"Oh hey-" I cut him off because I was in a hurry. If you're wondering why Linda is taking so long I kinda hid her stuff when she wasn't looking. Not in one place by the way.

"Do me a favor and distract Linda for a few minutes?" I said fast. He looked confused. Before he could ask, I saw Linda coming my way. She found all of them?! I moved around Riley and blend in with the crowd

I yelled out "thanks" then ran to my locker. I could hear some of their conversation with my werewolf hearing. "Hey, babe-"

"I know what you're doing and let me tell you it's not working. Now move" she says and moved around him but Riley blocked her.

"No," was Riley's response. I could tell Linda was getting annoyed.

"Move or you're not getting anything tonight " she threatened.

"Trust me it's you who will not be getting anything tonight" he challenged

"Is that a challenge?" Wow. Riley is really good at distracting Linda. In a weird way but still, I should really hire him someday.

"Sam!" I looked to my right to see my other best friend, Christina Valentine.

Christina Valentine has dirty blonde hair, longer than Linda's hair. She has bright blue eyes and perfect skin. She is sweet, nice, funny, and loyal. She loves books a lot. Seriously, when someone drops her favorite book, she'll punch you, and let me tell you that her punch hurts like hell. Every Friday night, she goes out and takes boxing sessions and self-defense practices. And did I mention that she is the pack trainer?

"Christina!" I said then hugged her.

"Happy birthday!" she said then hugged me back. Christina paused and said, "And why do you smell like Ryder?"

"Thanks-wait what do I do?" I asked as I pulled away. She looked at me head to toe. Wondering if something of his was on me or with me.

"Yeah,'' she said. "Did he fall on you or something because the scent is strong?"

"Um......" I thought of telling her or not. She saw the hickey I tried hiding behind my brown hair. She gasped like she just thought of something bad.

"No way. You two are mates!" she said then I covered her mouth then looked around if anybody heard that. "Fhgsfhndhdvsjs!"

"What?" I asked then pulled my hand away.

"I said I thought you two hate each other," she said. I nodded furiously. "But your mates," she reached out and covered the hockey with more of my hair.

"I know-oh no my brother. He's gonna freak out when he finds out about this." I said then started to freak out.

Christina gave me a worried look. "Don't worry he won't find out-"

The bell rung

"Come on we'll talk later," she said then we walked to our next class

Our next class was Biology. I wasn't listening because I was still worried once the day was over. But before that, I still have classes and lunch. I guess I have to dodge Linda again and a certain someone. Ryder. I can't trust him or myself right now. Who knows what could happen.

The morning went fast.

I spent my lunch eating outside the entrance of the football field. Lonely, I know but I feel down and a bit confused. I needed a break. Dodging Linda wasn't easy. Neither is dodging your mate that'll reject you. I would be one of those rejected girls but still, see your mate around because he is your brother's best friend. Then he'll have girlfriends and- wait why am I thinking?

I hate him. I shouldn't feel sad. I should be happy that he is going to reject him because he would only cause me trouble. He and I would only be mistaken. "I hate him," I told myself. But something tells me otherwise. I groaned. What's wrong with me?

A smell filled my nose. It was Ryder's smell. I froze. Why? Why? Why here? I got up and left my lunch on the ground. I circled to find an escape. It was a big field. You can't hide or run from a werewolf. Plus, they can still smell you so there is no escape for me. The only escape is...

I look up. Now if I climb up to the 2nd floor, I can escape. I never tried it before but hey. There is a first time for anything, and I have no time anymore. Ryder was getting closer.

I backed away and jumped. I hang onto the wall. The school wall wasn't the plain kind. It's the red kind of brick wall with space in between. So, I climbed up and reached the 2nd-floor window. Thank God, it wasn't locked.

I opened the window then shut it quickly. I breathed in and out in relief. I made it out. "Sam?" I turned to see Bruce holding up some papers and he looked confused. "What are you doing? Did you just come in through the window?"

"N-No," I stuttered. His eyebrows went down. I started walking to the door. "Good talk. um..See you History."

"Sam," Bruce stopped me. I turn to look at him. Bruce gave me a solemn look. "Next time, you should be aware of your surroundings. You could have been exposed. You will give us a hard time blending in."

"I know." I sighed. Count on Bruce to lecture you. Our school isn't a werewolf school. Humans also got to this school. There are werewolves here, but we try not to cause any suspicion. We try to keep a low profile and that includes PE werewolves' class, so no one would suspect a thing when we show our speed and strength. "It won't happen again. I promise."

I left the room, and I was face to face with Riley. "Oh-hey Sam. Where have you been?" Linda wasn't with him. "Linda went early to Biology class. She is kinda mad at me because I stopped her from chasing after you."

I sighed in relief. "Thank you for doing that."

"Can I ask you why?" Riley asks. I took a sharp breath.

"You know...girl stuff," I said and we headed to our next class.

"You were always a bad liar, Sam." we went inside and just in time. The bell rang and the room was filled up with students.

The rest of the afternoon went smoothly. I had classes with Xavier then with Bruce. The last period was with Ryder. I skipped that. I told my last teacher that I had a stomach and she sent me to the clinic.

When it was time to go home, I went to the parking lot. "Hey Christina, you go ahead to my house and call Linda and bring her with you," I said as I put my bag inside Christina's car. I have to explain what's going on with Linda. Before I would tell her, the rejection will already be done. And I needed my best friend for that.

"Where are you going?" she asked. I wanted to walk. It wasn't that far so I'll be fine. It helps me sometimes to calm down. But I have to make one more stop.

"To the woods. I dropped my earphones there." I spoke.

"Okay, but hurry," she urged me. She got in the car and pulled out of the parking lot.

"Okay," I mumbled as I watched as she drove away. I walked to the woods to where I dropped my earphone. After minutes of searching, I kicked the pile of fallen leaves and took a couple of steps ahead. "Where is it, I swear I dropped it her-"

Then suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I stopped walking and bent a little, holding my stomach then took a deep breath. Then I felt another pain in my left leg causing me to fall to the ground. I Leaned to the nearest tree then touched my leg where the pain was and whimpered. Why does it hurt a lot? Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I'm turning.
