Chapter 4

Author: Warm Heart
Over the weekend, my mother took Noah to the amusement park. Vivian and I both happened to take the day off.

"Honey, we haven't had any alone time in so long. Why don't we go to that shooting range behind the university district? You were such a sharpshooter back in college!"

Vivian tied her hair up and changed into a clean, practical athletic outfit.

I looked her up and down. I could tell she was filled with anticipation.

Her athletic shoes from college sat in a prominent spot. Despite their age, she had kept them in pristine condition, and they practically gleamed.

When I stood there without moving, she gathered her courage and took my hand. She led me to the entryway and gently guided me to sit on the small bench.

Vivian knelt on the floor and carefully helped me put on my shoes, tying the laces with tender care.

Her every move seemed like the epitome of a devoted wife.

"Honey, you're almost exactly the same as you were in college. When we get back, let's have a candlelit dinner. Even I get romantic sometimes."

I looked down at her, refusing to play along with her script.

"I'm not going, and I'm not having a candlelit dinner with you either. Just looking at your face makes me sick. I can't even eat."

Her pupils contracted in shock, and her eyes brimmed with tears. But her hands kept moving, continuing to tie my shoelaces just as I had done for her back when we were in school.

She sat on the couch in a daze, numbly watching some mindless TV drama.

When lunchtime rolled around, she thoughtfully made me a bowl of seafood pasta. Then she went back to her room to upload another video.

Vivian's followers were extremely engaged. Within five minutes of posting, the comments poured in.

"What a jerk! What does she have to do to make him smile? Even royalty isn't this demanding."

"From what I've heard, Elijah has alienated everyone around him. Nobody in real life wants anything to do with him anymore."

"No wonder. He takes out all his frustrations on his wife. What a loser!"

That afternoon, I took a nap. When I woke up and left my room, Vivian stood on the balcony with her phone, arguing with whoever was on the other end.

When she caught sight of me from the corner of her eye, she quickly hung up. She hurried over to me, asking how I was feeling and fussing over me.

I was used to it by now.

Seeing that I was not angry, Vivian rushed into her room and changed into a seductive dress.

Right in front of me, she curled her hair, trimmed her nails, and removed any unwanted hair. She made herself look absolutely stunning, radiating charm from head to toe.

After finishing her grooming, she poured two glasses of red wine. Before she even took a sip, two rosy circles appeared on her cheeks.

"Honey, we haven't been intimate in so long. Back in college, when we first slept together, my mom found out and almost went to the school to confront you. I was the one who convinced her to trust you.

"You had nothing back then. But I was right to choose you. Now we can afford a big house and nice cars.

"You even joked at our wedding reception that you wanted me five times a week. All my friends were impressed."

Vivian draped herself against me like she had no bones, leaning on my shoulder.

She breathed hotly against my ear, her hands exploring my body. She was doing everything she could to offer herself to me.

"Honey, hold me."

I looked at her with a half smile. Then I put my hands around her waist and whispered something so quietly it was barely audible.

Vivian looked thunderstruck, her eyes filled with disbelief.

"Why?"

The fans at the hospital were all glued to their phones, eagerly devouring the drama. The live stream chat exploded."Don't keep it to yourselves! Show us! Elijah has all the evidence. Have we been played for fools by Vivian?""This woman is so calculating. She cheated in secret, got pregnant, and wanted her husband to raise it as his own. What man could tolerate that?"Vivian's tears streamed down her face. She dropped to her knees and bowed repeatedly."Honey, I had no choice! I'm just a woman. I'm not as strong as him!"He threatened me with the video. Please don't divorce me. I don't want to be a laughingstock online!"Smack! Paulina slapped Vivian across the face."Drop the act. You're no daughter of mine! Where is your shame?"Vivian looked stunned from the slap."Mom, you're not taking my side?""Don't call me Mom. You've humiliated yourself in front of the entire country."You told me Elijah wanted a divorce. I asked you if there was a third party in your marriage. W

The fans were furious, hurling insults at me. In their eyes, I had become a perverted creep.I looked at Paulina with a cold laugh."If anyone drugged the wine, it was your daughter."Her belly is already showing. If she didn't resort to these dirty tricks, how could she keep up this act?"Everyone present was shocked by these words.Paulina was outraged. "Elijah, you're saying my daughter drugged you?"What gives you the right to say the child isn't yours? Even if you want revenge, you can't use such an absurd excuse."I watched the hospital entrance, timing everything carefully. My parents rushed in, holding a thick stack of documents.Claire followed close behind them. She gave me a nod.I raised my voice. "Everyone, I'm going to create a group chat. The content inside will prove that Vivian cheated."Unable to contain their curiosity, they filled the chat to capacity in an instant."What you're seeing is a video of Claire's husband and the supposedly innocent Vivian chec

"Five months pregnant."The noisy chatter stopped dead in that instant. The live stream chat was flooded with so many comments that the screen was unreadable."Pregnant! Am I remembering things wrong?""Vivian and her husband haven't been intimate in three years. When did she get pregnant?""I'm Vivian's coworker. Five months ago, she was on a business trip. Did Elijah go with her?"The live stream chat began questioning the doctor's competence. The doctor immediately lost her temper. With all the attention online, questioning her medical skills could ruin her career."First of all, my eyesight is perfectly fine. If I couldn't even diagnose a pregnancy, I shouldn't be a doctor at all."Second, she looks slim because she's been wearing a waist trainer to hide it. If you don't believe me, go to another hospital. I'm willing to stake my entire career on this."Paulina felt her head splitting. She called me relentlessly. When I arrived at the hospital, I spread my hands. "Do I re

Vivian retched off camera, then clutched the trash can and vomited violently. The intense sounds alarmed her followers. But my expression showed this was long overdue.I walked over to Vivian, picked up the phone, and flipped the camera around so her followers could see what was happening to her."That's Elijah, isn't it? Your wife is throwing up. She's obviously exhausted from working so hard for you, and you still have the nerve to make us watch? You should be helping her right now.""Monster! Absolute monster! I'm calling an ambulance!""This man deserves to be drawn and quartered!"Vivian's face was pale, and she could barely walk. Her back was hunched like a shrimp, her eyes were bloodshot, and tears streamed down her face from the strain.Anyone could see how much pain she was in.I set the phone flat on the table. The live stream only showed the ceiling now. When they heard the sound of water being poured, the insults directed at me lessened slightly."At least he has

Vivian set a fixed streaming schedule. She went live before lunch and after dinner. The time in between was when I ate my meals. The moment I left my room, Vivian became anxious and tried everything to please me.Paulina had not left yet. She had been cooking all our meals for the past three days.Vivian explained the reason on her stream. She was afraid of seeing displeasure on my face, so she would rather not cook than risk angering me.I had my mother pick up and drop off Noah, which gave Vivian more freedom in the house. The company also told me not to come into work, so I spent most of my time lying in bed watching her streams.Vivian appeared full of life on camera, as if she had forgotten all about my divorce proposal. During one broadcast, she mentioned that reporters wanted to interview her at home, but she politely declined. When Paulina was home, Vivian's streams consisted of chatting with her followers. She never badmouthed me during her streams. In fact, she even de

After Paulina finished shouting, her chest heaved violently. She hunched over, her blouse buttoned incorrectly. Her silver hair added to the tragic picture she made.I vaguely remembered the wedding. When her husband and she placed Vivian's hand in mine, the two of them had looked at me with such hope and expectation in their eyes.Back then, they had not looked much older than I was now.Paulina had always been someone who valued propriety and did everything in an orderly fashion. Only her daughter could make her lose her composure like this.I kept my face stony and said carelessly to Vivian, "What are you, a child? Running to mommy every time something happens?"Your parent is here to pick you up. Get out of my sight and make it quick."Paulina laughed bitterly, her anger reaching new heights. But I quickly retreated into my room and locked the door.Paulina cursed at me a few times. When she saw that neither gentle persuasion nor harsh words would work, she sat down on the c
