Bella.
“You deserve to have a great time Bella, and what better time to celebrate than now?” Audrey, my best friend shrieked excitedly as she led me into the bar. There was some sort of party going on and she had been invited so she had dragged me along with her. “You finally got rid of that asshole and your life is finally back on track. We never got to celebrate the divorce back then but we can always do so now,” she added and after that, she ordered shot after shot of vodka. Things were now so much different then they were six months ago and Audrey was right, I needed to take a step back, catch my breath and celebrate how far I had come. She made sure I drank so much that I eventually lost my reserved self and even agreed to sing a song at the bar. Audrey had planned the whole thing and the regular me would have been so nervous to do that because I had never sang in front of a crowd before but the alcohol helped with my nerves and I felt so much better when everyone applauded enthusiastically for me at the end of the song. After all that drinking, I desperately needed to use the bathroom so as soon as I got off stage, I headed towards the restroom. I was close enough to the door when I noticed there was someone behind me. I almost screamed when someone grabbed my arm and yanked me back but to my surprise, it wasn’t anything serious, it was Dominic. After six months, seeing him again at a bar was not what I had planned. Remembering how he had expected me to beg and had treated me so badly because his ex came back, I had no idea how I was supposed to react to seeing him again. So when he rudely and authoritatively asked me where I had been for the past six months, I ignored the question. “Let go of me.” I struggled to free my hand from his grip but it was of no use. “Answer my question Bella, where have you been? I have looked everywhere for you, do you have any idea how uncomfortable it was for me to spend my time looking for you when…” “Why exactly where you looking for me?” I interjected with an angry voice, “we are divorced, remember? Besides, you told me never to come back and never to reach out.” “Bella I…” “Just let go of me Dominic.” No matter how hard I tried to free myself from him or how loudly I yelled at him to let go, he simply refused to and our little ruckus in front of the bathroom was causing a scene. The crowd had already noticed us and a bunch of people were already staring in our direction. Ted and David rushed forward and managed to pull Dominic away from me. I recognized the both of them because they were Dominic’s friends and were mostly around him. “Woah… woah… let’s all calm down, we don’t need to cause any scene.” David said to Dominic before he turned to me with a surprised expression on his face, “It’s really you Bella.” “Oh My God! Its been so long and you sing so well.” Ted joined in. Dominic opened his mouth to say something in protest when his phone began to vibrate in his hands and he glanced at me briefly as if he was contemplating if he should take the call or not before he answered the phone and stepped away from us a bit. “Pardon my manners but where have you been? It’s so good to see you again.” Ted sounded a little too excited and even tried to hug me but I stepped away from him. “Nothing must, just been around. Listen guys, it’s really great to see you all again but I have a friend with me and she will be worried sick by now. We were supposed to be on our way out so I must catch up with her.” I explained to them and didn’t even wait for their response before I began to walk away. I wanted to get away from them, as fast as I could. I had barely taken two steps forward when someone called out loudly, “Stop right there!” Dominic’s voice sounded all around me. I stopped but not because he asked me to but because I was angry. He had treated me like I had meant nothing to him, discarded me so easily as soon as his ex lover came back and now, even after everything, he had the audacity to act like he still had some sort of control over me. I could hear it in his tone, he thought I was the same woman that had lived in his house as his wife and obeyed his every whim, taken care of him like he was her entire world only for him to turn around and stab her in the back. “You know I actually thought she was different but nope, it’s still the same old Bella, the ever obedient Bella.” I overheard David whisper to Ted and I gritted my teeth angrily. He was so wrong, Without a word, I turned around and walked back towards Dominic. “You still haven’t…” I didn’t even let him speak neither did I bother to listen to what he had to say before I landed a heavy slap on his right cheek. His friends and the other people around us gasped in shock after my palm made contact with his face but I didn’t care, “Are you deaf? I said I am leaving,” I reiterated and the anger that flashed across his eyes as he glared at me should have sent a shiver down my spine but it didn’t because it didn’t matter who he was, what mattered was who I had become- The one person he never saw coming.Bella’s POV.“There is absolutely nothing to forgive grandma. Dominic respects and adores you more than anyone else in the entire world, he would never blame or criticize you for anything and neither will anyone else because you made him into the strong man he is today. He only wanted to make you proud grandma and he carried that burden alone because he didn’t want to bother you, I would have done the same.” I rushed over to her side and held both her hands in mine.“He is right outside your door, worried sick and he couldn’t face you because he feels like a failure. But you of all people know he is not and neither are you a failure, you raised him grandma and you should never see that as a failure.” I added with a weak smile and she sniffled as I wiped away her tears.“Why exactly did you sign those divorce papers Bella?” She suddenly asked and I was taken aback by her question but quickly recovered.“Because you cannot force a man to stay when he doesn’t want to.” I squeezed her han
Bella’s POV.“She has been in her room the entire day. The maids said she has not even touched the water talk more of the food. She has refused to speak or see anyone else.” Linda said as she followed us inside.“Dominic is here now, I am sure she will speak to him.” I replied confidently as I turned to him with a small smile on my face, “I’ll go inside with you but you take the lead, okay.”He nodded. He hesitated for a bit but he soon managed to bring himself to knock on her door,“Grandma, it’s me, Dominic. Please open the door.” He called out but there was no response.I turned to Linda, “is there a spare key so we can open the door?”“Yes, her personal maid has it with her, that’s how she takes in food and water but she won’t give anyone else. She said grandma instructed her not to let anyone in so she won’t release the keys to anyone.” She replied.“Can you call her?”“Sure.” She immediately turned to one of the staff in the house and instructed him to call grandma’s personal ma
Bella’s POV.“I was so stupid for losing you Bella and I never should have walked away from our marriage.” His voice was heavy and filled with anguish, regret and longing, as if the weight of his mistakes bore down on him with every syllable.Hearing him say those words with such sincerity in his voice made my heart flutter in a way I know it shouldn’t but I was helpless.“That’s not why I am here Dominic,” I responded, pulling away from him and putting some distance between us so his scent would stop getting into my head.“Then why are you here? Why stay married to me and let my family treat you that way even when you knew you could have easily walked away from everything? Why stay with me Bella? Why marry me when you could have had any other man of your choice?” He asked, his eyes holding mine with such intensity that forced me to look away from him.Drawing deep breaths, I turned around and walked over to my car.“How’s grandma holding up?” I inquired, intentionally changing the li
Bella’s POV.“Bella! Bella!” Audrey’s voice rang out in her apartment and I was forced to glance up from my phone just in time to see her running towards me while waving her phone wildly in the air.“You need to see this.” She said, almost toppling over as she came to a halt beside me.“What? What could possibly have you running like that? Let me guess, he finally asked you out on a date?” I asked, looking up at her with enthusiasm because I knew she was so much into this strange man she had met through social media. He had sent a message with an anonymous account and even though she had tried to be careful and suspicious of him, she had grown to enjoy talking to him and ever since then, I’ve been watching her talk to him day and night with such a wide smile on her face.No one had ever been able to make Audrey smile that much, not even me!But I was worried, he was still just a stranger.“I am coming with you on that date and I promise to keep my distance. I just want to make sure yo
Dominic’s POV.“So, Miss…”“Miss Andrea,” the blonde haired woman said as she rose to her feet and began to pass some papers around to everyone seated at the table, including me.“What’s going on? What’s this?” I questioned her as everyone else shared glances among themselves,“My employer, as you know, is the reason your company was able to pull through such serious debts and is the only reason why your mansion is still your property.” Andrea began, holding my gaze as she spoke.“As you all know, one of the major terms of our agreement was that my employer gets to own a small amount of the company’s shares.” She continued and the way she spoke made me feel uncomfortable.“So what? Where is this headed?” One of the men snapped at her.“Listen, we’re very busy people and last I checked, your employer got a small amount of shares for loaning us the money, that doesn’t give you or your employer the right to attend a board meeting or have a say in it. Dominic’s POV.A whole week went by and Bella was still refusing to see me or speak to me on the phone. All my lines were blocked and it seemed like she had gotten a new line just so I wouldn’t be able to reach her.“Oh come on, you’re going to be this miserable because she’s not talking to you? Come on man, let’s go out and get drunk, they’re a lot of women out there.” Ted advised as he tried to pull me away from my desk but I snatched my arm away from him.“I lost her,” I mumbled inaudibly, “she was right there in front of me this entire time and I lost her. I threw divorce papers in her face after she stayed with me when Vivian turned her back on me. She gave up a whole lot of things to be with me Ted, what kind of woman does that?”Ted stared at me for a while but when he realized that I wouldn’t budge from where I sat, he gave up and returned to his seat in front of me.“You’re right, after all you just told me, it makes no sense that she’ll give up her life as a heiress and CEO
Dominic’s POV.“He was at her apartment late at night.” The strange man who Vivian had introduced me to and who was now working secretly for me, said.I looked up at him from across the table in a cafe down the street from the office. He had asked for a meeting while I was at work and since I wasn’t so sure about the deal I had with him, I settled for meeting him somewhere no one would see and without informing anyone, not even my assistant.“What do you mean by that?”“I followed him around for a while and saw him go into her apartment, shortly after, a car pulled up in the parking lot and she got down from it. She headed up to her apartment there and didn’t return for a while. I have evidence.” He dipped his hand into the envelope by his side and pulled out some pictures that he placed on the table gingerly. With my eyes glued on him and a suspicious glance, I picked up the pictures and my eyes darkened when I saw David heading into Bella’s apartment building and the others were of
Bella’s POV.We intentionally waited until they had confirmed that she was awake before we made our way upstairs to her room. When we arrived, Linda, Vivian and Dominic’s mom were already there while grandmother was still bedridden but her eyes were wide open and Dominic was sitting right next to her on the bed, holding onto her hand tightly.Ted was already in the room but shortly after we stepped inside, David arrived with a gift basket.“You shouldn’t be here.” Linda said, looking me over with disdain.“Get out of here!” Dominic’s mother yelled at me as she began to walk towards me. Audrey was about to jump in front of me in defense when Dominic rose to his feet sharply,“Don’t speak to her like that.” His voice was firm and harsh.“I-Is that Bella?” Grandmother’s weak voice called out and I almost broke down in tears at the sound of her voice but I held myself together.“Yes grandma, it’s Bella and we should all be thanking her because she is the mystery doctor we’ve been searchin
