My parents were happy. They praised me for being so mature.

I packed my bags at night. Gwen came to my room, looking relieved.

“In the past weeks, I felt hesitant thinking about our engagement. I wondered if I should really go ahead with it.

“You have a bad temper and are timid. You get offended at Nate for the silliest pranks.

“But seeing that you’ve prepared gifts for Nate and your family, I’ve decided that I do want to be with you.”

I paused and looked up in disbelief.

My parents asked the doorman and found out that the white car had never left the parking lot.
