Lucien

“Dr. Roswood.”

Lucien rose from the couch as Jonah rode his wheelchair into the living room, carefully dropping the glass he was drinking from on a table. He ran his hands down his indoor shorts. “Jonah. Do you need anything?”

Jonah laughed—a deep, belly laugh as he waved his hand. “Please. Don’t get up for me. I’ll be pressured to do the same, and you’ve confined me to the wheelchair until further notice,” he joked.

Lucien chuckled as he sat back.

EvelineThe words left her lips before she knew she’d spoken. Shit. She slapped a hand over her mouth. “I didn’t…I didn’t…” she gave up trying to deny it after the second time, because she knew he could tell that she was lying. Lucien’s mouth curled with a smile. “Show me.”Eveline blinked multiple times in succession, her voice coming out as a surprised squeak. “What? You want me to show you? Here? Now?”They were outside a hall, where over a hundred people were in attendance—including her fiancé and her father-in-law. Surely he was joking? “Lucien?” He wasn’t looking at her with an amused expression, like he was seconds away from saying something else. It was the same look he gave her in the elevator before he had her against the wall, fighting for air and the raw hunger in his eyes when he had her pressed against the wall of his house, her nipples cold against the chilly glass. His gaze darted over her shoulder, and then he was pulling her off the balcony, into the garden hedg

Lucien Gerald was bound to show up on time for the charity gala, so Lucien did one thing his brother couldn’t do—that he would’ve loved a little less than having to disown his younger brother, but still enjoyed so much. He showed up late. Two hours after the time written in the email, when the event was in full swing. Someone was trying to be funny on stage, and the crowd was doing its best to show him support, with dry, scattered laughter and a few rounds of applause. Thankfully, he got the message as Lucien found a table at the end, with a few other medical professionals who looked like they’d been forced to attend. Residents? “Alright, everyone! I know I’m boring you up here, so we’re going to move to the fun part of tonight’s gala—the drinks.”That was enough to rouse the crowd again. “Dr. Roswood.” One of them recognized him as he tried to stand, her eyes going wide. “Oh, my god. It’s you, isn’t it?”He nodded, clearing his throat quietly. “Depends on which Roswood you’

Lucien Lucien paused at the nurses’ station, sliding the patient file into its slot. “Dr. Roswood.” “Belinda.” he nodded, curt but polite. “How’s the night shift treating you?” Nurse Belinda shook her head, exhaustion etched into the lines of her face. “Like a circus on fire. Two vomiting episodes, one ‘call security’ meltdown, and a patient who decided to walk out with a fresh bandage and a pending CT result still hanging in the system.” She let out a heavy sigh. “But that’s Tuesday for me.” She paused for a moment before leaning closer. Have you seen Eveline? I asked Jeremy, and he said she hadn’t been in all day.” Eveline. Lucien shook his head. He’d been buried in patients all day, covering for a colleague whose wife had gone into early labor. He hadn’t had time to think about her—except for the dozen moments when the image of her in that deep blue lingerie slipped uninvited into his mind, derailing his train of thought mid-sentence. Belinda’s brows drew together with g

Eveline The jump scare in the hallway that made Eveline flinch as she hurried down, glancing at her phone and praying she was late to work, was Shane. She stepped back, with her hand pressed to her chest. “Jesus. You scared the shit out of me. Wait…” she frowned, her mouth twitching to one side as she took a second, much better look at him. “Why are you dressed like that?” His hair was disheveled, his face was puffy, and he still had on the clothes from last night when they had dinner. Eveline made a face as her eyes landed on the food stain smack in the middle of his chest. Didn’t he have work to be at? He was the family’s hotshot lawyer, no? The one she couldn’t compare to, because she was his “little psychology student” and nowhere close to being a real doctor. According to his dearest mother. If only she could see her son right now. Eveline wasn’t interested in knowing what was going on. If he got fired or decided to take a day off work…it was his business, not hers.

“I don’t think Shane is good enough for my daughter.”Jonah hit him with the truth before he could sit. Lucien paused midway, then slowly sank. “I see…” he murmured. “You know it too, don’t you?” Jonah asked. He gripped the wine glass with both hands. “I heard about the incident. How he accused her of cheating with a doctor and punched him.”Lucien’s brow rose before he could hide his surprise. Jonah snorted. “I might be confined to this house and a few hospital visits, but you don’t think I won’t check on my daughter?” He took a big gulp as his voice hardened. “I don’t want them to get married.” He looked at Lucien, pain flashing through his eyes. “She deserves someone better, Dr. Roswood. Someone who’ll treat her with the respect she deserves.”Why was he looking at him? “You’re single, Doctor?”No. Lucien managed a nod as his thoughts raced. “Yes. By choice,” he added quickly, hoping it’d keep Jonah from saying his next words. “Eveline’s smart. She knew what she wanted to do

The PT had been going well, but they had a mishap two days ago, when he fell from the treadmill. Lucien had been away, following more clues on the person he’d been searching for, while his brother was distracted, trying to calm the waters that Shane Roswood stirred. He found out that Gerald’s presence at the diner had been accidental—he was supposedly meeting the owner of the run-down care home. But the other person never showed up. According to Patrick, enforcement agencies were looking for him on a couple of charges, so he w
