The doorbell rang.

Aaron and Lucas stepped in, both carrying that distinct charm. Aaron’s eyes immediately found you—concern flickering in his gaze for just a second before softening. Lucas, as always, beamed with his usual warmth.

“Little Evelyn,” Lucas teased, “Still looking like trouble wrapped in silk.”

I Smiled faintly. “Lucas,” I said, standing up to hug him. “It’s been too long.”

Aaron grinned behind him, sliding his hands into his pockets. “Missed me more, I hope,” he joked, winking.

Rolled your eyes, playfully leaning against him. “He’s got nothing on you.”

Enzo looked up from his paper, eyes narrowing just slightly at how my body relaxed around Aaron—at the easy laughter, the way his hand brushed my arm and stayed just a second too long. His jaw ticked, but he said nothing.

Lucas glanced at his watch. “Damn. My flight's in two hours, I gotta run. Just wanted to see you before heading back to frozen hell.”

  • My Forbidden Fruit    Chapter 36

The house was too quiet. That was the worst part. Quiet meant you could hear everything—the shifting of footsteps, the creak of doors, even the sound of your own thoughts, loud and unrelenting. I lay in my bed, covers tangled around my legs, heart pounding for no logical reason except that Enzo was just one hallway away… and I couldn’t see him.Not with Antonio and Lily here.I clenched my thighs together, frustrated at myself for being so aware. Of the echo of his voice at dinner, the soft command in his tone when he said, "Evelyn, pass the salt," and the way his eyes found mine over wine glasses and half-lies. Every word felt like a secret. Every stolen glance left a burn on my skin.I turned in bed, pressing my face into the pillow, willing myself to sleep. But my body wouldn’t listen.Neither would my heart. And then—barely audible—the door creaked open.My breath caught in my throat as my head jerked up.There, in the dim moonlight slicing through the curtains, stood Enzo.Silen

The sheets tangled around my legs, clinging like the memory of him.Enzo wasn’t next to me. But the warmth on the pillow, the subtle trace of his cologne in the air, the silence filled with something unspoken—it all told me he’d only just left. The sound of the shower running beyond the bathroom door reached me. Soft, rhythmic. Comforting, almost. Until the sharp vibration of his phone on the nightstand snapped through the air like a warning.I didn’t mean to look. I just… did.His screen lit up.Carol.Again. And again.“So you’re ignoring me now?”“Come on, baby. I know you’re mad… but I can make it up to you.”“I’m still wearing your shirt. Maybe I’ll take a picture and remind you what you’re missing.”Then it turned. Bitter. Vulgar.“You think that little girl can handle you? She’s a child. She’s not me.”The shame that twisted in my gut wasn’t because I read them—it was because I wanted to throw his phone across the room. Because I wanted her to know that I wasn’t going anywhere.

“Fuck this!!” he groaned. And then his lips met mine in fury, so fiercely that it might bruise.Desperate.Like he’d been holding back for too long. Like the guilt, the denial, the distance had all crumbled beneath the pressure of his want.My lips parted instinctively, a soft, startled sound escaped me as he devoured every inch of my breath. His hands left my throat only to frame my face, fingertips trembling.I melted into him. Arms curling around his neck. My legs wrapped around his waist like I was trying to tether myself to something real, something solid, even if it was forbidden. He stumbled slightly, gripping my thighs to lift me, carrying me across the room in a fevered haze until my back hit the mattress. His body hovered above mine, never breaking the kiss—not even once.I moaned—loud, raw—into his mouth, the sound pulling a groan from deep in his chest. His hand tangled in my hair, tugging just enough to bare my throat, and his lips immediately fell there.“I shouldn't wa

Evening light painted the living room in a soft amber glow. I stood near the door, arms folded loosely, watching Carol move around like a storm trapped in silk—loud sighs, aggressive zipping of her bags, high heels clicking with attitude.Enzo stood beside me, quiet but firm. His arms were crossed too, body angled slightly between me and her like he was trying to shield me from the last fragments of her presence.“This is ridiculous,” Carol muttered for the fifth time. “You think I care what people say? You think they don’t already assume we’re practically living together?”Enzo didn’t answer right away. His jaw was tight, eyes tired. When he did speak, his voice was low but final.“It’s not about what they assume. It’s about what they’ll confirm if you stay. You're a public figure, Carol. If someone sees you here again—after that scene today—there’ll be questions we can’t answer.”“And her being here doesn’t cause problems?” Carol snapped, tossing a pointed look my way.I didn’t flin

  • My Forbidden Fruit    Chapter 31

I shut the bathroom door behind me, but the echo of my heartbeat came with me. Loud. Relentless.I stood with my back against the door, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My skin was flushed. My lips trembled. My heart… was still in his hands. And I didn’t know what scared me more—giving it to him again, or that he’d never really returned it the first time.I gripped the marble sink edge, trying to ground myself, but nothing worked. I could still feel the imprint of his lips against my shoulder. The phantom heat of his hands, the weight of his head on my skin.Fifteen minutes passed. And I couldn’t move. Not really.I changed into one of the oversized shirts I kept for sleep—soft cotton that drowned my shape. But it didn’t matter. Nothing could erase what had already happened. Not the shirt. Not the walls I’d tried to build. Not the silence that came afterward. When I finally opened the door, my breath caught. He was still there. In the chair.Exactly as I’d left him.Only now, h
