Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
On the fifth day of my disappearance, Frank began to feel that something was off.

“Jonathan, Elena has not come to the police station for days, and things haven’t been particularly safe here. Elena is alone too…”

Jonathan pursed his lips. “Just ignore her. Let her act out all she wants this time.”

Since I was bored, I just stared at Jonathan while he busied himself. I sighed helplessly.

In reality, enough time had passed for Jonathan to report me missing, but I knew he would not look for me.

He had completely wasted the golden window.

As time passed, useful information on the body would start to deteriorate.

So, Jonathan had spent the past few days at the police station.

He was short on time and had to fight for every second with my dismembered parts to get as much information from them as possible. He had no time to care about my feelings.

This was not the first time I had argued with Jonathan, and it was also not the first time I had left without a word.

But whenever such arguments happened, I was usually the one admitting defeat.

I knew that Jonathan resented me. In the past, I had made a mistake at an autopsy on one particular corpse and missed the golden window to save Jonathan’s mother.

The criminals had staged a diversion. Their real goal had been Jonathan’s mother.

When I finished extracting the information from the corpse and deduced the killer’s location and identity, the police had found a new body.

The criminals had been lurking in the city all along.

When we saw the white sheet over his mother’s dead body, Jonathan went mad. He started to hate me ever since.

“It’s all your fault! Didn’t you say that they would find their next target in Artillia?! They had been setting us up all along!

“Elena, did you find any corpse in Artillia? You didn’t! Because they wanted to hurt you by hurting my mother! Didn’t you say that your knife can figure out the truth? How could you make such a mistake?!

“If you hadn’t made the wrong guess about their next target, my mother would still be alive!”

Jonathan grabbed me by the throat, and I could not breathe.

“You said that Artillia was the only city with that sort of soil, and what happened?!”

“Jonathan, calm down!”

“How can I calm down?! Elena, they’re taunting you! They hate you! You were the one who made a mistake and sent the police to Artillia!

“You’re the one who challenged them on TV and claimed that you’d bring them to justice! Did you catch them?!

“Why did my mother end up in their hands?! Your pride killed my mother! You’re not worthy of being a forensic scientist!”

My face was pale. When we arrived at the place where I had deduced they would leave behind the corpse of their next victim, we found no body at all. Instead, we were told that someone was killed in our city.

This time, the victim was Jonathan’s mother.

I changed into protective gear. No matter what, I had to figure out the truth.

There must be some sort of information on Jonathan’s mother, Nina.

Jonathan shoved me away. “Stay away from her!”

He stood in the morgue like a lost child, so I could only ask for someone to take him out of there.

My teacher once told me that forensic scientists must always remain logical and rational. Getting emotional in this field of work was a huge mistake.

Time was precious, and I had to make use of every second. I could not let the murderer escape justice.

I insisted on performing an autopsy on Nina.

Perhaps God was merciful, and I managed to find a lot of crucial information from her body.

This was a criminal group that tortured and killed women just for the thrill of it.

Based on the information I got from Nina, we captured several criminals.

While we were pursuing those who slipped through the net, I got into an accident.

“Elena, I never gave you the permission to perform an autopsy on my mother! Can’t you just let her rest in peace?!

“You’re a murderer too! They were right! You really are the daughter of a murderer!” Jonathan ran into my ward and yelled at me.

When I was discharged, I found that I could no longer hold a scalpel, so I resigned.

Jonathan took over my job.

“Serves you right! You’re not worthy of being a forensic scientist.”

I knew that I had let him down, along with Nina.

So, I quit and became a housewife.

Besides, Nina’s wish was for Jonathan to have a family of his own.

It was pouring heavily outside. “Jonathan, go home safely.” She smiled and handed him an umbrella. For some reason, it was raining like never before. Lightning crackled outside, and it struck fear in my heart. Jonathan took the umbrella and walked into the rain. If he had turned around, he would have seen his precious “sister” that he loved so much glaring at him with hate. “It’s time for me to leave.” As she stared at Jonathan, she smiled and said, “I hope you’ll love my present after you discover the truth, Jonathan.” But soon, she frowned. She received a message that her flight had been delayed due to the weather. “Damn it!” She stared at the rain as it became heavier. For some reason, she appeared quite panicky. Jonathan’s phone vibrated again. It was a call from Frank. “Jonathan, Elena didn’t make the wrong deduction that time. “We found a corpse in the wall at the place where she claimed the next crime scene would be. We also found a picture that I’m sendi

My memories resurfaced rapidly. I remember that I had injured my murderer’s wrist when I was fighting back. My teacher had once told me that a dismembered corpse was incredibly difficult to retrieve if the parts were disposed of using one particular method. I looked at the food container Jonathan intended to send back and trembled. When Jonathan raised his hand to knock on Yvonne’s door, I wanted to stop him, but I could not. “Jonathan? What is it?” “I’m here to return the soup.” “Huh? Didn’t you eat it?” Yvonne was a little surprised. “It’s fine. I have no appetite for meat lately.” Yvonne sighed and opened the fridge. The freezer contained a lot of fresh meat. It was all fresh pork. “I guess Lucky will have to enjoy these then.” I sighed in relief. It seemed like I had read too much into this. But Lucky, her dog, stared at the meat darkly and did not seem interested in it. I noticed dark red marks on its collar. Suddenly, I knew how Yvonne might have de

I silently followed Jonathan. He had never seen my parents before, so he was placing all his hopes on the photo. The police soon figured out who my mother was. They also figured out the identity of the man without the face, who was my father. The good news was that I was not the daughter of a murderer, but the bad news was that none of the people in the photo were alive anymore. “Elena is Captain Mark’s daughter? Captain Mark did not even register his marriage to protect his wife and daughter… “No one in their squad lived. “Some of the criminals Elena caught were part of the criminal group that murdered Captain Mark’s squad.” Liam wiped away a tear and sighed. “Elena’s just as stubborn as her father.” I was not a murderer’s daughter, and I finally understood why my mother wanted to hide my father’s identity. I also understood why I insisted on becoming a forensic scientist. Fate had already quietly laid out her plans for me a long time ago. With complicated emotions

“We’ll know whether it’s Elena once the DNA results are out,” said Frank as he looked at the dejected Jonathan. His tone was a little cold. He never thought that Jonathan, whom he respected, would hate Elena so much. But Elena had done nothing wrong. Forensic scientists had to race against the clock to uncover the truth, after all. “My shift has ended. I’m going home now. Tell me if you get any updates.” Jonathan changed out of his protective gear in a frenzy. He wanted to get away from this place. ‘Yes,’ he thought. ‘Elena must be working with the others to lie to me. Just like how she made people hold me back while she performed an autopsy on my mother! ‘Elena is a liar and a piece of trash.’ But the repeated calls he made on the way home betrayed the panic in Jonathan’s heart. He kept on trying to get confirmation to check if I was still alive, but I would not be able to answer his calls anymore. He rushed into our house. “Elena, stop joking around!” But all t

“Has Elena gone back home yet? I’ve been trying to call her, but she hasn’t answered.” “What’s wrong? She must have gone somewhere to collect her thoughts. She’s not replying to my messages either,” Jonathan said nonchalantly. When he saw how anxious Frank was, he frowned in annoyance. “Jonathan, just call Elena already!” Frank could no longer keep himself calm. He shouted at Jonathan. “What’s with all the noise?” Liam, who was resting, heard the commotion and walked in. “Captain, I suspect that the corpse in the autopsy room is Elena’s.” “Stop joking around, Frank!” Liam’s face turned uncharacteristically serious. “Johnathan, we haven’t seen Elena for quite some time. She always came by to drop food whenever you were working overtime, right? It’s been days since she last did that.” “That’s impossible. She sent me a text a few days ago.” Jonathan turned on his phone and came to the stark realization that the last time I had contacted him was a week ago. Coincidentally, it w

  • My Forensic Scientist Wife   Chapter 5

“Aren’t you going to eat, Jonathan?” Jonathan spared Frank a look and said coolly, “The corpse is more important.” Frank did not know how to convince Jonathan to eat. Jonathan was insisting on finding the murderer as if locked in a battle with himself. Frank knew about what had happened in the past. Due to misjudgment, Elena was unable to catch the criminals, which caused a tragedy. Later, Elena performed an autopsy on Nina, despite all the pressure on her shoulders. She had been unable to even hold a scalpel after that. Frank sighed. It had already been six days, and they still had no clue about the dismembered woman. He was beginning to miss Elena’s homemade meatballs. With a loud clatter, Jonathan’s scalpel fell on the floor. He cradled his stomach, and he looked up in pain. Jonathan’s gastritis was acting up again. Feeling resigned, Frank walked to the place where Elena had placed his gastritis medication. Ever since the accident, Elena had never stepped foo
