The sand slipped between the gaps in my toes. Without proper running shoes, I was forced to run barefoot on the beach side. The moon cast pale gray light on the coast. Heaving a huge breath, I paused, bending forward with my hands on my knees. My toes touch the wet sand where the waves lap the beach.

I couldn’t sleep. Memories of Kai and I kept me tossing and turning in my bed for days. It was past midnight. Apart from the crashing waters and the soft wisp of ocean breeze sweeping my hair, it was an eerie silence.
