Chapter 3

Author: Litchi Froot
Cillian's POV

Before I could process what was happening, Celine abruptly yanked me aside and demanded, "Marcus is your good friend! How could you cyberbully him?"

"I have no idea what you're on about!" I flung her hand away, but she scoffed and thrust her phone in my face.

A post on the campus forum had gone viral. Someone had posted photos of Marcus, accusing him of pretending to be my friend while secretly attempting to steal my girlfriend.

Celine looked at me with disappointment. "Marcus and I are only in a marriage of convenience. Did you really have to make things look so ugly? He's never looked down on you for being poor. If anything, he's gone out of his way to help you. How are you any different from an ingrate?"

I tried to explain that I hadn't done it, but she refused to believe me. Then the emcee called my name, and she spat, "You'll regret this!"

The graduation ceremony was livestreamed. I forced myself to remain calm and walked to the center of the auditorium. I'd just introduced myself when angry heckles suddenly erupted from the crowd.

"How disgusting! How can someone who plagiarized his thesis be an outstanding graduate?"

"Get off the stage!"

I turned around, only to see the PowerPoint presentation on the giant screen showing detailed evidence that I'd hired someone to write my thesis and cheated my way into being named valedictorian.

The audience erupted into an uproar, and I immediately denied the accusations. "This isn't true! I didn't do it!"

However, fearing the situation would spiral out of control, the school directly cut off my microphone. As the audience hurled insults at me, I was driven offstage and made an example of.

Celine crossed her arms and looked at me coldly backstage. I bit my lip hard, keeping my tears at bay. "Is this what you wanted? To destroy me?"

My vision blurred behind a veil of tears.

All of a sudden, I recalled the heartbroken look on Celine's face when she'd learned that Mom was gravely ill. "I'll work hard and make enough money to help Mrs. Sterling pay for her treatment, Cill. I want you to be able to marry me without a single worry."

However, now, she walked up to me with a dark look in her eyes.

Her tone was calm yet cruel. "The best way to divert attention is to give them an even bigger scandal to talk about. Cill, if you hadn't made that post, I wouldn't have resorted to this method. You brought this on yourself; you have no one to blame but yourself."

In the end, my thesis was invalidated, and I was expelled.

I collapsed onto the floor, and I was so overwhelmed by despair that I couldn't utter a word.

Just then, my phone began vibrating incessantly.

"You stole your best friend's girlfriend and smeared his name; you have no shame!"

"I can't believe you'd turn around and blame him. People like you should just drop dead!"

I looked up in disbelief.

Marcus stood beside us and shrugged. "We've known each other for over a decade, Cillian. You should know I'm not one to take things lying down."

When we were five years old, a group of kids at kindergarten picked on me. Marcus clutched a rock and chased them away.

When we were 12, the owner of a convenience store accused me of shoplifting, locked me inside, and forced me down on my knees to apologize. Marcus slammed his backpack into the owner's head, grabbed my hand, and made a run for it.

I'd asked him why he believed me, but he'd simply thumped his chest. "You're my best friend! Why would I ever doubt you?"

When we were 18, Marcus gave up sports and studied day and night for half a year to get into the same college as me.

I felt terrible when I saw the dark circles under his eyes, but he said nonchalantly, "You're too much of a pushover, Cillian. What if someone bullies you? I can only rest easy if I'm there to protect you!"

But now, he said, "I've never let anyone walk all over me. You betrayed me, posted about me on the campus forum, and let everyone tear into me, so you have to pay the price. I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine."

Marcus posted on the campus forum, claiming I'd tried to steal his girlfriend. He also released proof that he and Celine had been engaged for some time. It accumulated more than a thousand comments.

Looking at the numb look on my face, Celine seemed to feel a pang of guilt. She was about to part her lips when my phone rang.

Mom's trembling voice came through the line. "Cillian, did you really come between someone else's relationship?"

Cillian's POVI turned around and came face-to-face with Celine, who was staring at me with teary eyes. She rushed over, intending to grasp my wrist. "Do you even know who she is? Stay away from her!" Before she could touch me, a figure stepped between us. Yvonne's brows drew together as she exuded a domineering presence. "Cillian is capable of thinking for himself. You don't get to make his decisions for him." The veins in Celine's forehead bulged. "He's my fiancé! You have no right to interfere in our affairs!" I sighed. To be honest, I'd expected Celine to track me down. Ever since the news broke about her making a massive scene at her wedding and sending Marcus to prison, I knew this day would come. I just didn't expect it to come so soon. When I remained silent, Celine fretted, "I had no idea Marcus was so malicious, Cill… I've already sent him to prison, and I'll never have anything to do with him again! My mom has come around as well; she doesn't care about family backg

  • My Graduation Day, Their Wedding Day   Chapter 9

Cillian's POVMeanwhile, I was in a small town down south where spring reigned year-round. It was far from bustling, with blue-brick walls and green-tiled roofs lining its streets, yet it had a magical charm that put my mind at ease. Most importantly, no one here would point fingers at me. It allowed me to put all those vile people and sordid affairs completely behind me. While I was lost in thought, someone suddenly slid a cup of coffee across the table toward me. I turned around and found Yvonne Winslow smiling at me. Yvonne was two grades above me in high school. When I started tenth grade, I felt self-conscious because I came from a small county town. Yvonne, on the other hand, was an outstanding senior who was about to graduate. At the hundred-day countdown ceremony before the college entrance exams, she stood beneath the national flag and declared, "Don't dwell on temporary gains and losses. The future holds infinite possibilities!" Those simple words had given me th

Third-person POVThe room erupted into chaos. The priest thought his ears were playing tricks on him. He hastily asked again, "I beg your pardon, Ms. Waverly?"Celine's voice was firmer this time. "I don't, because this murderer is completely unworthy of marrying me!" Celine waved her hand under everyone's stunned gaze, and the giant screen behind her began playing a video. The footage showed the exact moment Marcus had caused the death of Belinda."... If I were you, I'd just drop dead!" Marcus' malicious voice reverberated through the hall, reaching the ears of everyone present. People now looked at Marcus with wariness and disgust. Marcus felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. "That's impossible! How did you find out?" Celine sneered as she took in his terror-stricken face. "Did you really think you could get away with it? "It's true that I didn't want to reveal my identity in front of Cillian, but my love for him was real! I'd had state-of-the-art surveillanc

  • My Graduation Day, Their Wedding Day   Chapter 7

Third-person POVIn the days that followed, Celine made preparations for her wedding with Marcus while discreetly tracking down information on Cillian. Marcus seemed to mind the previous posts about him on the campus forum. He insisted on the best of everything for every aspect of the wedding, going all out to make the ceremony as grand and elaborate as possible. Celine's mother, Evelyn Montgomery, secretly sought her out, looking thoroughly displeased. "That kid from the Cross family seriously doesn't know his place. Marrying into our family is a massive step up for him, yet he still wants to make such a huge spectacle out of it?" Evelyn had looked down on Marcus from day one. She had only reluctantly agreed because Celine had put her foot down. After hearing her mother's complaints, Celine wasn't upset in the slightest. If anything, she instructed her assistant to send out another batch of invitations, feeding right into Marcus' vanity. Evelyn slammed the door and left in

  • My Graduation Day, Their Wedding Day   Chapter 6

Third-person POVAt the time, Celine had gone to the stairwell to take a phone call. It was from her family, confirming the wedding arrangements. This was no small matter. After all, a marriage alliance could often bring in a substantial amount of investment and business. Before she left, she feared Cillian might suddenly lose control and attack Marcus, so she left a few bodyguards behind to keep an eye on him. However, not long after she left, Marcus turned around and walked into the hospital room. Belinda had just regained consciousness at the time. Realizing it was a familiar face, she asked anxiously, "Marcus, dear, what on earth is going on with Cillian? Why's everyone online saying he came between someone else's relationship and that he was fired..." Marcus leaned down and whispered something in her ear. Belinda's breathing immediately became ragged. "What did he tell her?"The police officer shook his head. "Our equipment isn't advanced enough to make out what he s

Third-person POVCeline and Marcus had already been the center of attention because of the posts on the campus forum. Now that the officer had spoken so loudly, everyone's attention was drawn to them. Whispers rippled through the crowd. "Premeditated murder? Aren't they rich? Why would they ever resort to that?""Here I thought Cillian was the one who had snapped and done it. After all, he was expelled, and four years of his time went down the drain. Are the cops sure they have the right people?" "Why are only those two here? Where's Cillian?" Celine looked at the police officers in front of her and tried to reason with them. "You must've made a mistake. We just came back from the hospital. We haven't done anything." However, the cops didn't waste time arguing with them. They simply escorted Celine and Marcus into a police cruiser. On the way there, despite her annoyance, Celine stayed relatively calm, maintaining the composure and manners she'd been taught since childhood
