Chapter 3

作者: Ice-cream
I took the contract, and my heart pounded against my chest. It was the custom design proposal I had rushed to finish overnight for a top luxury brand. Yet, the designer’s signature clearly read “Alexander” in bold. The creative assistant was listed as “Stella.”

My name had been removed.

“How dare you—”

“Alex said your design was too conservative, and that it only made the cut because he revised it.” Stella cut me off. “You should be grateful he didn’t just kick you off the team.”

I clenched my fists, and my nails dug deep into my palms. For ten years, I had stayed up late perfecting every design. Every stitch, every seam carried my effort and devotion. And he had erased my existence without hesitation.

“I’m going to find Alexander.” I turned to leave.

“Eve, wait!” Stella ran after me and grabbed my arm. “Alex is in an interview right now. If you barge in like this, you’ll ruin his image.”

I shook her off. “Let go of me!”

At that moment, Stella pretended to slip. The coffee cup in her hand tipped, and scalding liquid splashed all over her.

“Ah! It burns!” she screamed and collapsed to the floor. Then, she writhed as she clutched her chest.

Everyone in the office turned to look at us.

Alexander heard the commotion and rushed out of the conference room. The moment he saw Stella on the floor, his face turned ashen.

“Evelyn, have you lost your mind?!” He shoved me aside and scooped Stella into his arms with frantic care. “Were you trying to burn her? Don’t you know she has sensitive skin?”

I stood frozen. “I didn’t—”

“Alex…” Stella whimpered weakly in his arms. “I only tried to calm Eve down. But then, she accused me of stealing her life...”

Alexander’s gaze grew colder with contempt. He looked at me as if I were a stranger.

“Get out! Leave, now! My studio won’t tolerate despicable women like you!”

Not a single colleague spoke in my defense. They all kept their heads down.

These were the same people who had once been friendly with me when I stayed behind to revise their designs. At that moment, they chose silence.

“Alexander, just hear me out—”

“Hear what?” He let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “That you’re jealous of Stella’s talent? That you can’t stand her earning my recognition? So, you had to hurt her?”

I laughed mirthlessly. “Talent? Her so-called talent was copied straight from my design drafts.”

Stella’s face paled. “That’s a lie!”

“I have evidence. All the original files are on my computer,” I said coldly. “I’ll see you in court.”

Alexander laughed as if he had heard the world’s greatest joke. “Evidence? Evelyn, I bought all your computers. I know every password. What could you possibly use against me?”

I stared at him and suddenly understood. When he broke into my apartment last night, he had not come to reconcile. He had come to destroy evidence.

“Security!” Alexander shouted. “Get her out of here!”

Two large security guards immediately rushed forward and grabbed my arms. I struggled uselessly against their grip.

“Alexander, you’ll regret this!” I screamed.

He turned without looking back. “My only regret is wasting ten years on you.”

The guards dragged me out of the studio and tossed me into the pouring rain as if I were trash. I fell onto the ground with a hard thud and scraped my knee. Blood mixed with the rain as it streamed down my legs.

Just then, my phone rang through the downpour, and I answered with shaky hands.

My father’s steady voice came through. “Sweetheart, the ten-year bet is over. I’m coming to take you home.”

Two weeks later, an interview clip of Alexander went viral online.A reporter asked him, “What’s your biggest regret in life?”Tears streamed down his face as he told the camera, “I regret that time… when she came to me… on the day of the typhoon… and I didn’t… hold her…”I closed the video and felt unmoved. At the company’s annual meeting, I announced Stella’s promotion to head of logistics. She had started as a cleaner and climbed up the ladder on her own merit.“Mrs. Roth, have you seen Alexander’s interview?” she asked while handing me a pen to sign some documents.“I have.”“What are… your thoughts?”I signed the last document. “No thoughts. I’m focusing on preparing for next season’s show.”Stella nodded, and a cold smile flashed across her face. She had once worked herself to the bone for Alexander. She no longer even spared him a glance. On my son’s first birthday, Alexander’s parents came. They knelt at my doorstep, and their faces were wet with tears. “Mrs. Roth, p

When Alexander heard the word “baby,” his last remaining rationality shattered. He suddenly coughed up blood and fell unconscious.Doctors and nurses rushed in to resuscitate him as we exited the hospital ward.Three months later, Alexander was convicted. His reputation was ruined, his fortune was gone, and he was buried under debts he could never repay in his lifetime. After his prison release, he developed severe mental illness. He wandered the streets of Paris daily in tattered clothes. He clung to a piece of charcoal and sketched my face repeatedly on sidewalks and walls. He would constantly murmur, “Eve, I’ve finished the design for your wedding dress. Why won’t you come try it on...?Meanwhile, Zane and I held our wedding at a glass conservatory on the banks of the Seine. When someone informed Alexander about it that morning, he sprinted madly to the venue, only to be stopped by security.Through the glass panes, he saw how radiant I was in the wedding gown that Zane had

One day, Alexander waited outside my apartment all night. At daybreak, he saw me step out with Zane. As Zane helped me to adjust my collar, his touch was intimate and natural.Alexander rushed over and grabbed my hand. His eyes were bloodshot while he said in a low and pleading voice, “Eve, please… give me one more chance.”Zane pulled his hands away and stepped in front of me. “Mr. Elrod, have some self-respect. Evelyn’s my fiancee now.”The word “fiancee” shattered Alexander’s last defenses. His gaze locked onto the diamond ring on my finger. It was not the one that belonged to him.I never looked at him once. Instead, I turned to Zane. “Let’s go. The head designer at the bridal boutique is waiting for us.”... Alexander later staged a car accident and made himself appear “critically injured.”He was wrapped in bandages from head to toe as he lay in a hospital bed. His face was pale, and his eyes glimmered with anticipation. He spread the news using old connections and gambl

It was Stella’s diary. He turned to the first page and saw Stella’s delicate handwriting.[I saw Alexander today. He’s just as exceptional as the rumors say. Evelyn doesn’t deserve a man like him. I have to make him mine.]Alexander’s hands began trembling.[Day 36: I told Alexander that my mother has cancer. As expected, he bought it. This is such a useful lie. My mother’s perfectly healthy. She’s back home and dancing in the plaza.][Day 58: Evelyn had an important client presentation today. I slipped sleeping pills into her coffee. She was drowsy during the meeting, and she got a complaint from the client. Alexander thought she was being unprofessional. Haha.][Day 89: I stole another one of Evelyn’s designs. That woman’s a genius, but she’s so naive. All I need to do is tweak a few lines, and it becomes my work.]The final entry read, [Alexander’s such an idiot. He actually believes that I love him. Once I’ve milked him dry, Evelyn’s position will be mine.]Alexander’s ches

Alexander’s face turned pale, and his knees went weak. His career, his reputation, and everything he had were built on my designs. But the Astor family’s resources had all been taken away.He lunged toward me with frantic desperation. My bodyguards restrained him forcefully, and he screamed hoarsely, “Evelyn! You can’t do this to me! You’re nothing without me!”I picked up my phone and sent him one final message. Attached was a photo of my corner office atop the Parisian haute couture house.[Alexander, thank you. Without your betrayal, I might never have discovered how high I could soar on my own. By the way, your studio appears to be struggling without the “trash” you discarded.]When he read the message, his hands shook with rage. He tried to call me back, but all he heard was a recorded voice. It said that my number was currently busy. The bodyguards and my attorney escorted him out of the hospital. I stood at the window and watched him being pushed into a cab. Our ten-year re

  • My Husband Regrets Marrying His Assistant   Chapter 5

I stared at his self-righteous expression and suddenly laughed at myself for being blind for ten years. I had fallen in love with such a heartless man.I pulled out my IV needle, and blood trickled down the back of my hand. Alexander took a step back as if he was afraid the blood might stain his bespoke suit.Right then, I made a phone call in front of him.“Mr. Wayne, proceed as planned.”Before Alexander could react, the door to the ward swung open. A team of elite attorneys in black suits filed in. The lead attorney then handed him a restraining order and a lawsuit.“What’s this?” Alexander took the papers, and his face turned pale.“Intellectual property infringement, commercial fraud, and defamation,” I stated calmly. “The amount of compensation should be enough to bankrupt you.”His hands trembled. “You’re insane! Where did you get the money to hire this many attorneys?”I only gazed out the window in silence.Alexander followed my gaze to find the general manager of his
